In Singapore, National service bonded races as well. Chinese, Malays and Indians were mixed together from basic training onwards...Singapore’s multiracial society was strengthened by the bonds of military service

Love the whole disparate background friendship of the main characters, I'm more from Smifffs world but have a few posh friends, friendship really does over-ride the class divide

Disparate? Over-ride? Class divide? You sure you're from smifff's world?

Not everyone from Smifff's world is a Smifff. Hence Grammar school s admitting them. Perhaps he/she doesn't give two 'f's about stereotyping? (there another posh word for you).

That was what National Service did (among other things) - it threw together people of all backgrounds from all around the country.

Corporal Marsh- what a character. The series would be flat without him.

splitpitch the NCO is always the funny man. BSM Williams in It Ain’t Half Hot Mum was my personal favorite

I can remember watching this with my dad & grandparents when I was a 13 yr old kid in the mid-'70s. It was such a hit that quite a few of my schoolmates joined the RAF Cadets in Chester, unfortunately, I wasn't able to join as I lived out in the sticks and had no transport. I was well miffed about that! Watching it again today as a 60yr old, I still find it really funny. It's a shame that this couldn't be shown again on TV, but I think that the Politically Correct snowflakes would kick up a stink about the simplest innocent things in the show. It's such a shame really that we all have to miss out.

That was a nice story up until the "snowflakes" bit. You're able to watch it now so why are you complaining about people who might not like it? They're having a grand time watching something else.

Marsh is so different to the Sergeant Major in ‘It Ain’t Half Hot Mum,’ yet both take the lead in their respective series’.
