If purchasing isn't owning, piracy isn't stealing.
So true
absolutely
Except piracy never was stealing. It's immoral to take content without paying for, but piracy isn't the same as theft. The original is still there.
Also the "loss of revenue" estimations are bullshit. Just because something was pirated N times doesn't mean all those people would have bought it.
licensing is not owning, piracy isnt stealing
Doesn't make it ethical
We both know what happens when profit quotas are missed, the employees most vulnerable get fired
Your not hurting the execs making the decisions, your hurting the engineers fighting against them
The better option is to not partake in the media at all, support their competitors
After all, these companies would rather you steal from them then buy from their competitors, so buy from their competitors
If a company sells you something that is yours "forever" and then they make it so that you don't have it, you should be able to sue for theft
You aren't? what's even the point of those promises then?
Well technically the company doesn't exist anymore, so who are you gonna sue? At least that's probably what Sony would argue if anyone would ever get them in front of a judge. :(
@@XHackManiacX technically sony, because funimation has been under sony management for a while so any legal dumbfullery for funimation should fall on sony if funimation disappears
@@XHackManiacX they do exist, sony bought them, sony merged them with crunchy roll and effectively removed the purchase liscenxe. Who you think can be sued there? Not rocket science
This is pretty much illegal in the EU. Like, they are playing a very dangerous game here.
just being realistic, a platform should not be required to make content available indefinitely, there are ongoing costs involved in this. however, it should be legally mandated that before they remove access to content someone has purchased (be it movies, music, games, anything) the user must be notified, and given the option to download the content in full in a format that is offline useable. the user should be given a reasonable time frame to complete this download.
If they didn’t want to make it available indefinitely, they shouldn’t have sold it saying it was a permanent purchase. The blame rests squarely on their shoulders.
I think when companies say we all have unlimited access forever/lifetime. I think lifetime/forever means until a bigger company comes along and eats them up. They technically aren’t lying because they don’t exist anymore which means their lifetime ended so they can’t be a forever. Right?
Yep.
Either the company that gobbles them up, or the parent company that shuts them down, should have to honor the agreements. Or at least compensate those impacted.
But I guess that’s too difficult for Sony, seeing what they did with that licensing debacle a couple months ago. Or the fact they can hardly remember if you bought a game or got it through PS Plus.
Just Pirate it
Games movies music PDFs etc
I would honestly be surprised if they don't explicitly state that somewhere. An old Bionicle fan site, BZPower, offered a lifetime premium account for some amount of money, and I remember it saying in no uncertain terms that it referred to the lifetime of the site, not the user.
Now, there's kinda a world of difference between a premium account on a forum and a digital good, so I'm not saying Sony is anywhere close to being in the right here, just that they likely have their butts sufficiently covered legally.
The fact that robocall telemarketing is legal at all, tells you all you need to know about the quality of that rarely enforced 90s legislation.
It's illegal basically anywhere except the us lol
Even when it is explicitly illegal, and successfully prosecuted, the consequences aren't even appropriate. See: Jacob Wohl & Jack Burkman's voter suppression scheme using robocalls. They got 500 hours of community service.
The US Government could always use an extra Billion in "justified fines" lol 👍
it's always technically been illegal, but enforcement was never a priority. This decision just reiterated that "yes, the law that's been on the books for so long has already stated this is illegal. Guess we should do something about it. But we won't". Spoofing is one thing that really needs to be fixed though, scammers wouldn't survive if they had to use their own real phone number instead of a new one every call so blocking does nothing.
Americans are just intended to be consumers so that companies can exploit every single one.
This is why pirating is still the best. Don't have to worry about not being able to access your stuff forever.
Bro I've just rewatched a couple of American Pie movies, fresh from the torrentz. Can't beat free entertainment. Even if I had millions I'd still pirate EVERYTHING!!!

Most of the time it's a misconception what you are buying. Most of the time you are buying access and not ownership.
As another example scenario in which one wouldn't feel as bad about loosing the access would be funnymation going bankrupt. In that case funnymation would also have to close their site and sell their servers so one would loose access as well.
Piracy is stealing, simple as. Buying isn't a guarantee of ownership of the product, it all depends on the contract you have signed, READ THE F*CKING TERMS OF SERVICE.

Yeah, Crunchyroll and Funimation merged a while ago, and I may be a bit bitter about it. The moment the merger was finalized I stopped being able to access my Funimation app/account, and the ad supported tier of Crunchyroll suddenly lost access to a significant number of shows. Also, instead of getting to see new episodes a week after the paid subscribers like you used to, now you only get that for the first three episodes of a season, then even those episodes get locked behind a paywall. Nothing like merging the two biggest companies in a market to really bring out the old anti-consumer behavior. I would've considered upgrading to the paid subscription if the Crunchyroll app wasn't so horrible and prone to crashing and freezing. It also doesn't help that I have a visual disability and often have to rewind a few seconds to catch all of the subtitles, but everytime you rewind in the Crunchyroll app they play another ad, which is where most of their crashes occur. The Funimation app was so much better it's almost laughable, and of course that's the one that gets the axe in the merger. Did I mention I was a bit bitter about it?🤨😡
Well, we on the other side of the planet got the first taste of this when Animelab got shut down, not that anyone cared.
Reducing the amount of politics you're unwillingly subjected to online is absolutely beneficial to mental health. The number one reason I got CZcams Premium in the first place was because if I saw one more fear mongering, mud slinging, infantile political ad I was going to absolutely lose it. Admittedly I have an anger problem, but to quote my uncle after he stopped watching the news "the only thing that's changed is my blood pressure".
The fact that even with CZcams Premium they *still* will force political BS onto my front page from time to time is inexcusable if you ask me. I can barely handle the amount of politics I'm subjected to while following tech news.
Oh tell me about it. The moment Twitter got purchased by Elon I started getting promoted content for white supremacists and racists talking about “retaking America”. Deleted my Twitter account and hey guess what, my life has only gotten more positive.
It's not just political content, it's content designed to illicit a preformed opinion about said content. That is often, at least, disorienting. I don't need to be suggested what to think while trying to relax watching tech news or something worth paying attention to.
The Lenovo laptop section had me cracking up.

5:40 "only 1.07%", so every 1 out of 100 has a chance of damaging your unit or even starting a fire? that's a really generous use of the word "only".😆
it doesn't have a chance of starting a fire, unless you are keeping something extremely flammable next to it. The things typically found in a PC are flame retardant.
Over time, that figure probably gets closer to 100% the longer you own the card.
That's corporatese for you. 1% seems like very little, 1 in 100 sounds like a lot. Same thing.

So I'm guessing that laptop is at most a concept or an art piece as I don't see why anyone would want that otherwise.
Although transparent displays are a mainstay of scifi, I have also pondered who the hell would actually want to use a screen with literally no privacy
It would be a nice gadget to have.
I would use it. It looks cool. That's enough of a reason to want one.

I don't know how to feel about the fact that those smart glasses' battery pack looks like a cartoon Groucho Marx nose.
I thought the same thing. The glasses look so stupid as well.
Was the nose just them being self aware?
But why though? They're never going to sell anything if they look like a joke.

It's like the complete opposite of a ThinkPad: it's brittle af and has the worst keyboard imaginable.
Even after the Gemini update, most people I know avoided Bard like the flu. It had such a bad reputation. Changing name to Gemini was a good decision. Though I'd say the paid category should have been called Gemini Ultra.
It's still bad at following instructions. I got the free trial.
@@blisphul8084 Seriously! That's some struggle Google's going through. Open AI really caught them with their pants down. And since Microsoft Copilot is using OpenAI GPT 4, it's better while being free. LOL.

Is something truly illegal if it is never enforced? It would be nice if someone actually enforced all of these anti-robo calling laws.
Mr Power 😂 - there was so many good liners today. Very much enjoyed the episode.

Prices for Crunchyroll memberships aren't actually increasing for the majority of people. With the shutdown of Funimation, subscriptions are being converted into their respective Crunchyroll variations. The price is only increasing for those who were grandfathered when Funimation increased their rates (sometime in 2019 iirc). If you had a Crunchyroll membership prior to this, there is no difference. It would be nice if the prices were maintained, but it's not quite as bad as some news sites make it out to be, especially since this has been a known thing since the move from Funimation to Crunchyroll was announced 2 years ago.
It's not tech news until I hear them here

I actually agree that Bard is a bit more artsy. I asked it to make Guitar tabs and Ukulele tabs, and Bard gets way more into it than Copilot
They should legislate that any digital purchases have all their "buy" and "purchase" options changed to "License" if companies are going to mislead consumers into thinking they own something that they don't.
