Following the trail of Goldminers from the Vinyards of Cromwell and Bannockburn along the turquoise waters of the Kawarau and Clutha Rivers is a cycling trail that clings to canyon walls, climbs over hills with breathtaking views and leaps over jaw dropping suspension bridges.
    Introduction 0:00
    Bannockburn - Clutha River 1:06
We start our Lake Dunstan cycle trip from the Bannockburn Bridge, taking in spectacular reflections over the Kawarau River. The region is best known for its historic gold mining relics such as the Sluicings and its wine production and the nearby Cromwell Heritage Precinct could be viewed. The Autumn colours were spectacular for this part of the journey!
    Platforms and Bridges 6:34
We moved toward the section the Lake Dunstan Trail is most well known for, it’s series of suspended boardwalks and bridges, along with a floating Burger Bar and Cafe inside the Cromwell Gorge. This section was the most intense as we had to climb 2 large hills ⛰ but the Burgers were delicious. Climbing up the Muir Ladder to the highest point of the trip we make our way to the 85.5m Hugo Suspension bridge!
    Homestretch to Clyde 11:20
We made our way downhill toward the Clyde Dam, a massive project that was constructed between 1977 & 1992 providing electricity to the Region. Finishing back up in the town of Clyde, we can see why the Lake Dunstan Trail is New Zealand’s newest most popular cycling trail.

That is some bike ride. A liitle dangerous in areas with unguarded drops.
