  • I check out the 4-door 2018 Audi S5 Sportback with S sport package, which is a hybrid combination of the S4 sedan and S5 coupe. This prestige trim is a fully-loaded head-turner. Its twin-scroll turbo charged V6 produces more power than the supercharged V6 in the A7. Naturally, this S5 includes quattro awd. This S5 is a sportier version of the 2018 A5 Sportback • 2018 Audi A5 Sportback... .

    Great review and agree, the sportback is one nice looking car. I like to drive one and compare it to my AMG C43, not as nice exterior styling and no virtual cockpit, but has a little more power than the S5. I hate the auto-start/stop and the C43 also defaults to on for every mode except sport +.

    I loved this quick video man. Thanks so much for it. This color, both interior and exterior, model and spec (Prestige) is EXACTLY the one I’m after. I won’t be in the market until early 2022 but I would really like to know how much would this lose in depreciation when it’s 3 to 4 years old? I’m definitely adding this video to my playlist that I have created to keep me motivated to buy this car. I learned a few things from watching it. Like how the Prestige trim gets you options that are otherwise “hidden”. So I thank you very much.

      These have dropped in value so hard, you'll lose $20k in the first week you drive it off the lot. You don't need to wait to 2022 to get one for a good price. Get an audi cpo used one just before New Year's day and you will gave a decent deal.

    so whats the deal with vehicle break in? are dealerships exempt from it? i remember test driving the s3 and beating the hell out of it and the salesman is like 'go faster!'. that was fun but when we got back i bought a different s3. part of me feels like modern cars are pretty much ready to go but another part of me, which read the manual, feels like you should take it easy on a brand new car. especially one with 55 miles on it.

    In regards to the Infiniti Q50 Red Sport 400 and the Audi S5 which is more fun to drive?

    • @RoadandTract
      @RoadandTract  Před 7 lety

      +Monrowe Toussaint The twin turbo Infiniti is faster and can be had in rear wheel drive. Depreciation may be about the same. The S5 has more tech. I guess it comes down to my mantra: There are two types of buyers. Those who buy the car, and those who buy the deal. The Q50 will cost less that the S5.

    I have a 2014 S3, do you think the back seats of the S5 sportback have more space for two adults 5.10, 6 feet tall?

    • @RoadandTract
      @RoadandTract  Před 7 lety

      We didn't get the S3 in the US until 2015. If you have the 8v A3/S3 sedan, I can tell you there might not be as much headroom in the sportback compared to my 2015 A3. The back seat may be wider in the sportback, but the S5 seats might occupy legroom from the rear seat. I don't use the back seats (when testing). Thanks for watching.

    • @RoadandTract
      @RoadandTract  Před 7 lety

      +The Wisdom of the FlashGordon Electronic steering is very prone to tire pressure response. How do you know the S4 wasn't inflated to the max? Audi publishes two different psi suggestions. The placard on the door silk is Max pressure. If the S4 you drove was set to that, the steering would feel artificial. Some dealers set to Max psi to avoid flat spots. I didn't drive the S4 yet.

    • @t6553gw
      @t6553gw Před 7 lety

      That is good info! so this Sportback steering was good?

    • @RoadandTract
      @RoadandTract  Před 7 lety

      It dialed in just fine on my drive. I was in dynamic mode most of the time. It certainly didn't understeer. But I haven't driven the S4 yet so I cannot give you a comparison. It would seem logical that there's slightly more weight on the S5 SB rear end due to the hatch design. That might help with the typical nose-heavy, engine forward Audi setup.

    • @RoadandTract
      @RoadandTract  Před 7 lety

      Fun? Q50 Red Sport 400. Practical? Q5 Sportback. I'd lean toward the Q5 Sportback if I was needing something like an SUV but not an SUV. The Q50 is much less expensive, can be had in RWD or AWD, and has a different vibe. The Audi interior is better, but I actually like the dual screen setup on the Q50. I don't like the foot pedal parking brake and the old style door locks on the Q50. I dislike the air vent in the passenger side of the dash on the Q5. The Q5 Sportback is going to be more capable for daily use and have the better interior. But for performance, the Q50 is going to be $10k less and it will be fun as long as you avoid direct adaptive steering. A base Q50 Red Sport 400 with navigation would be all I need, whereas a Q5 Sportback Prestige is the other way - but you're talking about spending $15k more than the Q50.

    • @RoadandTract
      @RoadandTract  Před 7 lety

      You won't see any at dealerships. Audi is probably only allocating 30-90 A5 and S5 sportbacks to each dealer through the end of this year, and only 6-10 out of that may be the S5. At that rate, MSRP should be about as good as it gets... and your worst case scenario.

      ???? Don't get ripped off !!
      My local dealer initally offered $1K off list and whe I asked to speak to the owner, it was bumped up to $1,500. When I priced around within a 50-75 mile radius, I rec'd offers of $1,500 to $3,500, in writing and without even visiting dealers! I went back to my local (small volume dealer) and presented my case and they were willing to match the $3,500 even on an ordered car! I was told that the local owners got together and mutually agreed to only discount the vehicle by $1,000. I don't know if that is price fixing! I'm going to order the coupe, in a very base version, only option, the paint! I would suggest asking for some on-line prices. I also live in NYC area, so there are many dealers. Maybe some didn't get the memo?

      I've just ordered one. Super-excited about it arriving, but almost every test video I see, they're getting less than 15mpg. I'm in the UK, and fuel is roughly double the price of the US. arrgggggghhh

    The sound is so thin and high, doesn't really suit a middle class car. Sounds more like a 4 cylinder. The S5 has exactly the same 0 to 60 numbers as the S3, and that's why I barely see any sense in this car in terms of driving performance and experience. I've driven the S3, it's not a big difference, really.

      +Herr Niemand That's why I own an A3.

      Yeah, i'd rather get an A5 3.0 TDI 272 HP or a RS3 - those make much more sense. I currently own the old A5 Sportback 3.0 TDI 245 HP - awesome engine.

      Herr, the S3 is 0-60 in 4.5 and the S5 sportback is 4.7. Very similar but not exactly the same. Actually, the S3, S4, S5. S6 and S7 are all around the mid 4 second mark with the S3 being the fastest 0-60 but the larger cars have more mid range. Anyway, the reason anyone would buy the S5 is because you get the S performance in a family car. I have 3 kids so I need 5 seats, which the new S5 has, and I need a large luggage space, which the S3 doesn't have. There are many factors why these cars exist and each have their own market

      +New Car Spin lol I'm wrong? @ 11:06 at the lower portion of the gauge cluster screen to the right it shows 54.9mi, not to be confused with the range left in the tank which was at the top left of the screen at the time. It changed to 55.0 at 11:08 haha, was it the turbo "not spooling up" or was the engine physically strained do to fragmented rings... You learn something new everyday.

      This is why you pay the deposit and order the car you want, so you don't get one of these. It's like buying something that's in "open box" condition. 😂✌🏽️

    I drove a 2018 S5 and although it is almost perfect for me (interior, tech, coupé), it just isn't as engaging to drive as other brands. I bought a Jaguar XE-S instead :) The exhaust note of a supercharged engine sounds much better as well. Not sure if I want to go back to turbos!
