One station P-123 in Russia can be sold by 100$ if it is works. So, you can make some money or try to listen russian's army in 20-51,5 MHz diapasone if you will deploy the 20 meters match device :D
If I correctly understand, it is not a BTR-60 at all, it is P-145 - smth like Mobile Command Point or MHQ , on russian it called КШМ - Командно-штабная машина ( command-headquarter's car ). It is BTR-60 with radiostations 2х Р-123 ( 0:27 ) 1x P-111 ( 1:14 ) and as I guess, it must be 1x P-130 ( short wave diapasone ) station. I have honor to deal with that car in army, it is amazing. So, as radioman I am interesting - did this radio devices works? Or it breake?
looks like a fixer upper! and on the note about engine position, there was a version with a mid engine allowing rear dismount, but I think that was a tracked vehicle plus these were as far as I know, troop transport, not apcs or ifvs
You're correct on that these were designed to get infantry where they needed to be fast with more protection then a truck would offer, the newer BTR-80 is much better thought out although the troops still have to dismount through the side doors they are better designed to offer forward protection when opened. Most militaries operating Russian stuff tend to opt for the BMP series as a true APC/IFV due to the engine in the front and the troop compartment being in the rear.
