- 1984/1986 (Here is another mid-1980's single by Shirley Bassey titled, 'To All The Men I've Loved Before'. This song was originally written as 'To All The Girls I've Loved Before, and it was a hit for Julio Iglesias and Willie Nelson.
This song was recorded before digital CD format came into existence, and because Towerbell Records went out of business, this song along with all Shirley's 1980's Towerbell recordings are only available via second hand outlets in vinyl format. It took many attempts to move this track from my record player to a MP3 file trying to obtain the best sound possible, and I think it plays well. I kept trying to clean the record to remove the embedded dust, then it would only play the left side....then it would only play the right side. Finally....success! I can't believe that was how we used to listen to music!

"To All the Girls I've Loved Before" is a song originally sung by Albert Hammond, but more famous for a 1984 cover by singers Julio Iglesias and Willie Nelson, which appeared on Iglesias's album 1100 Bel Air Place. A breakthrough for Iglesias in the English language market, the song peaked at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on the RPM Top Singles. "To All the Girls I've Loved Before" went to number one on the country chart, and was one of two entries on the country chart for Julio Iglesias and Willie Nelson as duo (the second was "Spanish Eyes", which peaked at #8 in late 1988).
It was Iglesias' biggest hit in the United States and Canada, and Nelson's biggest European hit. The record also appeared on Australian, New Zealand and South African charts. The song has become Iglesias's signature English-language tune, prominently performed at his concerts since the single's release. Thanks to this song, 1100 Bel Air Place became Iglesias' world-wide best selling album. In 1984, Nelson and Iglesias were also named "Duo of the year" by the Country Music Association, and "To All the Girls I've Loved Before" was named single of the year by the Academy of Country Music.

I never knew what love really was until....he walked in to my life one summer's evening in 1984 and my heart surged the first time I looked at him. I loved him with such intensity from that day. He was and still is gorgeous, even at 72. He had dark, wild thick hair, curls cascading around his shoulders, perfect features, Cupid bow lips, deep beautiful voice, hunky, sexy and sophisticated. I was in heaven! Now his hair is white with age, looks very distinguished and he is just as beautiful to me as ever he was, in every way. Many women wanted him but it was me he chose.

I never thought a woman could sing this song but she did it beautifully with class and dignity. I wish I could sing and entertain like she does. This song has so much meaning and is so relevant to me. It would be exactly what I would want to say if I were able to do so.

I personally think the words suit a female singer more than a male, but I do realize the version by Iglesias and Nelson was a big hit on several continents. I'm just happy that I was able to make a decent MP3 from my record player.

Loose: Just to be clear, Shirley did not have a personal relationship with all the men in this video. Most of them, however were/are good friends. Shirley has a great personality and because she is a global ICON she has been able to have many friendships with celebrities and other individuals from around the world.

this is one of the `lost` TOWERBELL recordings. Strange that the `I AM WHAT I AM ` album was reissued under various titles so many times. This time also included the brilliant `IF YOU DON`T UNDERSTAND` not on the original LP but included in the CD so not as well known as it should have been. Shirley included it `live` and I instantly loved it but the orchestral backing `live` was better and was captured in the 1987 `Bassey in Berlin` clips on you tube with the wonderful conducting of Peter Tomasso (just watch how he follows her). `SOMETIMES` (theme from CHAMPIONS) a classic ballad. The single is fine but see Shirley in LIVE FROM dressed in the classic Darnell black velvet gown with the embossed orchid take it to a new height. Also from this company is `THERES NO PLACE LIKE LONDON`

I love this version by Shirley Bassey. I came out in the nineties as being gay, I remember saying to my ex wife that I wanted this version played at my funeral when I pop my clogs. I said it as a joke but she said over my dead body......I said no it would be over my dead body, she eventually saw the joke that it was meant to be.
