  • In this episode of my series “New Forest Walks”, I take a 4 mile circular walk from Beaulieu Road Station which is located 3.5 miles South East of Lyndhurst & 3.5 miles North West of Beaulieu. Once again I am accompanied by my Whippet, Logan.
I parked my car, for free, at the Forestry England car Park at Beaulieu Road and started my walk with a look at the Beaulieu Road Pony Sales Yard as well as the Beaulieu Road Railway Station (the least used railway station in Hampshire!).
Crossing the railway line (over the road bridge), I headed South towards Shatter Ford. I had originally intended to try and walk along the entire length of the Bishop's Dyke / Ditch- the remnants of a 13thC Deer park / Enclosure - however too many sections of it were broken by areas of bog.
I therefore continued on to Woodfidley Passage and then headed Eastwards, crossing the railway line again at Penny Moor.
Although I had decided not to walk along the Bishop's Dyke, I was easily able to identify it on the Southern & Eastern sections (the banking encloses around 450 to 500 acres).
My final leg of the walk took me Northwards to Stephill Bottom & then back to Beaulieu Road Station.
My final destination was the Drift Inn where I took light refreshments.
