    I appreciate your smart explanation about the difference between undertone and depth of color. For example, when people hear about Olive skin tone, they assume it’s just a medium level skin tone but there are people with lighter skin that have olive undertone and people on the deep spectrum that also have a olive undertone. It’s the same with the color cosmetics. Just because it’s cool doesn’t mean it’s just for light people unless the depth of color is light. In a way depth of tone AND undertone should match if you want to look more seamless. Looking forward to what you have to say on the sigma palette too if you decide to try it.

    Hi Maaike, I very much appreciate every video you make and the way you run your channel. I'm not into eyeshadow palettes anymore (keeping it minimal and beigey) so I sometimes skip the videos in which you talk about palettes but I still love hearing your views, even on things I don't care about at the moment. There are things I don't agree with you about but, honestly, there's waaaay more things about which I do agree with you so I like that very much:) I much more prefer hearing about new makeup releases once in a month rather than weekly because it's a bit too much to be talking about it weekly. Having said that, let me just say that the thing about Britney Spears perfumes you mentioned was my exact thought when I saw those Charlotte Tilbury ones!! I even had two of Britney's, blue and pink one. But I seem to be one of the few people who's actually not surprised about the way CT's perfumes look like?? I don't know, but I would be surprised to see her come up with some really elegant, polished bottles lol.
    I'm also all about blushes and, no, I don't need any more of it, but I might still pick some up (powder). They can last so it's not money wasted.
    It's true there doesn't seem to be that many exciting new releases... Every brand is doing the same things at the moment and I feel like people quickly get over these "it" products as it gets overwhelming. Could be wrong, just my opinion!
    Have a great Sunday! x

    You’re honest with your opinions and as you know, I don’t always agree, but I feel safe enough to be honest with you as you are honest with us and I appreciate that. it’s your channel so you can do whatever you want. just kills me when people tell creators not to do things I will make suggestions on brands I like. but that’s as far as I take it I’ve been on a no buy for 2024 due to a large financial undertaking with my mothers passing the first couple of months were ruff not buying the new pallets But now I think I can pretty much color dupe most anything with my too large or a collection. maybe not all the hollow chromes id come close especially with my singles & pallets.

    I find the new Melt palette quite interesting, as a purple lover. I also really like Lethal cosmetics. What I love about Lethal is that you can buy individual singles. That is why I still have nothing from Oden’s eye, as they only sell bundles, and none of the color stories are perfect for me.

  • @exomake_mehorololo
    @exomake_mehorololo Před 29 dny +3

    I see why people are confused about the Sigma🤷 There are clear definitions not "opinions" to argue about what a cool tone is and what is neutral or warm. What looks cool or warm on everyone is a different matter and there's a huge spectrum. It's impossible to create a palette that works like that for everyone. Would be an idea perhaps if companies in general just were more informative and advised on whom a specific palette is for and maybe even release some looks around that. To be more helpful to people and create positive publicity instead.
    Korean companies do release make up specific to specific colour seasons and market it as such, its why they largely have multiple options for palettes, blushes and lip products in the same collection for the different undertones.

    • @FloatinginDreams
      @FloatinginDreams  Před 29 dny

      Absolutely. A cool tone is a cool tone eventually but what looks cool toned against other tones (skin tone, hair color) etc. is a completely different matter.

    I just got the new GlossGods palette and actually most of the shimmers are quite gold and bronze heavy. The promo images are very heavily edited compared to how the palette looks in real life. I did a quick swatch short/reels and my immediate thought was that this reminded me quite a lot of the ND Bronze palette where you had a lot of shimmers that basically looked the same once you got them on your skin.

    I am amazed how similar our taste is. I also thought the BBB palette is so pretty, but that's exactly the color story I have from so many companies - greens with red/pinks. I don't need it, but it is pretty for sure.
    Same for the Lethal one, and like you, usually their pre-made color story are not my taste, but this one is lovely. I am waiting to see what their Avatar collab will look like. Depending on that, I might pick this one up.
    I also want the Adept and Amy palette, but I don't think I'll wear the pinks much, as they usually make me look sick.

    I love seeing your videos. You keep true to you. I really appreciate that you give your opinion on how products work for you, liking it or not. We all have and had products we like and didn't.
    I, for one, watch you for being honest. I will tell you, I've been trying some newer products to only end up doing back to those that I've used in the past. I think the products come out in faster production now and they lack staying ability for me. I've heard the Pat McGrath blush tubes feel very thin and feel cheap...not good when it's a Pat McGrath product...( just thought I'd throw that in there cause she has an expensive line.) You keep on doing what you do. It's very appreciated here.

    The Amy Loves Adept palette just got to me yesterday. I had to use it as soon as I saw it. I've only done two looks with it so far, but both mocha and 1997 worked as transition shades for me. @lorainemcgillivray77 Před 29 dny +2

    Hi Maaike unfortunately none of these are probably going to be something I buy, but that’s not unusual 😂.
    Deep skin can have a very cool undertone and making makeup for deep skin is a wonderful thing. We see cool toned blushes available in deep berry shades for a reason after all. Being pale isn’t the only cool undertone in the spectrum and I would never suggest it was (that’s very foolish and disrespectful to people of all depths of colour), but peach is never a cool toned shade in colour theory. Peach is orange mixed with white. Coral can be cooled to a watermelon shade with more pink added and then work on cooler toned skin of all depths. Grey isn’t a colour- it’s a shade and indeed doesn’t work on everyone, but I personally really like grey😂. Sigma is a brand who cater to those with more medium to deep skin who like a very glam look and that’s great, but it’s not for me and I’m totally fine with that. Calling a palette cool neutrals is probably the reason why some people may have an issue with the warmth included in it. Those who have a truly cool undertone of whatever depth of colour are not going to love warm shades. As you say you have a lot of warmth in your own colouring allowing you to wear and look good in warmer shades, but not everyone has that ( whether pale or medium or deep skin tones). I think describing it as a neutral palette is better and missing out the “cool” in the title would have been more accurate perhaps.
    Best wishes x

    • @FloatinginDreams
      @FloatinginDreams  Před 29 dny

      Peach can be cool toned too. It can lean more pink as in order to get orange you need to mix yellow and red. Add more red and the orange will pull more red, making it more pink toned which you then add white too and you get peach. It's why pinky peach is a thing. So also peaches can be more cool toned.

    • @fourducksoriginal
      @fourducksoriginal Před 29 dny +1

      @@FloatinginDreamshi, yes, but the peachy leaning shades in Sigma's Cool Neutrals palette (and indeed the 40% to 60% of the palette on the left side) appear, on multiple people's screens, easily classified as warm undertoned versions of those colors. And Lorraine, the poster above, is correct that objective categories of warm and cool exist in nature, based on difference across the light spectrum.
      She also hinted at another point, which is undertone v. Contrast.
      I believe that in the video, you conflated undertone with contrast. It's true that many people with the darkest cool skin tones can carry off warm undertoned colors , but that is not per se because their skin is dark; it is because those people happen to have high contrast skin seasons. I am both cool and very light skinned. I am also ultra high contrast (Bright Winter to some people's way of thinking) and I look well in hot tomato, neon orange, hot lime, flourescent yellow, as long there's some black, a strong geometric pattern, or other form of high contrast alongside.
      Meanwhile, a few of my family members with cool, medium brown skin don't look well in those colors because they happen to be low contrast in their overall appearance. It's not the undertone alone, and it not the lightness or darkness of the skin alone, but ultimately the degree of contrast relative to their own that is too off.
      People who are highly attuned to differences in undertone v. chroma etc etc will always give the thumbs down to companies' choices to name palettes contrary to what's inside them. We of all people are more than well aware that grey and pink are not the only shades that can have cool undertones (they can also have warm undertones, and because those shades are often low contrast, the combination, resulting in a soft yellow-grey or pastel yellow-pink, is deadly on my person! )
      I appreciated your video and hearing your opinions, as always. Hopefully you appreciate hearing our dissenting opinions, too, and we meet again in the next video!

      @@fourducksoriginal thanks 😊. I’m someone who probably didn’t explain anywhere near as well as that. For me true peach is different to coral or watermelon (both with more red base’s than a true peach). I love art and colour and colour has so many nuances for me. I probably can’t convey that in a video comment very well, but thank you for adding another dimension to it. Xx

      @FloatinginDreams I know what you mean, but I'm a panner and I know looking at it that it would take me well over a year of constant use to finish it, so I think that's good value when you compare it to, say, buying something from makeup rev and just using a couple of times? If that makes sense.

    Agreed with all your thoughts on these. Kylie and Serena Williams totally uninspiring and I’m so over so called celebrity releases. Same with Bobbie Brown via Jones Road or the old brand. Had a good laugh on the CT fragrance release, the names alone are off putting. I just bought the Cosmic Brushes Wonderland palette and am quite impressed. If the Dior Silver Essentials is rereleased, I’ll jump on it but the Smoky one they came out with is too dark for me.
