Waldo Mendoza (the painter in the video) is highly skilled and a great resource should you have a question concerning the Poly-Fiber System. I will say, however, that I was surprised to see him spray Aerothane without using a clean air supply. Folks, no matter how good the spray booth, where the recommended PPE--especially when applying Aerothane or Ranthane. Your life depends on it!

And could you do a video on shooting poly tone in the future please?

After getting 95%of the way through the poly fiber system I want to give my 2 cents to anyone considering it, DONT USE IT! Theres so many downsides to this system and Im so frustrated and I dont usually cuss but it had me cussing today. Im exhausted from working 16 hr days on end on my airplane and I will start from the beginning problems or complaints. First of all my airplane is only fabric on the fuselage and has metal wings. A Maule. Theres like 16 gallons plus of crap you gotta buy which Im damn confident you dont need as much as their book says. It says I need like 6 or 6.5 gallons of poly brush and in the instructions it says to go over it with a brush for the first coat and then two more coats.. well that uses up about a gallon and a half of the crap. Later in the instructions in the poly spray section it says to do 3 cross coats of the poly spray which is 6 coats really but it doesn't clarify that in the poly brush section which is before the poly spray.. (kinda need to know that!) But even doing 3 more coats doesn't use even close to 6 gallons of the crap. I called a guy that the place I bought the stuff from told me to call that uses it and he said it all needs to go on there.. well you damn sure couldnt see the fabric weave after 6 gallons! So THEN when you get to the poly spray (silver UV protectant) it says to stop with the UV protectant when you cant see a light shining through it. So I did that plus two more coats for good measure and I STILL had 3 gallons of poly spray left!! 🤨 It references that Leroy the character they like to use as a dumb old guy to make fun of says to put it all on.. So why the hell do they sell it all to you!? And then only sell you the required amount of reducer so you dont have enough to mix your paint when you clean you gun out or use it to fix all the damn runs you get with the color coat! Thats one problem Im dealing with now. (Gotta drive an hr to go get more now, AGAIN!)
Ive used all kinds of paints in my life, i started painting cars in the year 2000 and Ive NEVER had a paint run so bad! I think its worse than the Van sickle brand you can buy for painting farm tractors. It HORRIBLE! Im so exhausted. It says to quit and wait 4 days to sand them off if you get runs.. well. YOU WILL GET RUNS! So you know what that means.. I moved my fuselage out of the paint booth to make room to do my wings.. got runs on the wings now!! So while Im sanding on the fuselage Ive got wings in the paint booth to sand. SO I started painting ailerons and flaps and wingtips.. I about screamed like a mad insane person when I went back after the third coat to evaluate and only two things didn't have a run.. It doesn't matter how damn light you spray it or how long you wait between coats.. itll run in the most random places.. so now Im basically starting all the frick over with the painting process.. I hope the 600 dollar blue I had them mix doesn't run too but itll be months at this damn rate before I can even think about spraying my colors for stripes.. Not to mention you gotta do all this wearing a fresh air mask because theres isocyanide in the damn shit that wants to kill you.. You still smell the crap when you leave the paint booth and pull it off with the nice red indentation oval red ring around your face from the mask.. I almost stared throwing stuff tonight. Id like to give the guy a piece of my mind that talked me in to this system because I was once set on the Stewart System.. oh damn how I wish I could go back.. I hope I change someone's mind here.. save yourself some huge headaches and use something else.. Its the biggest pain in my ass Ive ever done and Ive tackled some big projects.. restoration of trucks, tractors, cars. You name it.. this tops them all. It could be slightly better if the instructions jived with the amount of crap they sell you for your given airplane and fixed those parts in the instructions i mentioned.. And why the heck cant they find a way to use less toxic crap!? OHH one MORE thing!! Ive been through TWO boxes (50 pcs) of them blue Nioxin gloves they say to use!! And the shit eats them up! Your fingers will be exposed in no time.. I just hope I live long enough to fly the thing a few years at this point. Not happy at all with this process.. It will look good if I ever get the runs fixed but seems like Im chasing my tail right now.. very pissed off like tail chasing..😡🤬Spent over $3,200 bucks on it all, I think they hope the chemicals will help you forget how much work or cost it was when its done.
