      Bluegraygal I should preface my question by saying that I have the hardest time keeping plants alive lol. But so far my petunias have been doing pretty well since I learned how to deadhead from you. My problem is though, that my petunias aren't as full as I'd like. Some of my neighbors have petunias that are beautifully round and so full you just see flower after flower, no leaves. Is there something I should be doing? I water them when I feel the top soil getting dry, and I deadhead every three days or whenever I see a dead or dying flower. I have no experience with this so any advice is so appreciated!

      Are you clipping them back? Also, what brand are you buying? There are some brands that are much better producing. You also may need fertilizer. Ask your neighbors or local plant store for ideas! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video!

    Hi Kelly. Great video. I have a planter full of magenta colored petunias. I repotted them from the 12” hanging planter they came in as they were choking. They’re in a much larger planter now sitting on the deck. They’re quite full at the moment & I have dead headed them as you described. I’m wondering about the cutting it back by a third? Some of the new flowers are on longish stems. I would like to keep it growing well all year. Want to make sure I don’t cut too much off. Thank you for sharing your passion for container gardening. 🙏🦋

    • @bluegraygal
      @bluegraygal  Před 3 měsíci

      You want to look at whether there are blooms at the base of the stem or jsut at the end. If there aren't any blooms at the base, then you need to snip that stem for it to regrow! Otherwise you'll have straggly legs everywhere with only a few blooms. Does that help?

    Hi! Great video! I got a few (3 to be exact) of these lovely petunias, how often should I water them? All of these videos usually explain how much to water quite a lot of flowers, but I only have 3. I don't want to drown them, but they also need water. Thanks! :)

    • @bluegraygal

      Thank you so much! I'm so glad you like it! I've actually never heard of shade petunias? Where did you hear about those? I've heard of wave petunias and have a lot of experience with that. They make great ground cover!

      Hey, you're welcome. Before watching your video I had heard of deadheading, but I never knew precisely where to pinch or cut, and you finely cleared that up for me; and, you have superb taste. I don't remember where I first heard of "shade petunias." I'm beginning to wonder now if maybe it was "wave" instead of "shade" that I heard. I've been doing a little research, and all I can come up with is "wave." Anyway, keep up the good work. I've already shared your channel with a few people.

    • @bluegraygal
      @bluegraygal  Před 7 lety

      Probably wave - those spread more and are good for ground cover. I'm so happy you enjoyed the video and it helped you!

      I couldn't agree more!!!! My phone is filled with photos of them. Whenever I walk past planters, or wildflowers or landscapes I oogle them. Flowers make me so happy. I remember once going to San Francisco at 17 years old on vacation. My parents told my sisters and I we could each get one gift. They chose toys. Me? I asked them to take me to the flower market and I bought flowers! :)
