  • In White Crane Kung-Fu the method employed is often not to initiate attack, but instead to exploit your opponent's attack in such a way that upon retraction you may follow them in and counter attack. In this video, we share with you a basic white crane block that will allow you to do just that.

    Yeah reading over the comments in this thread & dozens of other martial arts related threads here on youtube but also on other forums...all the criticism of (and quite frankly, often elitism) of this or that not the true style of this of that, the master/teacher is not teaching it right, judgments on whether a technique/style is going to be effective in a combat situation. And being that it's all coming from a theoretical subjective POV on the part of the criticizer...I'm reminded of a great answer to all these "inquiries/criticisms"--this I heard from a friend of mine who was quoting his karate instructor "whatever works, works". That's always going to be the bottom line in the martial arts. Save the purist(s) dialogue for the more so academic study of the martial arts.

    Not a student of your system so if I make any mistaken statements or assumptions feel free to tell me I don't know what I'm talking about, won't hurt my feelings in any way. I don't like "blocking" I am a more of a deflection person myself. Secondly I use a very similar hand movement I learned from Kali / Silat. When my hand deflects it is similar but reversed so as my outside part is "exposed" as would be your inside part. The difference is that if someone uses a knife on me I only get cut on the outside of my arm, were there is much less blood loss while your variation will get the inside of the arm sliced and there are many blood vessels and nerves that get cut. Very similar except the side of the arm that is exposed is different. Thanks much for posting your technique is very nice.

    While I don't necessarily believe every block must incorporate the waist, I still see how it could help out with this one. great vid I love crane and mantis shoalin style. attacking pressure points with the mantis wrist is pretty unique in itself.

  • @christoperenck1995
    @christoperenck1995 Před 7 lety +5

    Well the uniform is not Kung Fu so makes believe this is a Kempo school. The problem with this attempt to teach crane is it is not true crane. The crane block he is trying to teach is very little crane. Though it first starts like crane after his block it is no longer crane but Kempo.

    • @TigonKarate
      @TigonKarate  Před 7 lety +1

      Be careful not to judge a book by it's cover. The back bone of what we teach in our curriculum is kempo thus the uniform, the crane block taught here comes from Sleeping Crane Kung-Fu, one of the 4 major branches of Southern Shaolin White Crane.

    • @christoperenck1995
      @christoperenck1995 Před 7 lety +1

      I don't mean any disrespect. I am a purists when it comes to teaching Shaolin Kung Fu. Thus when i see someone teaching Kung Fu in a non kung fu uniform it makes me question there teaching. I trained with one of the few Real Grandmasters of Kung FU around anymore so my critical comments can be sharp at times. But with good reason.

    • @TigonKarate
      @TigonKarate  Před 7 lety +3

      That's understandable. Although I've trained with traditional Kung-Fu instructors, I take a slightly more progressive approach at my school.

    • @christoperenck1995
      @christoperenck1995 Před 7 lety +2

      It not about pride its about making sure people who are wanting to learn Kung Fu have the right teachers. Also as anyone who knows about You Tube can tell you there are fake teachers out there. So that's why i am critical on any teachers who dont have the proper kung fu appearance and dont explain what they really know or who they trained with. Its just caution. And they very many people confess they are master so and so but they are not true masters. Even though i trained with one and know enough to teach i do not call myself a master.

Your wellcome. Ps don't take my words too seriously for I don't want to make fun of the art, but maybe it would have been better to display the art against a bigger opponent and not against some college nerd who is younger then you. The art has been devolleped to be used against stronger and bigger opponents, not against smaller weaker ones (the kid could probably kick my ass using the art tho)

      Dude, get over yourself. Almost certain you're one of those mma bros.
      Pro tip: the first ufc changed nothing. It was a glorified commercial for Gracie BJJ run entirely by the gracies, from who fought who down to what the announcer said. Modern mma is just as useless anywhere but in a 1:1 sports ring setup with rules and restrictions preventing you from even practicing anything genuinely useful for self defence.
      And even if you do respect the gracies, remember that they held wing Chun and traditional martial arts in high regard and even co-held seminars with TMA guys because they recognized the benefit.
