Truly inspiring to see how carefully your Nation conserves the sanctity of Mother Nature in the face of worldwide deforestation and destruction of wildlife. its a great initiative for a good cause but you cant deny the fact that there's a reason why very less fish was caught despite fishing in a very pristine and undisturbed environment... If bhutan taps into the billion dollar angling tourism industry then it would be a great source of livelyhood for these bhutanese people and people who benefits from them would vigourously protect and conserve these endangered species...
Yes, the Bhutanese government currently has a very negative attitude towards angling tourism and you can only get licenses to fish for mahseer if you have high level connections. They do not realize how much the revenue from catch and release anglers can contribute towards conservation.
These WWF people are corrupted and are against angling. They discriminate against international anglers and have closed off Bhutan to sport fishing that can bring in thousands of dollars for the local economy. They should be thrown out of Bhutan.
I love angling, but isn't it right that some things are off limits. Money doesn't always help economy's like this, it can just intice people to chase the "dream" what ever that is. They are better off understanding and appreciating what they have.

Don’t just Grow up man , grow wise...if you have little concept of interdependence suddenly money won’t matter and you will respect all life forms....we survive not just because we are smart on earth than other animals but because we coexist...
Money always helps people and economies, try living without it and see. Nothing is subsistence based in Bhutan anymore it is very much a capitalist consumerist society now. Also catch and release angling has zero negative environmental consequences. You are being deluded by the corrupted WWF.

I've fished for both, caught golden dorado over 50lb, and the mahseer is far more powerful. no question.
