- Part one of Jay Sisler's home movies.

This video is off of a VHS that was shared with me in the late 90s. When I transferred it to DVD, the sound appears to have been lost and I'm working on it. For now, I've added comments that sync up with what Jay was saying about his dogs. I have sought permission from the late Sisler's wife with no reply . . . since this contains no sensitive information nor profit making venture for anyone, I'm posting it publicly for the Aussie community as historical reference. I would appreciate individuals keeping a low key about this posting because of the conditions of which is it posted.
Also, just to clear it up, these videos are taken in the 50s. Yeah, really.
Enjoy.

this is exactly what the internet & youtube were designed for. forever capturing a moment which could have been lost to video age. & showing/sharing it with the world. this is fantastic
This is my grandfathers brother so my great uncle, I can’t explain how happy it makes me to be able to watch these.
Oh that is soooo awesome 😊
Brilliant, brilliant brilliant :):) what a talented, gifted trainer and what marvelous Aussies !!! :)
I love looking at historical dog trick videos, their routines back then were so awesome!
The thing that strikes me as ususual is that back then, much of the training was harsh. It's so obvious and so delightful to watch such an amazing trainer with dogs that love him so much and are having so much fun right along with him!
Makes you long for the days of innocence... Thanks for sharing this!
What is really weird (and great) is that my Aussies started "acting up" when I started watching this video. One wanted to dance, no lie. Thanks so much for sharing this video -- is a must for all us true Aussie lovers!
may we enjoy each and every day in fun like this with our pups. pure abandon! I love it.
Wow! The Aussies were awesome.
But the Greyhound was the jawdropper to me. I had always heard that sighthounds were not very trainable. Guess we learn something new every day.
This is absolutely priceless footage. Many thanks for the great upload!
This has made my life!! I've always wanted to see his act. You can read about it in books and see all the pictures, but this is amazing!! I love to see anything that is related to the early foundation Aussies. Thanks for posting this!!
Impressive! And they are so clearly having fun.
I am a dog trainer, i use to "dance" with my dogs and teach tehm many tricks, and I think that this is just Amazing. Thank you very much for posting. ♥♥♥

In the 1950s and into the 1960s, Australian Shepherds Shorty and Queenie, trained by Jay Sisler, were part of his performing-dog act, which made appearances at venues ranging from Madison Square Garden to the Calgary Stampede. They also starred in two Disney movies: Stub: The Best Cowdog in the West and Run, Appaloosa, Run.
wow... most amazing dogs i have ever seen!!
This made me teary - they obviously LOVE what they're doing, and each other. He was very special. Thank you for sharing this.
Marvelous! Especially love the greyhound antics. What a great pup!
I love this video! That is absolutely fantastic! And all without clickers I bet!
There is no way those dogs would do half of those tricks if they didn't trust their handler 100%.
Fantastic! Thanks for sharing.
The best trained dogs I have ever seen in my life. Thank you for sharing it.

That is fantastic!!! It's all the best tricks I've seen over the years-- performed all at once!

amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I LOVE very ..thanks
Jay was blessed with a talent for training dogs alright. Very very impressive!
OMG this is SO AWESOME!!
Impresionante!!
LOVE IT!!! Totally Cool!
Wow!!
I am curious how old his dogs lived to and if they had health problems later on from the repetitive activities. My now retired vet noticed a significant increase in spondylosis since agility and fly ball started, due to the repetitive nature of some of the movements.
Such a successful trainer.

Oh! Super!
Amazing. A great trainer. Especially if this was done in the 50s.. Wow.
WOW. That's all I can say. Amazing dogs.
О боже) вот было чудо)))) браво
amazing ! (;
it's fantastic !!! :))
@supernaturalbc2009 - As far as I know, they lived long, healthy lives. These are some of the main foundations of the Australian Shepherd breed. I have a dog that's very much a throwback to these animals in size, weight, and attitude and at 9 she has no injuries and maintains a high level of enthusiasm and performance in agility, stockdog, frisbee, and adventuring.
The typical Aussie-more than amazing!
A late, great mam knew that I really loved my aussie stuff when I was a kid and sent me a VHS with this and the classic Disney Aussie movies. I don't know how he got ahold of it. The originals had commentary, but for some reason it disappeared when I made it digital, and by then it was too late.
Kristin Tara Horowitz My Father was Jay's first Cousin, John Russell. He stayed, with his dogs, at our house every Fall so he could perform at the Twin Falls County Fair and rodeo. Jay would get the dogs out and do a performance for the neighborhood kids every year. We also visited his family at His Ranch in Emmett, and attend family reunions. What a wonderful bunch they were..(are). When I was little, we went to Emmitt to adopt a beautiful tri-color female Australian Shepherd puppy. We named her "Candy". I still compare every dog to the "Candy standard". Jay was an incredible guy in so many ways. That's why he could get dogs to perform at such a high level. It wasn't just technique, Stub, Shorty, Queenie, Gretta etc. just wanted to please Jay. He loved his dogs and they loved Jay. So did anbody who ever got to know him....I could go on and on. Thanks for your posts and dedication to the Dogs.
thats great

La calidad del vídeo ya se ve que es mala pero no resta, calidad a los ejercicios me han encantado menudo equipazo de perros tienes un abrazo amigo y felicidades.
great videos. good to see this preserved for posterity. any chance of copying the original film at a higher resolution? the pixelation is more distracting than the grainy old film.
at the 4:10 mark there is a greyhound doing amazing tricks!!!
Уникально!!!
genius:D he's a fantastic trainer.
and the dogs amazing to:D
amazing vid! i love the 4:40 part!
Please, can you tell how you had such a vidéo? Thanks
lindo
Is there a part two?
Сууупер! В каком же году было снято это видео? Идеальная дрессура!!! )))
Erm...make that "when it started" -- that's what I get for editing and not rereading one last time!
With some food, you can bribe an Australian shepherd into doing pretty much anything. We could probably teach my Aussie Shepherd to carry out a hit with some pizza crust.
Świetne!
@WelcomeToTheSeaCom - dogs wouldn't do these things with so much enthusiasm if they were forced. I have taught my dogs many tricks in this video using clicker training and reward. I do NOT use force or + punishment in anyway to teach them these things and their safety always comes first.
My dog is for real the descendant of the aussie
woow genialne xD
de senzatie....
@WelcomeToTheSeaCom Every morning, Sisler's wife used to make a few more hotcakes than were necessary for breakfast...
Jay used them to reward his dogs. ^^
cool xD
wow that is talint i wish i could teach my dog that but shes too lazzy
@WelcomeToTheSeaCom haha, what they did to them?? Other than love and spend time with them which is what all dogs need?? wow. You ever own a dog?
I have a almost 5 month old Aussie. She's a black and white tricolor (meaning mostly black and white with tan points) I don't doubt her intelligence, but she is stubborn and a bone head and sneaky.lol We'd just be happy if she came when she is called and didn't try and steal from the table (i blame my dad on that one).lol She is going to puppy training soon. Thinking about agility training as something to keep her happy and active.
Aussie's have such a weird stiff, bouncy jump... does anyone know what about their structure causes this?
Quite the opposite. Aussies are usually longer than tall. Which jump are you watching?
I think it depends on what they're doing - in agility it's a fluid jump - but when they're jumping ropes and what not, it's choppy because of application. It's also dependent on attitude. I've seen that choppy bounce you're talking about when working because it's "playing" instead of trying.
@WelcomeToTheSeaCom haha, what they did to them?? Other than love and spend time with them which is what all dogs need?? wow. You ever own a dog? And what makes you think Jay punished his dogs? Read up on the guy instead of making ignorant posts.
Amazing!
