You dropped this video just at the right time for me! Was just talking about how to up my volume today at the box and then bam! Here you are! Thanks Jason!
Boom!
Very nice video, Jason. I’m 54 and six months into my CrossFit adventure, and I’m loving it. You’re advice is spot on. I force myself to recover, even though I want to train every day of the week, multiple times a day.
When I started, at 6’1” and 270+ pounds, it was tough and easy. The workouts were tough, but leaving my ego at home was easy. If I were younger starting CF I would probably have seriously injured myself! With the work, and a much better diet, I have lost at least 40+ pounds and put on a significant amount of muscle.
You are an inspiration and I will continue to follow your lead and advice. Thank you, champ!
👏👏👏 You deserve a round of applause!! You're killing it Marty. Keep it up 👊
I’m 43, have gone through the ups and downs of training, overtraining, competing locally, my fair share of injuries and I find you and your style of training the most relatable to me. While I’m not working towards competitive CF and the games, I still like knowing that when I play pick up basketball, I can tap into an extra gear that most guys my age don’t have, and to continue to get better as I age. And just so you know, you DO represent all us OG’s in the sport at the games. Thanks for the content bro.
Love that dude!! Staying fit and getting after it on the basketball court!! Appreciate your support 👊
Excellent video well done, great editing, great comedic pauses
I'm preparing for my first-ever competition,
During the preparation, although I dedicated a good time to warm up, eating very well, and sleeping well, I noticed that I began to lose some shoulder mobility. My body is giving me signals with tendon inflammation here and there,
That's why I decided to take 2 days off, sit back and re-arrange the preparation. Currently, I'm trying to adapt the training to a more moderate volume with two full rest days, Wednesday and Saturday,
Thanks a lot, Jason for the great tips
All good stuff dude!!! Good luck with the competition!
Great advice Jason, I have a new goal this year and it is to make it thru the quarterfinals. I am currently 64 and weigh 145 lbs. I am also training for the Masters Olympic Weightlifting Nationals in March. I will drop down to 61 Kgs. 134 lbs. it is the same time as the Open cranks up. I will gradually start in December with 2 a day workouts. Metcons at 5am and strength and conditioning at 3:30 pm. By the way whatever that dog in the background has been eating I need to know. He is on FIRE!! I may want to include that into my supplementation.
Hey Marc - ha ha... that dog was awesome back there! (not my dog). But as far as getting through quarterfinals while dropping weight - that will be a challenge my friend. It's possible, but you'll generally find that those good at making it through quarters or semis in CrossFit have some weight on them. I applaud your effort in both sports!! My general recommendation would be to make sure you're fueling your training appropriately as you ramp up to 2 a day workouts, but you'll have to restrict that to shed 10lbs. It's going to be tough!!! We can definitely chat further on the phone my friend. This is a fun problem!!
@@JasonGrubb My fitness and strength doesn't drop off much when I get ready for the Olympic Weightlifting events, I just have to dial in my nutrition and then ramp up some cardio. I am blessed to train with Justin King at Slingin Iron in Walker La. He is a masters games athlete as well. I would love to pick your brain as well hopefully we can chat. I will send you my info. thru one of the social media platforms. Thank you,
I just turned 40. I’m gonna sub to this channel because my story feels somewhat similar. I want to start competing locally and I don’t know where to start but it seems like I’ve accidentally stumbled into doing everything he’s recommended
You’re in the right place!
Enjoyed this video. The advice is solid, as always, but this video had an outstanding edit of content, clips, and music, ads/links. You also answered a longstanding question I've had about training vs. terrible sleep days. Keep up the great work. I'd say this was a video PR for sure. 😉
Thanks brother!! Working on it!
LOVE IT!! Got into CrossFit late but fell in love with it HARD 😂 I’ll be 32 this year and my goal is to qualify for semis/games when I hit the 35-39 division.
Awesome goal Ryan!! Keep doing the work and you'll see progress!
@@JasonGrubb always man!! Also, I just saw you were in Panama City?!? Love Sarah/Kevin and the PC CrossFit family!
Congratulations on winning the legends championship again. All hard work and I enjoyed watching and cheering you on from Australia 💪😊
Thanks so much!! Appreciate your support from down under 👊
Thank you so much for the video. Definitely know where I need to make some changes!
Glad it was helpful!
Much love brother! Thanks for sharing!
You bet
Great video. thank you Jason, just grabbed the nighttime drink.
Enjoy!
Thank you! These videos are very much appreciated.
You're very welcome!
Thanks for the great advice Jason!
You bet!
Great video. Very encouraging.
Thansk!
I’ve really enjoyed your channel, man. I caught the CrossFit bug at 31. I just turned 32. You’ve inspired me to maybe make a run at the masters someday.
Just gotta figure out how to get my wife to let me train this much 😂
Haha... it's a tough sell my man 🤣. I'm pretty fortunate that my wife is onboard.
@@JasonGrubb You are fortunate indeed! My wife does CrossFit with me, so maybe the time commitment can build as we improve.
Appreciate the video! Always enjoy your content
Glad to hear it!
I'll eventually be competing against you at the games. Not sure how long it will take, but loving the journey. Great job on the wins brother! Keep up the hard work.
Let's go!! Can't wait!
@@JasonGrubb 42% this open (45-49).. getting to quarters next season.. onward.
Why do I feel like you were talking directly to me? Lol
Great video, as always.
Ha! Good luck taking the next step 👊
Solid advice!
Thanks!
I always learn something from you. You earned my subscription.
Thank you!
Great advices Bro, it's just what I need now, so appriciated ❤
Happy to help!
I am 49 and I find I cannot do more than 5 training sessions a week to allow recovery. Trying to go 6 days a week does not allow me to recover. What I found works for me is adding a little time to every session. I get to the box early and spend 10 - 15 minutes of extra warm up ( the 5 minute warm up in the class is just not enough for me). After the WOD I spend 10 sessions working on some technique (currently trying to add butterfly pullups) and another 10 minutes stretching. I also do a low intensity workout on one of my "off days" - slow rowing, walking or slow jogging.
I follow a similar weekly schedule. Glad you found what works for ya!
Awesome video Jason
Appreciate it!
Thank you
Welcome!
Fascinating to understand your ramp up in volume.
At some point, is it fair to say you need to quit your job or own a gym do get those hours in?
It would be interesting to understand economics-side of being a masters athlete
I definitely didn't quit my job! While I owned a gym when I won my first CrossFit Games - I let it go and moved into the online training space. It's a lot of hard work - especially when balancing content creation, coaching clients, and training. Long days. Doing things I love.
Great stuff
Great episode
Appreciate the view!
What do you say to busy professionals with families Jason?
I'm a busy professional with a family... For me, I had to build a life/business that provided me a couple of hours to train each day.
1400+ hours per year, so that means you workout in average 3,8+ hours a day? Did I understand that correctly? Did the intensity accompanied the increase in hours ? Or did you dilute your workouts ? So many questions 😅
yep - some days more , other days less. Depending on the season. I take 10-15 min between workout segments. Lot's of food. Hydration. LMNT. Etc.
Hey Jason, I'll be trying out the open for this first time next year. Any tips? I'm 35 and i workout 6 days a week, all crossfit except 1(thursdays).
Get good a tolerating grueling workouts. The kind that make your lungs and muscles burn. Those are the open workouts. They're testing your fitness!! Take a look at the open workouts over the past couple of years and give them a shot to see how you feel.
@@JasonGrubb I appreciate the tips Jason. I'll do my best to get used to the open workouts. Your channel is a game changer, especially for masters athletes. Thank you for what you do.
Good video! However, it is really to recover properly sometimes with a full-time job. Increasing volume means being really tired on the next next day and not that efficient at work...Keep it up :)
Good point!
