Yes but you can’t swap materia loadouts which is still annoying.
A lot of people are interpreting the ending of the game in a very different way than I am and I find it all so interesting. I love it.

Final Fantasy 16 in my opinion is a bit better
I think XVI did some things better than Rebirth and vice versa, but to me, overall, Rebirth was a more consistent package, even if it doesn't have the highs that XVI does.
Have to agree with op. Rebirth was a slogfest and overstayed it's welcome. Whereas 16 I felt immersed the whole game. Also the finalubi effect is here. Who decides to make a boring open world with a ton of map markers. The combat is fine but not consistent in enemy design.
@@junwong23different folks, different strokes I guess. I loved 16's story (Clive had such a sad life) but 7 has a much more charming cast (in 16, I only cared about 3 characters - Clive as a teenager was VERY charming!), much more memorable music and locations, and a imo better combat - the latter is super subjective. Both are excellent games in all other aspects though, so I'm not going to argue. 16 was my personal goty 2023, while Rebirth is the goty 2024 for me. I hope for a 16-2 with no DLC but a Rebirth treatment, with a proper budget for dungeons/caves, world traversal/an airship etc.
While I prefer ff14 and ff9 for combat so I have a range I hate rebirths combat. 16 is ok.
I preferred XVI personally. The open world burned me out a bit and so did the minigames. XVI was more linear and just felt like it respected my time more and as a dad that's kind of what I'm looking for in video games these days. To me nothing can top XVI's bosses. Can't wait to fight Leviathan this weekend. Rebirth is still a solid 8.5 from me though. Amazing characters and a memorable journey but just felt like a slog at times.
You know, while I do agree that the bosses in XVI absolutely topped most of Rebirths' bosses, a lot of the non optional quests in XVI felt like slogs to me... Like the lows between the highs were really low whereas in Rebirth, most of the stuff that can feel like a lot is optional. I do agree, like I said in the video, that some of the mini games got to me but overall it was a more even adventure.

8.5 is still a very good score! Haven't heard anything really baaaad about Rebirth, so it's probably a strong GOTY contender. FF deserves it. Both games were excellent.

14 is a fantastic game but it's also one that's been developing and growing and getting better over ten years. It's a bit unfair to compare it to any other FF honestly, but I do love it a ton. And 7 Remake is fantastic but I think this is the better game overall.
The core story is pretty good, but Im not a huge fan of the game surrounding it. I played 160 hours got a platinum trophy and I already know I'll never touch it again, hard mode is unfun and restrictive, a carryover design from remake where it was widely unpopular. If you can't make the game harder without restricting how I am allowed to play it, then your systems are flawed.
I'm not a huge fan of the combat system either, its bones are fun when analyzed on a normal play, but again, once you factor in hard mode, and the fact that the only way they could make it hard was by making every battle a puzzle that pushed you to a specific build, that's not good, it destroys player choice....literally WTF, the entire hard mode really wants you to play cloud like he's a mage, that's so incredibly not cloud.
Ambiguous story telling, just tell a cohesive story, we shouldnt be rotating through 10 different theories about what is going on, when a 100 hour game concludes with 10 different outcomes being possible, you suck at writing. I dont want to wait 10 years total to hope to get concrete outcomes for the other 2 games i played years prior, i already know i wont, this shit is going to end like 16 where anyone can pull a ending out of thier butt and technically cant be told they are wrong.
Those are all fair complaints, though for the story bits it's what they chose, a mystery box style story that we won't be able to truly understand until the very end. The story itself isn't hard to comprehend, at least in my opinion, specially after we have some time to think about what we're seeing. Hard mode taking things away is def a choice that can be controversial and I also understand where you're coming from but I'm not a game designer and I think whoever came up with that idea had something in mind and isn't just lazy or what have you. Like I said, totally understand your points.
Not by a long shot. Rebirth is a thesis on creatively bankruptcy. Also it's heavily padded to justify its development time with nonsense. The story is a predictable bore that goes ham at the last part trying to come out deeper than what is actually being told. The Unknown Journey is known by all. Game looks worse than its predecessor and the combat additions are flavor with almost no strategic depth or consequence. It's a 7 out of 10. Average and unremarkable. If this is the best the franchise can produce with an already existing property then Squeenix is in dire straits.
