    Thank you so much for the tip about staying away from lithium batteries for this bike. I almost made a big mistake!

      What specifically was the issue with running a lithium battery? My R1100S has had the same Shorai lithium battery in it for 11 years stored on a trickle charger between rides no issues so far and so much lighter.

    You're 100% right about K&N filters. They're absolutely silly for anyone not on a racetrack. Our Oilheads don't even have an air flow sensor to notice the difference so all they do is suck in more dirt and make the bike run too lean.

    Randy does still take orders occasionally for the Rapid Dog bar backs and then produces small batches. He can be found on the Pelican Parts BMW R1100S forum.

    Love all your videos. Bought my 1st BMW last year a 2000 1100RT 75,000mi. Love it. Watch all your videos for my maintenance.
    I just broke a clutch cable and am looking for video on replacement.

    One thing about LED bulbs though -- for simple switched circuits like brake lights and dashboard lights, they're not a problem on pretty much any motorcycle made in the last 50 years. The big troubles are with relayed circuits like turn signals that are meant for incandescent bulbs (including turn signal indicators on the dash), and LED bulbs not being compatible with stock headlight housings.

    Great videos, I have watched all from the First.I have a question, I'm about to buy a 2000 r1100rt, what's the best motor oil you would recommend ?

    I think I have the taller sport shock because the rear wheel doesn’t come off the ground on the center stand. However I find the shock too stiff even with zero preload. And I have no static sag. Feels great at higher speeds but terrible for city roads.

      Sounds like something's seized. Maybe time for a refurb or replacement?

  • @narcissistinjurygiver2932

    what is your opinion of installing newer multi hole injectors for the old oil heads?

  • @yonatangirma8669
    @yonatangirma8669 Před měsícem

    Interesting to know that the early R1100S has the same head as the R1200C. I just replaced the head gasket on my R1200C but since I don't have a piston ring compressor. I just removed the cam bolt with the piston all the way down while supporting the S/OT top timing tab with a bent screwdriver through the timing hole. Everything else was done according to the Clymer manual procedure. Even zip tied the chain to the sprocket and reinstalled with the horizontal timing marks. Now it's not firing up although I got spark and fuel. But I'll try it with some starting fluid. Valves were closed when head was out and even though I did it with Bottom Top Dead Center instead of Top, what do you think, will it fire up as is? Or get that ring compressor and do it again?

    Another great one. I’m looking for some suspension currently. Just so much money. Maybe I’ll start with a rear first. What do you say about running a 160 in the back? I know it says 170, but I’ve been getting great deals on the 160. LOL on K&N, mine came with one, I went back to stock.

    • @brockcroy805
      @brockcroy805 Před 2 lety

      I've actually been running a 180 in the rear on mine. Lot easier to find and then you can run tires like the Road 5 and Road 6.

    • @NotNowCato1254
      @NotNowCato1254 Před 2 lety

      Should really only run a 180 on the 1/2" wider Sport rim, otherwise the profile will be affected and be sub-optimal.

    • @hadabadachada1367
      @hadabadachada1367 Před 2 lety

      I have the standard rim, not the later, bigger rim. They recommend 170 on it. I run 160. Great prices. And it makes it go faster, lighter. Science.

  • @NYCZ31
    @NYCZ31 Před 2 lety

    That's one low ridin K1200RS. Those bar risers too... jeez. PS is there a better brand of pod filter than K&N if one is forced to use them (as on my Ducati 900SS with aftermarket dell ortos)

    • @magicoddeffect
      @magicoddeffect Před 2 lety +1

      If you're gonna run pods, UNI two-stage foam pods are a pretty decent option.
      Since you're already running direct-pulls and pods there really aren't any options that clean the air as well as an OEM paper filter in an OEM airbox. Any pod is going to pull in dirtier air since they're built for track performance and not longevity. That being said, two-stage foam filters (which is all that UNI makes, just in various shapes and sizes) come stock on a ton of dirtbikes and dual-sports.

    • @NYCZ31
      @NYCZ31 Před 2 lety +1
