Do not take for granted on what's good.

It is not taking for granted what is good alone but it as to be productive and one that speaks for the people and does not change the constitution of Singapore without a proper referendum. The PAP Government is good but for it to be better there is a need to have some good opposition voices to awaken them during the process. I will still prefer the PAP but in view of Singapore's growth and the world progressive changes and democratic process, it will be good to have at least a 1/4 of the parliamentary house Opposition or else it may be a country that is fully dominated by one party with no challenges in the future for our local people and their future generation. Personally I don't think PAP will lose this election. If my prediction is right based on the quality of the oppositions, PAP will win at least 70-75 seats and the Oppsoition ( WP and PSP) may only win 20-25 seats. This is a rather balanced and conservative approach based on every election since 1991. Adding to that look at the quality of a number of opposition like SPP, DPP, SDP, PV, Reform Party, SDA, RDU and NSP which contest most of the seats. The PAP will definitely win 70-75 seats from them. Even WP and PSP, a number of the seats will be won by the PAP. So I don't know what LHL is talking about?

@christophers2937 Come live in Australia where not much get done ....all in the name of democracy and freedom.
I left Singapore 30 years ago for all the things you said of a one party system.
Now that I have experienced the pros & cons of both systems, my view have changed.
But everyone is entitled to his/her own views.

@@jaytso1883 definitely. I too stayed in many countries for the past years. I just arrived in Singapore after 13 years away. It is better to have a two party system. I know what having a one party system will do. If you read my statement properly, I did not advocate for a supermajority party system but a system where there are some voice of mature political parties which could give different views for the improvement of the country. You are comparing Australia alone which I know what is western countries ideology and democracy all about but I stayed in the Philippines, Taiwan et cetera. I could see what happened to one party rule and the effect of it. We do not need to adhere to their kind of freedom and democracy. It is based on your definition of democracy and freedom. I am talking about strengthening the core of the progress of the country in term of unemployment for the local, different diverse views that could help the country to progress et cetera . It is not the democracy and freedom you portrayed in Australia system. Suggest youlive in the Asean countries to have a better view. In fact you You have your choice and I have mine.

"Go for the opposition, vote the better team ....." This is a significant departure from 40 years ago when the PAP clobbered and bankrupt oppositions in their adamant "one-party" policy. For this, I'll respect the SM for his farsightedness in unwinding the long held position that only those in whites can and should govern. A legacy that's good for the country and hallmark of a mature Statesman. Now it's up to the opposition to prove that they're up to the mark and a viable alternative. This is democracy.

Honestly. I dont think that there will be an alternative Government for many decades to come. First look at the overall oppositions. Other than the WP and the PSP which parties are capable or have the ability to govern. It is good to have opposition voices but it depends on the types of opposition and their calibre. PAP Government will be more productive and capable if there are at least 1/4 of the house who are opposition so that everything will be open to public scrutiny. Personally , I feel that the coming election will have 70 to 75 PAP MPs and maybe 20-25 Oppositions. It will be more balance and it strengthen the core of democracy.

@@christophers2937could b. Overall if Mr Wong, doesn't collect enough or as much if the vote as late Mr Lsl, then as far as most are concerned it will b a 'no' vote to the transition! My opinion, though it doesn't really matter what outsiders think, because Spore has already a hill to climb😊
