- My 2,100th kite video. This striking Face Kite (1.6m/64in tall) will be recognizable to most older people, but some younger viewers may not know who it represents. It comes from the very talented couple who run skybums.com/index.htm . They have many unusual designs in addition to the Face.
Anyone wanting to check out all my "How to..." videos on various aspects of kite-flying can now find them all easily on my Playlist at / jimskitesnz .
Its been claimed that doing what you love promotes longevity. You are fortunate to have hit on kites and flourished as a result. I know that getting new stuff is increasingly expensive, but you manage. I trust you are setting your sights on 3,000 videos.
No way, Glenn. At my present rate of uploads, which is sure to slow down due to age and, more short-term, the coming winter, it would take another six years to reach 3,000. By that time I'll either be almost 90 or, more probably, long gone.
Just randomly rememberered this youtube channel from 6 years, i used to watch all your videos everyday, im glad that you're still uploading! Thanks for all those years of entertainment and reviews.
Welcome back! There's plenty to catch up on if you have time to waste.
John Freeman was one of our local kite makers, it was always fascinating to watch him testing out new designs.
He is the kite flyer that showed me the abilities of looped Fuzzy Tails for calming overactive kites.
That must have been great to have John there. I agree with him 100% on the subject of fuzzy tails, and I've made a couple of videos promoting them.
I love that angel kite; I wish I had purchased one when it was available. Nice assortment and blue shy!
Yes, it's sad that the Angel disappeared, Mark. I'd thought of buying two more and stacking them, which would have been easy and would have looked great I think, but I left it too late and they had all gone.
I am so late watching this excellent video. I enjoyed seeing the Face kite again and pleased you showed the interesting rear construction view. Can't think of another kite that has the '"S " shaped rods. Glad you're still having some clear days but it's feeling cooler now.
Sleeping, were you, Carl? Glad you caught up, and I hope you have a good weekend. We had a thunderstorm this afternoon, so it's not all blue skies here!
Yes very interesting Jim. Face kite very unique. The Angle is beautiful. Nice video Jim!
Thanks, Dewey. I should fly the Face more often - I've had it a long time, but it doesn't often get seen.
Thank you Jim for sharing your unusual collectable kites...diffidently
keeper kites.
Craig, I've sold a number of kites over the years that I would have loved to keep, but I couldn't justify the amount of money that I had invested in my collection. I don't have that pressure now that I've thinned out the collection somewhat, and will probably hold on to most of what is left until I give up flying (or breathing, whichever comes first!)
So cool Jim. That face kite is a very cool shape. Ron
It certainly is, Ron. The designers of that have some very unusual designs. See: skybums.com/index.htm .
That bird on a wire kite is absolutely gorgeous!
It's certainly a striking design, but sadly long out of production after the closing of Gomberg Kites.
It's been a long time since I saw the big checker delta kite. I miss it so much. Thank you for sharing this video.
I didn't see this comment until now. CZcams is still doing strange things with your comments, and I don't know why. Yes, that delta is good, and I should fly it more often. We are getting a lot of low-wind days, so probably I will use it again soon.
Paul and Helene Morgan - aka 'Skybums'!
Most definitely. Great people with many years of experience.
The face kite looks professionell. That's a great work. I especially like the bird kite is also a good idea. Beautiful video 😊
The makers of the Face are very professional designers and makers, with a long-established business in the UK. See: skybums.com/index.htm .
Maybe just five but an outstanding display none the less Jim!
I'm glad you enjoyed it, Hal. We've been lucky to have some good autumn days recently, actually better than most of the summer (which was well below par).
The Angel kite is a lovely design.........but personally I'd want the 'missing' black sections filled in for balance on that other wing !
I am lucky enough to have known P And H for over thirty two years, so have several ( ok, about 18) of their creations; several of which are Helene's face designs. Lovely people, great kites. Lucky to have them in the UK !!!!
Eighteen of their kites must be a record of some sort! You should do a mass fly of them and upload a video. And with such a collection of kites you should be uploading videos regularly - stop playing with scooters and get the kites in the air and the camera working!
@@JimNicholls If only we had some dry weather............. ?
First kite get together with a few enthusiasts this coming long w/e and forecast is almost solid rain ! We have worries like "will the camper van get bogged down in the wet field".
I want to fly my 4m dragon and that cheap, long tailed Ray.
Oh for your blue skies............
Send me all your kites and I'll fly them for you! I can't afford to buy kites these days (with the odd exception when there are a few dollars left over from the pension ) and I'm just trying to dig out items (like the Face) that haven't flown for a while. I hope your weather improves soon and you get kites in the air and some videos on your channel.
Love the Skybums 3do, just ordered a box kite from them 👍
If the postage from the UK to New Zealand wasn't so horrific, I would buy more of their products, and I might possibly be tempted sometime anyway!
@@JimNicholls Do it, I'll upload my maiden flight too!
Let me know when you do.
Like the kites!
Thank you, Evan. I hope you've managed to get your kite to fly.
Jim, it would be nice to have somebody standing next to some of the kites before launch to get some perspectives of the size.
Steve, the video that I filmed yesterday may include a couple of such shots when I finish editing it. I don't do it all the time, but occasionally there will be such a shot. Unfortunately it usually has to be me with the kite and I don't really like appearing in my videos.
Fair enough Jim. When you said the delta was about 18 feet wide I just thought gee I'd love to get something next to it for a size comparison. It must be huge.
It's the biggest delta that I have. I used to have a 19ft one but I sold that several years ago.
Face kite looks like Marilyn Monroe.
Indeed it does, Sheryl. It was not claimed as such by the makers, perhaps due to copyright reasons, but there is no doubt about who it represents.
Thanks for the nice display Jim! Over the years I thought about acquiring 3 of those kites but somehow other financial priorities always seemed to get in the way😢😂!! But at least I get to enjoy your videos instead😊😊‼️What are the dimensions of the Face and were other faces available besides Norma Jeane Mortenson's ⁉️😏
The kite is 1.6m high (64 inches for Americans) and is made in a number of designs including faces of which MM is probably the most popular. See: skybums.com/3do.htm .
Jim, you had an interesting assortment of kites today. I like the angel, the bird and the face. These are very different from the normal kites. How can you tell that the plane was flying from South America to Australia? The bird told you and the angel confirmed it. Haha just joking!
I am back from Thailand and my channel viewership has dived while I was there. CZcams algorithm is not helping my uploads as videos on similar subjects by other content creators are getting thousands of views. I will be going to Taiwan for another vacation with my family in a few days time. Going yet again to China in June with wife. We grabbed the air tickets, to Chongqing, by Singapore Airlines as it was offered at extremely low price. I will not fight the downtrend of my viewership and let it be low. I will enjoy my vacations and rebuild my channel after my China trip.
The aircraft was overflying NZ from east to west at high altitude and there are no domestic flights that do that. We regularly see such flights and know that their route must be from SA to Australia as there is basically nothing else in either direction.
My viewing figures took a dive a few weeks back for no reason that I could determine, and undoubtedly just due to some change in the ridiculous CZcams algorithm. Numbers have picked up in the last couple of weeks, but that may just be because I've been uploading more frequently (some good weather helped) although I have been making an effort to dig out some interesting kites that hadn't been seen for a while. Your videos are great whatever the viewing figures. I hope you have a great time on your trips to Taiwan and China and look forward to seeing what you produce there. Low price tickets don't exist here as we are so far away from everywhere.
@@JimNicholls if there are low priced tickets to NZ (that has never happened), I will come to visit and fly kites with you.
@@SingaporeCityWalks That would be great, but as you say, that never happens - the prices just go up!
Amazing......Suatu saat channel saya juga akan saya buat seperti ini... Santai dan menghibur👍👍
I'm glad you enjoyed it. You have some interesting kites.
I’m old! I know! Ah, age can lend wisdom …! Thanks again- good to see some of those old Gomberg!
