No, not crazy!😊 Sewing and any other types of crafting is FUN! 😄 Btw, I like your knife pleats technique. I haven't sewn in a while and never made many pleated items but when I have, I've always pinned the pleats and then sew them. Although it may "seem" to take longer doing it your way, it probably saves time because you're finishing as you make each pleat. Your way definitely produces nicer results.❤ As a new subscriber, I'm enjoying your videos. You do very well with your demos. Thanks for sharing your helpful tips and tricks! 👍🙂
I am in the middle of making a baby quilt & I decided I was going to add a ruffle- Just looking for a quick way & I stumbled across your video..love the idea..Thanks
Thank you so very much for this tutorial. I have YARDS of pleated ruffle to make and this is sooo much easier than the way I was doing it (pins and iron).
I was afraid to do a pleat. You made it so easy that I made pleats for a reenactment Victorian skirt in just a couple of hours. SOOOO easy. Thanks you so much.
Learned something else too. If you use the cardboard that comes with bias tape it works easily. The cardboard is slick. Wish I could send a picture of my pleats. I am sooo thrilled.
Jann, I think you are so wonderful and I appreciate all of your amazing tutorials! Do you think you would ever add a tutorial teaching how to layer this knife pleat with homemade cording for the edge of a pillow?
Thank you for your kind words. I did create the type of pillow you're talking about in my Custom Bedding: Decorative Shams and Bolsters class that I did for Craftsy. You can find it here: www.craftsy.com/class/custom-bedding-decorative-shams-bolsters/
Ty, gonna make me a ruff! And some maybe wristlets! These would also look nice on my next bonnet!🥳💚. I like this idea better than the fork method cuz I can customize the pleat size!
What a great idea, I'm working on a skirt and think this will work nicely. I'll probably use a plastic ruler in place of the card board, it should be the perfect size!
Teresa, I'm glad the tutorial was helpful. Make your fabric strips approximately 3 times longer than the finished length you need. This is not an exact science. How big the fabric strips end up after pleating is effected by how thick the fabric is, and how tight you pull the fabric as you pleat.
Jann Newton or anyone who has idea… any ideas how to reattach the ruffle to the neckline of a made dress? Darts in front ,pleats in back ,zipper… almost think I’m going to have to take it loose at the waist….
This is fabulous!! Thank you very much. What is the model number of the Brother sewing machine you are using in this video if you don't mind my asking? Looking for a new one and this looks like one I would love to have.

This will be very helpful...thanks! Do you have any tips for determining how long your fabric strip needs to be.

Great tutorial! How do you join the two ends if you're wrapping the ruffle around an item?
Darlene, thanks! Here's an example of how I join the ends in my knife-pleat pillow post. www.newtoncustominteriors.com/pillow-with-knife-pleat-ruffle/

I'm not a dressmaker, my expertise is more pillows, draperies, etc., so I can't speak as to how to reattach the ruffle on your dress.
Thank You Jann Newton for being honest! It was a job but I did figure it out!

Vanessa, I have a 30 - 40 year old industrial sewing machine.
So helpful! Hearing the 3 inch strip to begin with is great.. and would you say that your cardboard was about an inch wide or smaller, can't tell?
