Quick, informative, and easily understandable. I glad to see a video that doesn’t spend 30 minutes talking about only one type of rum.
Thank you and thanks for watching!!!
No for real. 45 minutes in and they ain't move on once🤣🤣🤣
No BS, straight to it, hugely informative = subscribed no question
Awesome thank you and thanks for watching
Except that it's the obsolete and least useful system of rum classification - according to color, which is mostly controlled by adding the E150a (caramel) food coloring. So "light, gold, dark" rum does not really say anything about the rum itself. Much more useful information can be conveyed by proper categorization - for example, if the rum is made from sugar cane juice (agricole), or molasses (industrial), if it's tropically or continentally aged, if it's English, Spanish or French style rum, if it's cask or solera aged, and what type of barrels, if special barrels are used to finish the aging, if it's a pure rum (unsweetened, unflavored, or even uncolored), or what additives were used, etc.
Nobody orders "yellow whisky", or "dark cognac", why are we stuck to this foolish system with rum?
I'm huge rum lover. I like rums that have complex flavour. I like those 12,15 years aged rums that have nice woody, dark and full taste to it like El Dorado or Plantation rum for example but on the other side I also like sweet spiced complex rums that have taste like vanilla, raisins, caramel or chocolate and also are heavy on caribbean spices like Captain Morgan Dark Spiced or Legendario Elixir de Cuba... I don't like rums that have flat taste, ethanolic... white rum can be great sometimes also especially in coctail and if it has that sugarcane sweetness so you can taste sugarcane the most haha. Interesting video by the way :D
Awesome information...
Thanks for watching and commenting
Thanks for the short class on Rums. Cheers and be safe during this mess.

Awesome video. Love the content of your channel. Just subscribed!!!!!
Always such good info!! Love this channel it’s...delicious! Lol I think it would have been cool to seen a line up of the colors in a clear glass not just in the bottles. Is dark rum that dark or is that dark glass too? Is Malabo clear?
Great ideas....I should have done that.
Thank you and thanks for watching!!!
Thanks for sharing
Nice video! Interesting to watch, I've always wondered the differences between the types of rum, I'd to see a similar video with types of gin or vodka , keep up the good work :D
Great idea!! Thanks for watching,!!
I love such „basic“ theory videos. Thank you very much. Would like to see additional ones in the future.
Thank you and thanks for watching
great breakdown, perfect for my rum tasting! Thank you!!
Thank you and thanks for watching
Yeah Fred you can absolutely do Bar theory, excellent
Thank you and thanks fo watching
No, not really. His choices re overpriced and suck.
I noticed that you have captain morgan spiced rum. In Australia it is no longer labeled as rum, just captain morgan spiced gold. The bottle gives no indication of just how much or little rum it contains.
Yes it's only 70 proof or 35% ABV....in the US they can call it flavored or spiced rum to get around the 80 proof 40% ABV regulations. Thanks for watching and the comment.
So captain morgan spiced gold is basically the same as captain morgan spiced rum? in in australia too and need to know
@@PrimalMisfit yes it’s the same rrr
Boom, the video I needed. Thanks mate. Now I definetely need to try a gold rum, and mix up my cocktails a bit.

Thank you and thanks for watching!!
These vids are so good. Either the aspiring bartender community is small or your vids are being hidden by CZcamss algorithm because of the alcohol, bc otherwise this channel would blow up.
Thank you I appreciate that!!! Thanks for watching too!!
Awesome! Short and informative video. The way it should be! I'm kind of spiced rum man... With organic cola is a peace of heaven! 😋
Sounds great!! Thanks for watching and commenting!!

Nice quick and on point... of course not getting into the different origins and stuff which make rum so complicated but still a great video
Thanks for watching and commenting
Awesome to understand why trying all the types of rum I enjoy dark rum the best
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍 enjoy!!
Great post/video
Now is dark rum better for u than white rum?
I ask because of the sweetness/sugar that i think will cause a worser hangover than light rum.
Which I've heard dark liquor causes worse hangovers.
Thanks for watching 👍
Great video
Thank you and thanks for watching!!!
Hope you like rum matie
Do u have any video in the high end rums like zacapa, roza de Caña or something like that?

It's coming. Lol...thanks for watching and commenting 👍
what about Kraken and Captain Morgan Dark Spiced Rum
Who is watching this in January 2021 missing March 2020 when Covid was kind of a thing?
Thanks for the explanation. What do people mean when they say aged rum? Are all dark rum aged? What is the minimum amount of years aged for rum to be considered "aged"?
There are no strict rules for aging like with Whiskey. Also the color doesn’t say anything about it’s age. Most rum are blends of different kinds of rum. Adding molasses or caramel can darken the color. Because a lot of rum are blends, they can take a 1 year old rum and add a bit of a 10 year old rum, and still say 10 years aged.
I think it makes rum interesting because there are so many different flavors.
Rum that is aged
Fred!!! 2oz. Coconut rum, 1oz. Jack, .5 oz. lime juice, shaken, into shot glass or martini glass. Tell me what you think.....
What's its name??
@@MrFredenza No name yet. If you'd like, you can name it...
Ah, the "Neutral Zone"....
If its bar worthy, you name it....
What is medium bodied and full bodied and so?
Bodied means the the amount of sweetness and flavor in the mouth. Rums get there flavor from the oak barrels they are aged in. The longer they are aged, the richer sweeter flavor (body). Great question. Thanks for watching!!
Bacardi Gold is my fave😛
Nice!! Thanks for watching and commenting
Hi, thanks for sharing this video. I want one suggestion from you. I want to make rasin and rum center filled chocolates for my dad's birthday, what king of rum will best suit chocolate and raisin flavour. (*Chocolate is semi sweet 55% cocoa).
Your experience will surely help me.🙏
In my opinion the best rum would be the dark rums. Let me know how it goes!! Thanks for watching and commenting
@@MrFredenza Thanks for reply. Any good brand that I should consider? Will update you on the rum and raisins chocolate 😇. Thanks again and take care.
Myers Dark rum is my favorite....👍
Weird mix of leaving out the helpful information (e.g. distillation method, use of spirits coloring), while randomly adding incorrect information (e.g. the false claims that the color in the rums displayed derives from aging, and that spiced and flavored rums must be aged). Oh yes, and apparently Bacardi is aged in "steel barrels" (whatever those are), before filtration to remove the color - no explanation of how the steel barrels impart color. Maybe rust?
Lmao....well.....thanks for watching anyways. Lol
you say bacardi is stored in steel barrels for 1 year then filtered to remove any color,, that makes no sense was this a mistake on your part? because on there official website they say its aged in chared american oak for 1 year then filtered through a variety of charcoals,, i am assuming the filtration is to imporve taste and perhaps add some but might also be to remove any color imparted by the wood ,
i been trying to figure out how this rum is white after aging in barrels and still doubted that charcoal filtering alone will make it white but perhaps they use large butts that did not impart much color as much as it did flavor , as a distiller myself i can say there is some color filtering happening when using coals but only if done several times and there was very little discoloration to begin with
Rum Zacapa the best!!
Nice

So what kind of rum were the pirates drinking back in the day
Great question...Pirates drank “grog" which is essentially any of a variety of alcoholic beverages but for the most part pirates drank “rum grog" a mixture of watered down rum later with the inclusion of citrus as an aid to help combat scurvy.

“Best types of rum”
chooses captain morgan over sailor jerry.
Lol...yes....thanks for watching and commenting
Black rum?
Yes....I should have been more specific in the dark rum category. Black rum is also known as dark rum and has been aged the longest of any of these types of rum. The extended time it spends in wooden casks gives it a dark color and deep, smoky-sweet flavor.
Thanks for watching and commenting
Captain Morgan is 35% tho
Liqueur....lol. thanks for watching and commenting
over proof all the way baby
Awesome thanks for watching and commenting 👍
Yeah malibu sooooooooooooo bad, like you need a paint thinner
First, let's talk about why in the hell you would drink ANY of the labeled rums in this video. You can do so much better for less coin.
Lol...thanks for watching anyway
what a dire selection. i would walk on by to the next bar
Lmao....thanks for watching anyway.....lol
So much wrong with this sadly
Lol...well thanks for watching anyway...lol
That's the worst rum selection I'd ever seen! Where you got it 711?
YOU DONT HAVE J WRAY & NEPHEW THERE FROM JAMAICA THATS THE BEST RUM EVER😂😂😂
Talk about false information. Fake news? Haha pathetic list.
Lmao...well...thanks for watching anyway....lol
Lets start with Cruzan Black Strap Rum. $$ less than Myers, not overpoweringly sweet and based on the rum served on British Warships in the 17/1800s. Black Seal would be my 2nd choice.
Next, ANY rum out of PR is trash. Pick any white or gold from Jamaica or anywhere in the Caribbean and it will be better than Bacardi. Sure it's okay in a pinch (as they ALL are) but for taste Bacardi is the Miller Lite of Rum.
Captain Morgan is okay but The Kraken is FAR better, less $$ and with a richer more balanced flavor. Hands done, while Malibu is so weak I'd recommend just adding coconut to whatever rum you like.
Lastly, the Don Q 151 is not one I've tasted and frankly rum at that proof is usually more like eating hot peppers than enjoying the taste, but I don't know. Maybe it's the shit and if I see it I will try it and update.
Cheers and have one on me!
Omg..your hired!! Great information!! Thanks for watching and commenting!! 👍👍
