Why and How to Use a Dermaroller to fight Hair Loss!
Hey my Fellow Follicle Frontiersmen! In this video I will explain how dermarolling or microneedling can be used to augment a hair loss regimen that includes finasteride and minoxidil. Of course, derma rolling can be used on it's own and will likely yield limited results dependent on how aggressive your own hair loss is. But it absolutely works best when partnered with finasteride and minoxidil, as is supported by studies on the effect of microneedling on hair regrowth.

My hair began thinning when I turned 27. I freaked out, so I started to do tons of research and tried pretty much everything. The only set of things that had any noticeable effect was:
1. Microneedling with a 1.5mm once a week.
2. Applying rosemary oil to my scalp every night.
When I was using a 0.5mm dermaroller, it maintained the rate of my hair loss. It stopped it from getting worse, but it didn't stop it neither. I maintained a steady loss of about 20-25 hair strands every time I washed my hair.
When I moved to a 1.5mm (what was used in a highly referenced study) micro needling "stamp" and applying rosemary oil every night, my shedding after washing my hair went from 20-25 strands, to less than 5 within a month. With my new routine, the corners of my hairline have started to regrow and my hair loss rate has seriously decreased.
What may work for me, may not work for you. Perhaps 0.5mm is all you need. I hope this helps anyone reading!
Andrew Nguyen how often do you do the derma roller?
@@waynechen7145 Typically once a week.
Andrew Nguyen firstly, I want to thank you for offering such great advice to all of those who watch this video. We need more guys like you sharing good knowledge.
I would like to echo what you said and say go with a 0.5mm and then see what your results are over the course of a few months. It’s an inexpensive option to try and almost everyone can tolerate it.
I’m glad you had such a great outcome. Have you ever talked about in a CZcams video before?
-DJ
I use the derma roller 3 times a week mon-wed-fri with a fenugreek remedy. I started last week. Should i use the derma once a week instead? And since your applying the oil every night, you wash your hair more frequent?
Ada Ada Yeah earlier I lost 10 strands in the entire day and I read it’s normal for men to lose about 50-80 strands per day supposedly. Women lose more than 100
I can't stress enough how important it is to make sure your Dermaroller has REAL needles and not blades!!
Damn. Blades would be a disaster!
😭😭
Wait how do you know if it has needles not blades
Impressive results,great info,continued success !
KB your doing a great job and its a lot of fun to reverse hair loss and to see your consistency pay off god bless.
Just came across your video while looking for info for my husband. I really appreciate how thorough and informative you are. Great video 👌🏽
Thank you for checking my video out, Honey. For the majority of men, thereis really nothing to worry about when it comes to dermarolling, minoxidil, not finasteride. Good luck to your husband and he’s lucky to have a supportive partner helping him along the way!

I'm so happy for you bro! I just ordered mines
I started using the same derma roller on May 17th. I use a shampoo for hair loss and apply a special plant-based serum for hair loss, nothing else, and no Minoxidil. I figured, if I ever get results, I want them to stick, so the process has to be as natural as possible. I derma roll twice a week (0.5mm). I am very surprised. I can see hair growth in the back/middle section of my head. It's amazing. But I need to be patient and wait for like 3 months to be sure of the quality of the new hair.

3:51 2 and half months of dermarolling, using finasteride and monoxodil bro congratz, that shit has improved amazingly well
I currently shave my head everyday, since the bald look really suits me. I've been wanting to grow back some hair in order to have a buzz cut, just to change things up. I have a very bad receding hairline. If I were to dermaroll, can I still shave everyday? I look pretty awkward with letting it grow with how it's receding ATM...
One of the best video I’ve ever seen about derma rolling❤️

Can your hair grow back by only using the derma roller (1mm) and some normal castor oil? Does anyone have experience with this ?
Thank you for all the great content brother!
Just got my derma roller today. I got the one you are using thru your link. I've decided to use Dr. Morse's Upper Body Circulation Tincture and Nettle Root to control DHT naturally and stimulate strong blood flow to the scalp area endogenously while a strong blend of essential oils and derma rolling will stimulate blood flow to the scalp exogenously.
Idk wtf u said but that shit sounded real good and I’m just going to take your advice on that 😂
How did your journey go??
Great video. Thank you for the thorough background info on everything and the technique on how to use the dermaroller.
Dermarolling is great and also basically kept me from quitting Finasteride because I have a rare side effect where Fin causes melasma (hyperpigmentation) on the cheeks, kinda like a pregnant woman would get it during pregnancy when the hormones go crazy. I hope Dermarolling can treat it combined with Vitamin C Serum
Somberlain, that’s a unique side effect for sure. In one of the research studies I referenced for this video discussed the positive outcome of derma rolling and vitamin c serum. I don’t personally have hyperpigmentation; but I’d love to hear about your progress while using it.
-DJ
@@keratinbrotherhood I think it only has a chance to occur for people who have really light skin, that side effect was yet undocumented when I started taking Fin I believe but there are some mentions of it now. It makes sense though, seeing how hormonal changes can cause this in women too. It's known as "mask of pregnancy" because hormonal changes of that degree are normally exclusive to women. I'm gonna report back but it will probably take months to see results, ugh
DJ, I have a 0.25mm derma roller, I have been using it every other day, or every 24hrs. Would I see any progress if I continue with this routine? Should I go for a 0.5mm? And do it every Friday like you suggested? Thank you!!

Yo brother you're an inspiration. I hope all is goin good sir
one question can I apply it on long hair, because I dont want to have a hair cut right now
2nd do i need to wash my hair before applying derma roller
plzz reply
Hi Abishek, welcome to the channel and thank you for your questions.
You can dermaroll with long hair. The recommendation is to wet your hair first to reduce hair tugging, then part the hair is the areas you plan to dermaroll. Dermaroll the exposed scalp and then part the hair in a different area and repeat. It takes longer than short hair, of course. But the principles are the same.
It recommended you wash your hair first to remove any harmful substances from your skin. But if you’re only using a 0.5mm, you could dermaroll without washing. I wouldn’t do that myself. But it is possible.
-DJ
@@keratinbrotherhood
Better to wash the scalp and let it dry before applying derma roller
Anyways thanks for the reply sir...
i have long hair and im dermarolling now~ just use longer needles probably so it get past the hair easily. also u will need to put on more effort by parting your hair manually on parts that are thinning so u can roll on them
Hi Sir, after how long can you stop dermarolling, (once you get vessel hair), for the vessel hair to turn into terminal and thicker hair? Can you get terminal hair from dermarolling?
Hi. Are you still using the roller or not any more? Do you do any preparation to your hair and scalp before you start using the roller each session?
I saw this product about a month ago been contemplating about using it I also use hims and another product for growth I’m guessing I should use it before my other products or is there another way before and after usage

Just wanted to know your thoughts on using bio oil after derma rolling ?
I have a few questions. While rolling, do I have to apply any oil or anything to my hair? Next, after rolling, my scalp will be a little red. Do I need to apply anything to my scalp to heal it like aloe vera gel? Can I wash my hair on that day after rolling?
I been doing this around 6 months. One thing, for aggressive loss in males especially, it is highly likely due to high testosterone. In some countries you can get drug finastride as a blocker but there are side FX, also pumpkin oil does same thing. Biotin is actually a vitamin, not a blocker, for anyone concerned. Minoxidil is useful though for mild hairless and does play a role in prevention further loss. Generally speaking dermarolling is a useful thing in aggressive hairloss. A 0.5mm roller for scalp. 2mm for arms and belly or fat areas in general to tighten skin or stretch marks over time.
there is a diffrence between DHT and testosterone youre spreading false information
Keep up the good work! Your videos are informative and you come across as a solid dude. I've only recently started to apply Rogaine 5% foam on my scalp, it's been a week. Unfortunately i take a high blood pressure medication daily and i find that in conjunction with Rogaine 2x a day i get extremely dizzy. The past two days i have only applied Rogaine once a day and the symptoms are marginally better. I ordered a 0.5mm Derma Roller today and i'm extremely excited. I am not getting my hopes up but its better than nothing. If... and it's a major IF.. i get some decent results in 6-9 months time with the Derma Roller and once a day Rogaine. Do you think applying Rogaine once every other day would be sufficient to maintain?? I know that if you stop Rogaine altogether one will lose all gains by 1-2 months. However.. if one has gotten a "satisfactory" result from Derma + Rogaine. Do you think applying Rogaine once every other day should be enough to maintain? I've googled the efficacy of Rogaine but sadly there really isn't a lot of literature out there.
Hi I've just had a hair transplant last week. I'm not using minoxidil and have decided not to take finasteride either. Just going to take the vitamins the clinic gave me. Would derma rolling by itself work? And how long after the hair transplant can i use it?
The transplant doesn't cover my crown area so can i use it there straight away? Thanks

Is it OK or is it a good idea to derma roll Right now even though I'm keeping my head bald for the summer? I'm thinking I would be prepping my scalp for growth when I start growing it in the fall. is that ok?
I just started the hairmetto program. There is a guy who puts up videos called “the bald truth”. He had great results, but dermarolling is the key...but this is what I was looking for as Imgoing to start finastride and Minixidil in 6 month
Craig, yeah I have seen his video before. It was very thorough and lot of guys seem to be following his advice. Derma rolling is quite effective in most cases; it's surprising that more men aren't trying it.

2. Should I use minoxidil Solution once in week along with derma-rolling or Daily basis ?
3.How many days it took for you to get back your hair?
Could you please answer my question.

Great informative video!
How much pressure do you use when using the dermaroller?
Hello!
By any chance did you had any hair transplant?
And do you experience any side effects from the finasterid?
Ty!!
after your hair grew out and stuff, can you stop minoxidil and just use derma rolling?
Ok so I started minoxidil 7 weeks ago and have seen an improvement. I have seen loads of videos about derma rolling and minoxidil and was wondering if I add derma rolling to my routine will i start to shed again and be back at square 1. I know I'm only 7 weeks in but have gone past the shedding stage and seen lots of vellus hairs come threw and the shedding has stopped. also would like to know is it safe to apply the minoxidil right after derma rolling. any help would be greatly appreciated.
Skills, thank you for your question. Dermarolling should not cause shedding. Minoxidil however, does cause shedding in waves. These waves are unavoidable and some are worse than others. But it sounds like you're in-between sheds, which is a good place to be.
As for applying minox, please wait 24 hours after dermarolling before applying minox. Applying it immediately following a session increases the risk of side effects.
I hope this helps. Consider dropping by my blog for more articles about minox and dermarolling. kbhood.com
Thanks for watching, brother.
-DJ
Same advice wait 24 hours before application. God bless
Question: Could this cause scar tissue and further hairloss IN THE FUTURE, despite having growth for now?
thats a good question. the only thing i recommend is to only use the derma roller 1-2 week if even and to use high quality oils that heal and protect your skin
How long we shoud use it in one session? 10 mins? Or once we cover entire area?
Great video man! Have a questions…can use toppik the morning after I derma roller my head? Thank you! 👍🙏
I just recieved my dermaroller today and I cant figure out how much pressure to use. Im guessing I dont push the whole 1.5mm needles into my head right? Please help
I'm about to buy my 1st Derma roller. I'm thinning in all the areas you are, as well as my temples. Hoping for thicker and fuller hair in 2020.. salute
Any results?
@@ismaileminov5459 Absolutely NOT, unfortunately.. I've accepted my fate, and decided to just use fibers for now. I've been looking into those little tattoos dots that look like hair follicles. Dont know what it's called but it looks like it'll give the illusion of at least a buzz cut. Just need it for the temples and crown.. Good luck..

minoxidal and finastride make me dizzy ,can i use anything else for hair growth?
Hi.. What's recommended usage of derma roller? Once or twice a week?
Great info man. Thank you.
Thank you for watching, Eric!
-DJ
I use forhims and I have to apply minoxidil 2 times a day does that mean i can't use the drum role
Do you need to use Monox or Finasteride? I'm 20 and i have hair a receding hairline, and am thinning and losing hair on my crown? Can i just use a derma roller?
Shahzad, for sure you can add derma rolling by itself. It's a great thing to add to any man's daily hair care regimen I believe. You might see some good results after a couple of months.
I would like to add that all three things: minox, fin, and dermarolling work in different ways and each is augmented by the others. So using any of them in isolation will likely yield lesser results. At least adding minoxidil is recommended.
Thanks for your question!
-DJ
Eat healthy diet with biotin rose mary essential oil and minoxidil
How do you know that it's the dermaroller which is making your hair regrow and not the minoxidil or finasteride ?
There is so many different sizes, how do I know which is the best for me? Do some give faster or better results? Or is there a basic standard size? Thanks for reading the comment.

Thank you for this video, super useful and easy to understand :) I have been using dermaroller for three weeks now, I use the 0.5ml one but I use it 2-3 times/week, good to know that I can use it only once. I also use minoxidil 5% but I use it twice/day even on the day I use dermaroller, but I am going to skip it on the day I use dermaroller from now on. I stopped using finasteride as I unfortunately started to experience side effects. I really hope to get good results as I started using derma roller after I kinda was not getting any good results with my regimen (btw I undergo PRP plasma session once/month) for 7 months now, will the minoxidil twice/day, the shedding has stopped and I feel my hair is just a bit thicker but I don't notice any new hair regrowth (I occasionally notice couple of tiny hairs when I take a close-up pic of my hair) but that's it. I also take biotin+zinc+selenium supplement and use Alpecin caffeine shampoo daily. I hope using the dermaroller is going to boost the results to a satisfactory level as I don't feel I am satisfied with I am getting so far. Appreciate if you have any comments to help in my case and thanks again for this video.
P.S: I subscribed to the channel 🙂 and looking forward to more helpful videos like this one.

After.
hi, can i ask something stupid that I havent understand yet.
I am not going to have or had a hair transplant ever. Can i use only derma roller to see some results? without anything else, products, minoxydil or creams.
Is it possible? My hair just starting thining to the front of my head. Do you think is this going to help at all only derma roller ? Thanks
Fk sorry for the late reply! Yes you can absolutely see results with only a dermaroller. The mechanism by which it works is the body’s own healing process. It will happen with or without creams/minoxidil/or whatever else. Of corpse, using other stuff concurrently will boost the effectiveness, but you most definitely can see result with dermarolling alone.
Thanks for your question!

Thank you for your video. You know what I was doing? I was rolling and putting minoxidil 5% right after. Or I was applying then rolling. Second I rolled everyday and applied garlic right after sometimes. I WAS LOSING IT, it was giving me headaches . But then I saw a video that proved me i was nutts. Dangerous but worked amazingly but short after my hair started to fall again, now I take into consideration these times of videos. Thanks
Do you wash out the castor oil after leaving it overnight with shampoo or rinse your hair with water?
Im trying to grow a beard using Minox, but also using Minox on my head and dermarolling (both face and head) I am around a Norwood 4, pushing 5 - Is there hope for me? I cant use DHT blockers (Fin) because it will stop the facial hair growth (which I need desperately)
I know you said not to use Minoxidil right after I dermaroll,if I do use it right after without side affects will anything happen negatively?
I did dermarolling for the first time and applied biotin. My scalp was itchy afterward. Is that normal? Used a 0.5mm roller.
Do you recommend to do it once a week? or the more the better?
hi , i bought a pack of dermarollers but i don't know how long can i keep them it doesn't say anything on the box but they say don't re-use head , sorry but what does it means ? i bought a whole pack for one use ? is that even possible please explain to me
Thanks man! Any side affects from the fin?
Also, I know us guys hate hearing this but you'd look great with your head shaved. Got sharp jaw lines and can grow facial hair, something I don't have and can't do 😂.
Have you tried using a 1.O length roller? or is that too aggressive?
can I apply rosemary oil after the derma-rolling session? Thanks DJ btw your videos have been very helpful in allaying my fears of trying derma-rolling since I'm already on finasteride...
Yes you can! As long as you dilute it properly, you can apply pretty much any essential oil after dermarolling. Thanks for watching!

Im using 0.5mm dermaroller once a week..how often should I use? weekly once or twice?
Hey i am using the 1mm and im dealing with some bleeding is that okay?
should I use 0.5mm or 1mm?
I saw we have to get advice from a doctor if we use 1mm mm or above
Congrats. Dr Pen is great.
Another good tip for people trying to keep their hair is to get a good shower water filter. They're not that expensive and spare your hair, scalp and skin being pelted by toxicity in the water supply which can be harsh on your scalp and skin. Massaging with a strong steady motion ( not to the point of pain ) with a wooden bristle brush increases blood flow and breaks up calcification in the scalp. Look into a good natural shampoo too that is clean with natural ingredients can only be a good thing towards keeping what hair you have and possible hair regrowth.
this is so true. i have tried and tried telling my friends this and they all think im boujie. but its a THING and it does wonders for your skin too, and eyes. like wow
Do u disinfect before use? Also do u also apply antiseptic on ur hair after use?
I had a friend who derma rolled every 3 days with minoxidil to grow a beard, so i started doing that with my thinning crown and top and is been pretty successful, i believe i use a .7 mm tho
Hay k ponerlo y no apretar cuantos días hay k hacerlo a la semana hay k echarse algun tonico

U have Nicely reviewed man thanks✨✨✨✨
What do you recommend? A 0.5mm or 1.5mm derma roller. I hear people mentioning both these sizes a lot for regrowth. What is the recommended size for the most effective results?
TheArtofWar, good question. The recommended size for in-home use is 0.5mm to 1.5mm, like you mentioned. The dermarolling interval is the most important element, not the size. 0.5mm is okay to use at once every 5 days. I use it once every 7 days because I use Minoxidil on my scalp and I trade an application of min for dermarolling. 1mm and 1.5mm require longer periods of time between sessions; too frequent and there is increased risk of scarring.
I’ve gotten great results from 0.5mm, so I see little reason to go with a higher gauge.
Try it out for yourself and see why you can get at 0.5 or 1mm (twice a month is the interval) before using a 1.5mm. Bigger isn’t always better with diminishing returns.

To be honest, I’ve never tried LLLT before. I have read a study (I can’t recall where I found it) that showed correlation between lllt and hair growth stimulation. When is it safe to apply hair fibres after derma rolling?
How often should I use a 0.5 mm derma roller per week? Can I use 1mm derma roller once a week/month?
Max the study by Singh & Yadav (2016) suggests spreading sessions with 1.5mm our by one month. 0.5mm should be spread by at least 5 days. So I suppose bimonthly is safe for a 1mm.
You can refer to this and the other studies in the video description.

Can we use roller on parts where hair is already present but because of thinning scalp is visible?
Can I use castor oil with microneedling? I mean applying it right away?
I appreciate all the research you did on this topic DJ! Do you think micro-needling could also work for people with bald patches (for example, people who suffer from trichotillomania)? Sounds like an interesting technique, thanks for sharing!
He didn't do any research. He just ripped off all the hard work done by all forum members on the hairlosstalk.com forum.
That’s an interest point of view. Unfortunately you are quite wrong and if you have been following my channel for more than a day, you’d know how hard I work to research what I’m taking about.
Putting your personal attack aside for the moment, the internet is free information. Where did the forum members get “all of their hard work” from? If we suppose your rationale applies equally to everyone, would that mean to say that everyone is wrong for being a secondary source? Should only researchers be able to discuss their findings?
Feel free to peruse my google drive folder that contains all of the studies I used and dig up myself at my university.
And the person you’re commenting on now knows this to be true since she and I attended graduate school together, where we conduct our own research as secondary sources from primary researchers.
Thanks for watching and for your comment.

Hey Nelly! I’ll look into and get back to you. I recall seeing that mentioned in one of the minoxidil studies I used in one of my previous videos.
