Some of the defensive was happier in more attacking/possession football… we’ve gone against that for the last 3 managers and not changed the players to match the change in philosophy

How time flies, Big Ange at tottenham and Arne Slot at liverpool..
On stels point about slot (great analysis btw as always from stel) and his playing style and formation and our defense. What about a 3231 (352 with two DMs and a cam and two strikers) keep that attacking, possession based play style, but with a back three and get Emerson royal in there, Romero in the centre, whoever we bring in for LCB (new player please no dier or lenglet) that way the goalkeeper wouldn't necessarily have to push up between the CBS to avoid getting caught out of position, and where that's not a risk one of the back three could push forward with the rest of the team, probably Emerson or Romero, the back three slides across into a back two and the goalkeeper goes between them imitating what slot done in defense before.

I still think Graham Potter would be a great appointment. His tactics work, he just had managed two teams that couldn't finish. With finishers like Kane, Son, and Kulu when he's in form, I think his system would work very well with our team.
I just doubt we'll get Arne Slot. I think he would rather give at least one more year to Feyenoord just to try to go at the CL with his team that knows his system and his tactics and see if he can win the Eredivisie again and potentially have bigger offers in summer 2024 from bigger clubs. If we can get him, great appointment, but as a Spurs fan I'm used to being let down. But clubs seem to have forgotten about Potter's Brighton just because of his Chelsea run

With Slot, he may want to stay another year and have a go in the Champions league but it may go completely wrong for him and never get another chance for a big move
That's not why. The reason Potter is also undermined is because Brighton also replaced him with a better manager LOL. That's why he's not an attractive proposition anymore. People are more inclined to believe that Brighton's recruitment policies and football philosophy is better than Graham Potter was as a manager. They replaced him immediately with De Zerbi and Brighton's results only got better. Before Potter even became a relevant popular contender for a big job with his 9th place finish with Brighton, Brighton finished 15th and 16th twice. And also Brighton weren't all that great with Potter even in 9th. It was good progression from the last two seasons, but Thomas Frank has already surpassed him with his 2nd season of PL football after promoting Brentford.
And it's not like Potter got Brighton up in the Prem in the first place, it was Chris Hughton who got them here. Thomas Frank has already achieved more points in this season with Brentford (56) than Graham Potter did with his best season at Brighton (51). Plus, there was one point where Brighton lost 6 games in a row in that 9th place season and many times Brighton have struggled to score goals. De Zerbi has gotten Brighton scoring 3+ goals in a lot of matches with players like Undav and Welbeck in the side even after losing Maupay, Trossard, etc. who used to play pretty regularly for Brighton. Simply put he seems to have a better solution for Brighton which makes Potter look mediocre in comparison, especially with how long it took Potter to even get Brighton to become a decent PL side, and the PL side still wasn't as good as what De Zerbi has made them in just a few months. There's no point having the patience to wait for a Graham Potter project to click when that project is probably just going to be top 4 at best. And that wasn't good enough with Pochettino, so why would Spurs settle for another manager to just build them to be a top 4 side?
@Stat Merchant I disagree. just because De Zerbi is a good manager as well, doesn't mean Graham was only good because of Brighton's board or that De Zerbi is better than him. I think they're both just good managers that no one heard of until now. Also, 21-22 Brighton, Potter's Brighton, were a great side throughout the entire season, even without finishers.
I know defence is our main problem, but also creating opportunities for our attackers is a problem we've faced throughout this season. even though his Chelsea and Brighton players wouldn't finish, they made chances all the time. All the time. If Kane was at the end of a lot of those final passes at Chelsea, Potter might be being praised as the next big manager.
i think the football world are too damning or too praising sometimes. just because De Zerbi picked up where potter left off, potter had an overperforming team, de zerbi has an overperforming team, who's to say that means De Zerbi is now better than Potter? Just because he couldn't ignite a room full of overpaid "stars"? Give me a break.
@@thewhitekirby3973 Brighton are finishing 6th this season, Graham Potter would have never gotten Brighton to Europe. At most he would solidify them as a top 10 team and that is it. De Zerbi was doing well at Sassuolo so he wasn't unheard of at all. Sassuolo were comfortably the next besides side in Serie A after the big clubs like the Milans, Juventus, Napoli, Roma, Lazio and Atalanta.
Why would Slot leave a champions league team to join a circus
To be clear Slot was in his last Year on his contract at AZ so he was free to talk with other clubs and AZ were stalling to give him a new contract so he told them he would not extend. Then Mino Raiola told Frank Arnessen the Technical director at Feyenoord his situation, and they met. AZ got mad at him and in the emotion fired him the next day when he showed up for training because they saw Feyenoord as a direct opponent. Even though Feyenoord is by far the bigger club in terms of history, stadium ,fans financially and pull.
This is the Story how it went and AZ is still hurt till this day but admitted that they may have overreacted at the moment to fire him immediately. He is a pep 2.0 great with his player and the media.
(BTW Feyenoord is a much bigger club than Tottenham, y'all just confuse bigger with richer because Tottenham is indeed the richer club between the 2.

We had player like Johan Cruyff ruud gullit, van Persie, Giovanni van bronchorst and gini wijnaldum (last 3 are from our own academy ) just to name a few, like I said y'all confuse richer with bigger because Feyenoord is clearly the bigger club.

Slot (if it is him) will need to work WITH a strong DoF and not FOR him. This is key. We can't have the club signing players the manager doesn't want or hasn't asked for any more. That's a recipe for disaster.

Slot has done at the former club AZ He ends the half season 2020 2nd after 10HAG. Feyenoord signed him before Ajax could sign him. Feyenoord before him was a disaster. That he progres in the Conference league was a surprise. You could see that he build a club to a higher competitive level. Maybe he does this step to soon but he will be a superb manager. The Spurs missed to get 10HAG. This is a second opportunity in 2 years to get a manager who make a team better and settle in the future in the top 4.

I can hardly wait to see the end of the passive footballing crap we've all suffered under Conte all season, and hopefully we'll soon be celebrating the 'Slot Machine'. Some established names will no doubt be moved on and upgraded and new names introduced, but it can't be done over night and I hope fans will give him a chance to get his ideas onto the pitch. I remember Poch at first, was all wrong, but he soon started to get the team to produce the goods.
Conte balls was over criticised he was never given the players he needed and the injury to Bentencur crippled us. However if Arne Slot isn't given a new goalie, CB and possibly an attacking mid he will also struggle.
His closest mates are going to be begging him not to come to North London lol. Why the fuck would someone who is about to break out in his career come to us to just get touched?
So who is going to coach the team mate ?

Richarlison is a top player, he just needs a positive Manager like Marcos Silva. I m glad we re looking for different Managers then the negative resultfocused ones like Conte or Mourinho. But will we fans accept a project manager when the way will be bumpy? For me sucess is every match we play well, I see our players flurish. But I do worry about the system Slot plays which I call suicide football. It didn t go well for Leeds and we also had bad results under Mauricio, where we dominated the match but leaked goals. Dier needs to go, he won t work in such a system and is the root problem of our bad defence recently.
Richarlison lacks the technical ability for a Slot team. He's not a "top player" sorry I have to disagree.

Actually Dier could be very useful in this style. Slot can use him in the same way Stones plays at Cify. Dier is capable of playing in CB but drifting into midfield to act as another defensive mid if need be. He played as a DM under Poch a few times
Remember that Dutch top scorer we bought flopped severely ..Slot will be the same but stel loves a flop ...the premier is a different animal ...I would rather have SID SNOT as manager 🤔

Stel’s five year plan sounds like Brighton!! And they go and find managers & players that fit their plan! Theirs continuation their. Also Liverpool’s boot room culture was like that, training coaches in the club philosophy and hiring from within. Sadly stadium & the brand has been priority it seems at Spurs, so we have never got round to having a 5year plan. And it’s just been hit & miss!! Doesn’t sound like Spurs at all does it😂😂😂 Leicester had it for a few years as well under their late owner. Slot would an exciting coach!! COYS
Unfortunately can't see his attacking style be as successful in the premier league, he's not reinventing the wheel here or it would have been done in the EPL already, did Leeds play in a similar vane last season? Teams will pick our passes apart and hit us on the counter they already do now when we play defensive unambitious football, imagine if we tried playing vertically attacking each play, we can't even hold the ball as is. If he can develop youth players or get more out of the players &play a more entertaining style have I'm all for it. What happens we normally try and correct the faults of the previous style and go too far the other way. Our choice in manager has been bi-polar.

Sorry, Spurs won't suddenly become good with the ball because the coach likes that. We need 6-8 new players to be good with the ball. Dier shanking it, PEH and Skipp having it bounce off them, everyone else misplacing easy passes. Kanes the only one who is genuinely talented at controlling the ball and finding a team mate with it.
I like how stel didn’t mention that slots biggest weakness is that his teams struggle to break down low blocks and rely on crosses

I would have no problem completing you if what you had said was accurate. No mention of his use of inverted full backs or how he tries to isolate his wingers 1v1. Instead you say his full backs push up high.
Levy's idea of "progressive" football is putting up colorful flags in the stadium.
Slot will come in, Spurs will lose the first 4-5 games, will be bottom of the league and Slot will be sacked! He'll lose the dressing room and fans amd the whole atmosphere will be toxic. They'll try the next and next and so following but nothing will work.
