Is Sarah ok? Havent seen her around
To whom it may concern, I do not know Sarah. I'm sure she's lovely and I hope she is well, but I am unable to comment on the whereabouts of Sarah. Regards.
I rule that dagger damage explodes on a 4, so my daggers are more like prison shanks 🗡
genius
Nicking that. Cheers.
OMG this is so elegant and beautiful in its simplicity and actually makes daggers a viable weapon choice in DnD! You sir are just magical! My wife and I were just complaining that RAW daggers are pointless. I also have house rules that daggers don’t have disadvantage in a grapple.
What do you mean by explodes on a 4? Like it does more damage or literally explodes? Sorry, I may be a bit dense lol, but I don’t understand
@@PresidentMystry Exploding dice means you roll it again & add to the total if you rolled the max result. For me, I let it stack if ya keep rolling 4s.
Everyone should talk about Dungeon Crawl Classics all the time.
Noted.
As someone with a 15 pc. Dice set (d3, d4, d5, d6, d7, d8, 2d10s, d12, d16, d20, d24, d30, d60, & d100 [the golf ball]), I would appreciate a video on Dungeon Crawl Classics, or at least a video on those other dice types too!
Also, Tui is a great one, but Eddie is the best! I really enjoy the off-script/blooper moments you show. It keeps me engaged!
The existential breakdown regarding d100 was hilarious.
The struggle is real my friend.
Over 20% of this 11+ minute video was Dex Save Dan trying to figure out the difference between tens and ones and I love him for that.
Tooey the editor hated me for it.
Fun method for using dice as a timer instead of just using it to count down: use two dice and roll them at the top of each round (or turn, or scene, or what ever time increment you want), if the dice show the same number (you roll doubles) what ever event is supposed to happen, well, happens. This will add a little chaos to the timer so your players will have an idea of how long they have to accomplish their goal but not exactly. This is great for tension building especially when dealing with imprecise, non mechanical timers.
Here’s three different ways this can work:
1. Players are pulling off a heist, the rogue is trying to pick the very complex lock on the vault door and needs to pass 3 separate lock picking checks that are increasingly difficult (dc:10, dc:15, and dc:20), and can only attempt one check per round. There’s a pair of guards on patrol and will check the vault room at some point, because they are moving at a semi steady pace they will show up on a roll of doubles on a pair of d10’s. This could mean a fight, this could mean that the players will have to hide, but if the rogue leaves the vault door lock then they will have to start their checks all over again.
2. The players are trying to rescue as many people as they can from burning to death in a city/town in night time siege by a massive dragon that is sweeping back and forth across the sky reigning down fire from above. In this instance I would roll two sets of dice timers: a d6 set that represents the dragon being over the player characters and using its breath weapon every time doubles are rolled, and a d12 set that once doubles are rolled represents the Dragon being satisfied with itself and the destruction it has caused and flying away, thus ending the encounter.
3. The players are in a large building or dungeon or even perhaps a sinking ship that is collapsing around them and the players characters have to escape or die. This is where I might use two separate dice counters; the double dice counter and the regular countdown dice counter. The double dice counter being d4’s to represent the player’s immediate environment cracking and falling apart which may require a skill check or ability save to avoid debris or other obstacles hindering movement. Every time doubles are rolled on the dice the dice counter timer ticks down and I would personally use the same die type for both timers so in this instance it’s a d4. That may seem small with death on the line, but that’s kind of the point. You want the tension to be palpable.
Hopefully this tip has helped some people or inspired you to think about different ways to use the dice that aren’t just damage.
Love this!! Please see above everyone!
I love how 13th Age (which uses the 4th Edition D&D rules, but streamlined) uses your class to decide how much damage your character can do. Take for example: a dagger in the hands of a wizard is crap, but in the hands of the rogue is very deadly.
Great show! And part of why I love your show is: it has a sort of "SPACED" vibe to it (between the filming and the accent) Keep being awesome!
Shhhhh don't tell Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg!
“What’s that in maths?”
I hate maths
Rambo uses a compound bow.
This is correct. Bloody Tooey.
"I don't mean to be patronizing....Or do I?"
Lol, hilarious and entertaining as always! 🔥
But do I?
As a math teacher I can feel your pain when explaining "the maths".
I, I just can't.
Waiting for you to tell them to stack em
Introduced to your channel by the Deficient Master interview, and instantly subbed. Great content! Wish I could subscribe twice!
More interviews to come!! Keep em peeled for the next one!!
I specifically made a ttrpg using a D12 as the primary resolution mechanic just because they are awesome. Another Great video keep it up!
Love to the D12!!
@@DexSaveDan Just wish the standard size was closer to the d20. The d12s feel really little sometimes.
Dice Goblins pale in the shadow of Dice Dragons (the kind with a hoard)
How do you feel about people using their phones to roll dice?
Great video to introduce players to dice!
And more Eddie is always welcome! Love the Eddie photos
d12 is really cool (sorry you're my second) but my favorite probability wise is the d6 (love using it as testing encounters, weather, danger and so on)
d4 is my third because timers are so good!
People do love a d6! d4 is up there for me too.
@@DexSaveDan 😊
ICRPG does dice (and probably everything else) best
Boom!!
2:00 you plan to pickle those? hmm... pickled dice, yum!
Yuuuummm!!
D12 is rightfully reserved for Greataxe, the best weapon.
Won't someone think of the D12?!?!
I like dice
You can never have too many
I'll be honest, I've never been too bothered, but it seems the older I get the more I want more expensive dice. My wife is well 'appy about that.
yeah :-D new video!!!!
... i actually never used any dice except the D20, D6 and the D100 (Shadowrun (only D6), The dark eye (only D20 and D6), Shadow of the Demonlord (only D6 and D20), Call of Cthulhu... well it DOES have additional dice though we mostly didn't fight and just run for our lives *lol*)
Start rolling a D12 in COC see what everyone says. They might think you've gone....... INSANE lololololololololool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@DexSaveDan the evil GM bonus xD
great!
D4s are much more effective if you scatter them on the ground like caltrops instead of rolling damage with them.
This. But, I have a question. D4s, plugs (British Plugs) or Legos? What does more damage??
@@DexSaveDanI'd say Legos are the Platonic ideal which all other deceptively innocuous-looking small objects strive to live up to. Many have tried, and some have come impressively close, but none have ever equaled the damage potential of a single stray Lego block lurking on the carpet.
D4 are a close second I would say. Agreed with all of the above!!!
So let us raise our dice high, in homage and in cheer,
For they are the catalysts, that make our tales appear.
In the realm of TTRPGs, where imagination reigns supreme,
The dice shall forever stand, as symbols of our dream.
Amen
This is lovely!
@@DexSaveDan thanks, my great aunt CharlotteGPT wrote it
Roll a d20 for greatness level
I'm wierd with my d100. I always add the ones die to the result so 30 and 0 would be 40. I just prefer my roll to actually be 1-100 rather than 0-99
it's supposed to represent 10s place and 1s place together. and because it's a die (d100) we know by default that 0 isn't actually a possibility. So the only number in d100 with 0 in the tens place and 0 in the ones place must be 100.
Idk, that's just how i process d100. I'm aware that there are a couple games that use the 0 on a d10 as actually 0, but for most it's a 10, because d10 implies 1-10 by definition (dice almost universally start at 1).
I'm not reliving all this again.
I'm always taken issue with the damage dice for things being bigger for bigger weapons. A skilled fighter with a knife is more deadly than a random child with a great ax, But too many games are just like the damage die is tied to the weapon and not the skill
100% agree with this! But what's more deadly, a fighter with a knife or gorilla with a Tommy gun?
@DexSaveDan
Short answer Gorilla with a Tommy Gun.
Long answer:
Tommy guns are designed for human proportions and if this is a gorilla unfamiliar with the gun they would most likely panic the first time the trigger is pulled due to the sudden loud noise and recoil. That is if the gorilla finger can fit into the trigger space in the first place.
The gorilla might blind fire and hit a few people with the first round of fire but ultimately it would just resort to breaking the person with a knife in half because GORILLA. So the gorilla woth a Tommy gun wins, but not because of the Tommy Gun
The correct answer.
I had the same problem doing my percentile vid
In my head it all makes sense! It's just getting it out of your mouth, you know?!?!
What do you mean IF we want to know more about DCC? Everyone wants to know more! And if you don't know anything about DCC, you need to know!
Point taken and acknowledged
Coyote and Crow use exclusively d12s.
I have NEVER heard of this!! It's on the list.
You are great. So great.
You mean Eddie, right?
@@DexSaveDan Yes, let's say that.
We'll say that.
Got it! The gnome die!
Yes!!
The d12 is actually my favorite lol
Personally I love a d8 but the D12 is a close 2nd.
Check out Me Myself and Die Season 3. He uses a system that mainly uses a d12 for resolution.
Basically, you want to roll as high as possible, under the target number.
Eg. The target is 7.
A roll of 8 is a miss.
A roll of 3 is a hit, but a roll of 5 or 6 is better.
Can't remember how ties are dealt with tho.
Found the Barbarian.
@@DoubleCritFail cleric 😘 it's easier to pick up than a d4 and can be used as a d6 or d4 with a little math.
@@w0197 Less painful to step on than a D4, too.
Lads.
LADS!!! (apart from the D12)
Yes Cluedo use dice
Can confirm this is true.
Thank you!!
I was worried that you were going to roll d% using a single die, which would in fact make this the worst dice video ever.
Will people disagree with this?
