    I just bought two digital torque wrench adaptors 20 - 200Nm 1/2 in drive with 1/4 & 3/8 drive sockets and as above but 1.5 - 30 Nm for bike & car. I gave my traditional torque wrenches to my son as I want more accuracy plus I can see the display setting plus a beep when reached a given torque :)

    For those of you tightening small screws with lower torque specs, I have a video about Felo torque screwdrivers which cover a torque range from 0.6 Nm to 5.4 Nm.

    Pedals are fine even when you don't screw them tightly on, because epicyclic fretting precession will tighten it when pedaling. But it seems that in some case, when there's already some problem, that same precession can completely destroy the thread and stretch the hole in crank arm larger.. instead of tightening. At least I believe that is what happened on my old bike. I had stripped the thread on crank arm a bit, don't remember if it was by overtightening by all my weight, or maybe cross threading it. But it looked still strong and I thought it's fine. And really, it did hold few years, but then failed and quick, I noticed that pedal is lose, re tightened with hand(did not have any tool with me), then could ride maybe 300 more meters and had to tighten it again.. and then again and then the hole in crank arm has got that much larger, that I was searching for some garbage from the side of road, hoping that I can still continue riding by wrapping that between threads.. but that did not help. Even though I was very gentle on that pedal not pushing it. I could ride only maybe 30 meters and then the hole in aluminum has stretched already so much that.. there was nothing to do. I had to ride back home with just one pedal.. platform pedal.

    very cool video! for stuff like bottom brackets and cranks arms back in the day i used to just make sure they were on much tighter then most everything else. Im glad to see i kinda got it right and now i will finally have 2 torque wrenches the bigger one is one the way. Is there anything on a bike that would be more then 75 Nm either way i think the max on mine will be like 200 Nm so Im good i guess.

    The seat post clamp on my aluminum alloy road bike (Planet X RT-58) doesn't have any specification written on it. I tightened it to 6Nm but I could still rotate the seat post, so I went for 7Nm. It doesn't move, but I am not sure if that is the correct torque for it. Any comment or advice on this matter will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi! Peter here! Thanks for such wonderful tips on the settings for newton meters with a standard torque wrench. But I would like to know i if I use a digital torque wrench such as Summit 3/8 Inch how do I set the proper torque value on a Digital Torque Wrench for example 6Nm will show what on the Digital Wrench, etc. Thanks for the help!

    I just use a luggage scale on regular wrench/hex key. It's more precise, when used correctly. It can be used also on both pedals equally well (Most torque wrenches don't work on reversed thread). It's cheaper than torque wrench. I would consider to buy a torque wrench, if I were maintaining some more bikes than my own, or if my time that I spend more with scale and regular wrench, had otherwise greater value, than the cost of a torque wrench..

    Sorry, this is the first video on your channel that i have to dislike. The Information is just way too specific to be any useful. There are just too many different components out there (seat clamps that need 3.5nm of torque, stem bolts that take 12nm and so on).
    But because you are one of the only youtubers that talk about torque (in depth) i recommend you make a Video about tightening patterns or hand tightening (to torque specs). Testing bolts to failiure would be interesting to see, too...

    • @ggannotti
      @ggannotti Před 6 lety

      Reiner I disagree. I've been trying to figure out the whole torque thing after riding for 30 years and always tightening by feel. As the bikes were mostly steel back in the day, it just didn't matter much. Now with newer sensitive advanced materials it matters much more and I bet there are a lot of baby boomers (like me) who are trying to figure this whole torque thing out. I just purchased a Moto Century Pro Ti Disc and was looking for torque info b/c when it arrives as I'll need to assemble.

    • @barefeg
      @barefeg Před 6 lety +1

      Gregory Gannotti I recommend you not to follow this video and rather go to the manufacturers manual to get all the correct torque values for your specific components. Example if using Shimano you can download all the assembly manuals in their website etc.
