- A Canada Day 4K Toronto bike ride heads down the Lower Don River Trail to the Waterfront Trail. The Don River Trail runs along side the Don River and Don Valley Parkway. I enter the trail from Thorncliffe Park Drive into E.T. Seton Park. I find my way past the Distillery District to the Martin Goodman Trail which runs along the waterfront and take that over to Little Norway park where I end the ride. I recorded this just after 2:15 pm on Wednesday, July 1 and the temperature was 26 degrees Celsius (78.8°F). Most of the activities and celebrations for Canada have been cancelled this year thanks to the Coronavirus / Covid-19 pandemic.
0:01 - Thorncliffe Park Drive
1:36 - ET Seton Park
2:42 - Lower Don Recreation Trail
3:21 - Lower Don River Trail
23:07 - West on Mill Street
25:03 - South on Cherry Street
26:52 - West on the Martin Goodman (Waterfront) Trail
40:42 - Arriving at Little Norway Park
Recorded in 4K at 30FPS using a DJI Osmo Action.

Happy Canada Day Johnny nice ride again be careful with those people walking on the bike path thanks.
You're welcome! Of course I'm careful around people on the paths, at no point would I put a pedestrian in danger (if they do something stupid like step out in front of a moving bike without looking that's on them...). Ideally these shared paths should not exist, cyclists and pedestrians need to be on separate paths IMO as when it's busy it gets far too crowded to safely accommodate both.
Thanks for the wonderful post. Drove by these streets in Toronto so many times. Didn't realise how beautiful the bike lanes are. Thanks again. 🙏 Best wishes.
Happy Canada Day!! Great bike riding skills., fun to watch. Thanks
Thanks Christy!
I just started riding again after taking a 15 years hiatus and looking at your videos we take similar paths, I hope to bump into you some day since you and other youtubers inspired me to get out and explore the hidden gems in our city.
That's awesome... keep at it and if you're riding around TO I'm sure we'll cross paths at some point... or at least you'll see yourself in a video lol. Keep it up!
Happy cycling liam. Salam dari Indonesia ladys Cyclis
My absolute favorite trail in Toronto...especially from Edwards Gardens to the Beach! Brings back a lot of memories...love it!
That's a great stretch! Thanks for watching
Just Wow.....
What a nice ride. Thank you. 👍
You're welcome and glad you enjoyed it!@
My wife and I just got our Brompton bikes. Sometime this summer we will begin exploring Toronto’s bike paths. This video is very helpful, thank you.
Your videos are so therapeutic :) I'm experiencing cabin fever cooped indoors and feel so nostalgic for our sunny city! Happy day!
Thanks and glad they're appreciated!
Thanks for taking us along in your rides, Johnny. I miss going outside and seeing the relaxing views. Cheers! 🥂🇵🇭
You're very welcome! You can't do that anymore? :(
@@JohnnyStrides The city is still on lockdown unfortunately. 😑
What an amazing ride nail biting and all oh my I was on the edge lol😅 that black car and all just rolled out in the streets like he alone exists 🤔 thanks again for taking us along this beautiful ride keep them coming may the Lord be with you always 🥰💞🥰
Thanks Denise, there shall be more on the way 👍
Good ride.
Happy Canada Day🎆 So many bikers🚴 Be Careful☺️
Thank you! Indeed being careful is a must.
This looks like a trail I'd thrive on! I've cycled in Calgary and they have very impressive bike trails Canada has great biking! Love Canada!
I'd imagine there's a lot of amazing trails out near Calgary. In fact there's a channel i used to watch that was pretty popular and featured a lot of Alberta mountain biking trail. We've got a beautiful country, all of it!
Wow!!!
Happy Canada Day Johnny. To all Canadians, happy Canada Day!
Thanks Walter and happy 4th of July in advance :)
Good ride
Beautiful looking place awesome nice tour!
👍
Thanks for sharing Canada Day with us. Enjoyed your ride. It makes me think I should get on my bike but all the near misses with cars, people, poor roads!!! On second thought, I’ll stick to walking! Stay safe.
You're very welcome and I'm glad you enjoyed it. I can see the reasons for wanting to stay off the bike, whatever you do stay safe!
great video thank-you
You're welcome!
Amazing infrastructure for cycling! That's nice to know North Amerca has some alternatives to a very widespread daily car usage.
Johnny, found your video's few days ago, we watch about 3 daily, this one absolutely woke me up big time after seeing another video about walking downtown on a Friday night, great video too, but I don't stay up late anymore. Plus I don't get out with a bad leg so the video's are amazing for me, and for so many others not getting out, LOVE the narrated video's, and the CC is appreciated by many. Thank you for doing what you do. There's a great little park with a few houses just North of Riverdale Park, and going through that zoo during the Cabbagetown Festival seeing that river and the bridges, it's amazing. This video will certainly bring Memories back for my Dad who used to bike from Jackson's Point to Waterfront and swim in the Don later 40's early 50's. I do miss the CC in some video's though, I need some kind of earplug to be hooked to the TV for those ones. The 2 most interesting streets for newbies to Toronto, Queen Street, and Mt. Pleasant. We watch CZcams with Netflix, WAYYYY more interesting than any TV shows, I wish more would just watch educational and informational CZcams. Where the Viaduct overcrossing the Valley they used to swim there, and called it Bareassed Beach, that's what the older senior told me. His brother biked from Barrie to Keswick.
Great comments and thanks for sharing! I think the CC should improve a bit as I've since started using a better microphone in my newest videos. Glad you find these of value and you're right about CZcams, I watch it more than Netlfix & Prime these days too!
Good for you Johnny...you only went through one red light at Yonge&queens Quay. I managed to count at least 17 riders go through red lights when you stopped at at red lights.
Happy canada day to you guys 👍
Thanks!
I miss home. I love your vidoes! I watch them from Taiwan🥰
Aww.. Toronto is home? I was in Taiwan last November. It's such a beautiful country and a shining example of democracy done right. Congrats on managing the virus better than any other country! I hope to visit Taiwan again (I've been twice).
Fun af trail
Happpppy Canadaaaa Dayyyy
Thank you!
Happy Canada Day
Nice ride. :-)
IAM waiting sponsership to move in to this beautiful country and start new life
Wish me luck
And hope u all doing well
Beautiful video
That's great and I wish you luck!
3:32 that was a close one 😮! Glad you had it under control ✅💯.
I was anticipating something like that happen. Anytime there's a narrow, blind turn like that it's best to be prepared. Sure enough some idiot was barreling down the middle of the bridge instead of keeping to his right... I really want to know what's going through the heads of others who are so oblivious to everything around them they'll pull stupid crap like that and not learn their lesson the first time they almost kill someone. Oh well.
Well all that matters is that you’re a skilled bike rider hence you can foresee such idiots 💯✅🏆🥇
Started the video on where I live niiice! 😁👍🏼
Hi friend .... Nice trip
Hello 👋
hello Johnny, I never been on the don Valley trail. Thank you for the ride.
You're welcome Sophie!
Happy Canada Day 🎉 Neighbors!
Thank you!
wow
I always watch your videos
And everyday wait for new videos
I appreciate it! Thanks :)

Happy Canada day, wonderful track ride
Thanks! 👍
I was a bike courier in Toronto in the late 90s and when I wasn't working I loved to ride the mountain bike trails that were all through the Don Valley. Just make sure your dog doesn't go in the Don river. Mine did , lost all its fur and almost died.
That's neat. I saw a documentary about Toronto bike couriers that I think was from either the 90's or early 2000's. It was pretty fascinating. Good advice about keeping the pups away from the river. Thanks!
Riding by my place again.0:20mins. Going to take a ride down there this weekend. But go north. My legs are not ready for long rides yet. I hope by the end of Augs.
So you'll head up towards Sunnybrook park? That's a nice path that way. I like jumping onto the trail from Thorncliffe because that drop down into the park is fun (providing the brakes are working fine lol).
When I get to the parking lot I turn right. And that will bring me back the way I came. It's a loop.
Good 'trip'.
Thanks!
Excellent video. Ive watched lots of cycling videos this must rival Holland in number of bicyclists seen! Last time i was in Toronto, 1980 there were no bike lanes and no cyclists that i recall on the streets unless they were waaaay ahead of their time.
Things are getting better here but there's still a long ways to go!
25:04 -- Looks both ways, sees you, steps out anyway. Lol. Looks like there was less traffic on the road at the waterfront area.
Nice catch!
Happy Canada Day! I love to watch your channel. Im from Poland but every summer I visit Toronto nad my mum in Missisuaga. Because of Covid-19 its not possible this year, so its nich to watch your movies and feel a little bit like I was there. Could you cicle once to Port Credit .:) that is where my family lives;)
Thank you! It's much appreciated. I grew up in Port Credit! I'll try to get a video in of that area this summer. I was also hoping to visit your country and go to Energylandia at some point (I love some good rollercoasters) but that will have to wait :(
Great I will be waiting for this movie:) So you need to wait for next year to come to Poland as I’m waiting for visit again Canada 🇨🇦 by the way energylandia is quite shitty if you compare it to Wonderland but they have two world class rollercoasters: Hyperion (what a speed) and wooden Zadra:)
Your good ! You should be in the Tour de France for Canada👍🏻😊
Ha... I would run out of gas as soon as it starts!
Nice ride! your bike is so fast. can u review your bike thank
Hey Johnny, is that a KHS Urban Soul single speed you are riding? I have the same bike (2015 model). Love it.
Indeed it is, it's either a 2014 or 2015 model as well. I've rode the crap out of it, of all the bikes I've ever owned (including some rather expensive road bikes) this is my favourite. I bought mine in 2015 (but it might be a year older model wise). Who needs gears anyway?
I recognize the headset and grips, which are same as mine. I bought the 2015 model in 2016 at Bateman. You are a strong rider 👍. I saw you stop and continue in the middle of the uphill ramp at Seaton Park. This is hard with a SS. I usually have to gather a lot of momentum and can barely make it.
I hope to come to Canada for my University. I really hope I get to make such a ride
Me too😄.. Where are you from?
Hi Johnny what bike do you use??
It also makes me want to record the cycling perspective of my hometown,Now there are lotus flowers blooming in the park pond.
Congratulations to Toronto National Day!
这也让我想录制我家乡的骑行视角,现在公园池塘里盛开着荷花。另外祝贺多伦多国国庆日
Sounds beautiful, what city/town is it?

I'm playing Pink Floyd's, "Echoes" in the background to this video ride.
That's awesome! I have thought about setting videos to music but ultimately it's best to let those who want to do that choose their own tunes.
made a walking trough high park
Sorry you didn't go through a red at Queens Quay and yonge.
No worries :)
That trail is more hair raising that the city streets. So many people all over the trail, riding on the wrong side or two abreast, just standing around adjusting their shorts or walking bikes. Hehe. No awareness whatsoever. Also, people pushing such a hard gear that their swaying momentum makes them stray into the middle of the trail as you pass! I don't know if they know how their gears work, or if they are broken or just can't be bothered to change gear.
ha, great observations and on point. I think gears are a mystery to a lot of people who own geared bikes. I switched to a single speed when I got this bike but I certainly understand how to use them (and not be a jackass on the trails).
can i ride a ebike in bike paths in the parks in toronto?
They aren't but if you're able to pedal one and not use electric power than I believe you can.
Is that a Semi Motor bike XD
Nope! It's a single speed (KHS Urban Soul).
36:24, say hello with her, bro
She is running alone
ha... that would have made for an interesting video.
Just cause she is running alone, makes you think she’s wants to talk to you. Terrible vibes man.
You are worried about copyright infringement , a friend in NZ has not had any problems in the last few years in this same medium .
He/She is very blatant about the music that makes it awesome
Also if this is an issue , could I just record my own music and with no problem give it to you with a disclaimer ? ;)
I love your commentary but maybe little pieces would like a little music ....I really do have a love for Toronto and sometimes being away I stick up for the city , referring to it as my right arm ..Big fan of the Rheostatics and many Toronto bands. I can paint a picture and mood with my guitar .
It's an automatic thing, youtube scans your videos and if there's a copyright match based on the music you will either not be allowed to make the video public or give up all ad revenue to the copyright holder. It's easy enough to edit out, just annoying to re-upload and fix it. It happens to anyone who makes videos like this.
Uploadng someone else's music on YT is like a child taking candy from a stranger. I appreciate the offer but that's a big no-no for CZcamsrs. The rights holder will often turn around and copyright strike the channel and claim their revenue. I'd only be comfortable using a paid service.
Ĺove this trail and i wanna explore more.stay stay.thanks for sharing.giving my full support hooe you do the same my friend.
Thank you and good luck with your channel! I will always watch Toronto cycling videos.
It looks like a proper cycle path, lots of bikes, not sure it's really suitable for pedestrians.
100% agree, but the city calls it a "recreational trail" and even though there's a sidewalk that runs alongside it (and often boardwalks in the beach area) people still insist on walking on it... it's not properly thought out IMO.
waterfront area and the lakeshore area is effing nuts. especially the weekends. normal people, males and females, turn into neanderthals. ride defensively. always yield. look over your shoulders. make eye contact. when riding near cars treat all cars as if there are people ready to get out. always.
This is the sad truth.
Great Toronto bike vids! If you're looking for something more fast-paced in Toronto, check out our channel!
Boring.
