EVERY Ford Raptor Should Come Like This From The Factory!

- In this video I head to Salty Gears Offroad in Salt Lake City, UT to install new rear Icon leaf springs. I went with Option 1 which is advertised to give about 1" height over stock while providing a smoother ride in the rear end of the truck. If you experience any kind of wheel hop or axle wrap in your stock Ford F-150 Raptor, then you should get a new set of rear leaf springs. So far I'm very impressed with the ride quality.

What you got was a better compressive rate spring in the back, making it softer in the light stuff and stiffer as it compresses. You got rid of the block so the twisting force is lessened by the toque of the axel moving on the leafs. Both Icons and Deavers are great ride improvements, but they are only half of the equation. You need track bars to get rid of the hop, once you put those on you’ll see a huge difference in the ride.
Thanks for the info. I think you mean progressive spring rate. And track bars aren't necessary, I eliminated all wheel hop just with the new leaf springs.
@@raptorsofinsta yes, damn auto correct got me. Take it to the dunes or anywhere with some good choppy whoops and you’ll see it’s still there. Take a drive in one with track bars and you’ll better understand the difference. Necessary is a matter of ride taste on the subject. 🤙
Hi ajstar,
I am looking to get rid of the hop on my 2020 f350 dually and someone said after market leaf springs might help along with some new carli shackles… any suggestions??
OG subscriber right here, I've known you longer than I've known Ben haha 😂
Oh hey, you’re the guy that sold me my Raptor! 👊🏼
definitely did the right choice upgrading the ford springs! awesome i did the deavers and the truck instantly felt planted!! i have on backorder fox 3" live valve external bypass coilovers... cant wait!
Yeah it feels super planted now, I’m very impressed. Good call on the fox 3.0! I may or may not have front and rear fox 3.0 going on next week. Stoked!
Put Deavers in mine, night and day difference. The first time my rear tires popped out on the highway nearly gave me a heart attack
I’ve heard great things about deavers too. Yeah idk why they are so bad from the factory, I wish I did this years ago.
It’s been a couple of years since your post can you tell about how it is played out I am about to put Deavers on a 2020 with 100,000 miles on it only been out on a couple of runs did you do the +2 or what? Thank you.
OG subscriber as well! Your Instagram is sick! Love your truck!!!
Thank you thank you! 👊🏼
I got Geiser brothers installed on my 2010 Scab and today I get Deavers 2.5 installed.
Awesome!
Love the video, I look forward to hearing about the new 3.0s!
You and me both! Haha. I'll post the install vid in a few days and will have a review video up after I have them on for a few weeks and have time to really test them.
Dang! I missed the 1k milestone..congrats man, good for you 😎
Thank you! Much appreciated!
You need the Ford performance rear diff cover. Some Ams oil. Mine looks so good. You will love it.
I’ve seen that diff cover it looks awesome!
Now come test out the suspension at utah motorsports park this Saturday march 13th. At the rally cross event. I'll have my raptor out on the track also.
Sounds fun! I’m still getting my suspension dialed in. I have new icon upper arms and a few other things going on next week. Then I can put everything to the test.
Random man sorry, what license plate cover is that? Nice Raptor btw. My 2020 Lead Foot is in for XPEL Stealth after watching your videos. So ready to see it completed. Thanks for everything on here, keep up the bad a** work
Thank you, excited to see your truck once it’s done! I think I got the plate cover from auto zone or something lol.
Love the raptor
have you had any cam phraser problems with it im thinking of buying one but that problem got me thinking
It’s a known issue for all of these trucks. 90% of them will have the issue and Ford will take care of it. I had cam phasers done even when I had it tuned and Ford covered it under warranty.
What a great video!!! Keep up the good work
Thanks!
I’m doing mine next week. Went back and forth between Deaver and Icon. In the end, I went with Icon. I like that I can change the load and lift with the added spring option. About $200 less, but that we negligible. Wondering, did you add the 95226 Bump Stop Spacer? I spoke to an Icon rep who said that it wasn’t necessary on the 2018, but the shop doing my work wants to add it nonetheless.
You’ll love the icon, I’ve been very happy with them! I just did some Camburg bump stop extensions and they seem to work great.
After 8 months, the change was dramatic in ride quality and handling. I did Icon #2 in the back. I did 3” Geisers up front. Also outstanding. As for the bump stop, I went a different direction altogether. I added a Raptor specific Sumo Spring with 2x1” spacers per side and SDHQ bump stop pads. I’ve gotta admit, the ride is game changing. The handling is a full level up. The rear springs do their thing until the Sumos assist and the combination works perfectly.
I've been here since 500 subscribers
Love my OGs!
Hi here from Ben’s
Hello!
Every time I’m doing from around 75mph to 85mph on the highway I feel a shakiness and a bit of a wheel hop and I was wondering if anyone on here knew if this could be the fix on my Raptor I’ve been looking for?
It’s really hard to know your issue without driving your truck. But these trucks do have issues with wheel hop because of the big block they place below the leaf springs from the factory. On the highway over bumps it always felt like my rear end was slipping out. Everyone I know that has gone with new leaf springs has loved them, and wheel hop is eliminated.
From Ben Hardys channel, I have a Gen 1 Roush Raptor
Glad you’re here! I bet your truck is a blast.
Man, the Icon springs are less than half the price of Deavers. I wonder how they compare?
Meanwhile, I also looked at Icon's lift kits for the Raptor. Holy Moley!! Cha Ching..
They’re about the same price as deaver, it’s deceiving haha. The price you see is only for one side not both.
@@raptorsofinsta ahhhh. thanks for that info..
Did you not do bump stops along with that? When you removed the factory block you also lost your strike plate and stock bumps suck.
I’ve got bump extensions going on next week when we make some other big changes. Might do hydraulic bumps down the road but haven’t decided for sure yet.
That blue Ranger looked familiar.
Sweet!
So,question? If you don't want to have that many springs do you have another option to choose from?
after they were done did you keep your old springs?
Yes, I still have them if you're interested.
Time to upgrade your suspension to 3.0 suspension front and rear
Coming sooner than you think... 😏
I've got a 2019, did they do something about that issue? Because i have no problem with wheel hopping..
No, there’s still a big block between the axle and leafs so if it’s not an issue yet it will get worse the more the leafs wear out. My brother in law has a 2020 and he just switched to the same leafs I did. He said it’s night and day difference.
Nice 👍.. did you have to replace your spring bump stops...?
For now we just put on Camburg bump stop extensions. Might do hydraulic bumps later on but haven’t decided yet.
Dever + 4 HD is the only way to go
Deavers are nice but they’re not the only way to go.
Did they do an alignment/did you go get one after or did it all bolt up straight?
Salty Gears is going to do an alignment next week when we make some other big changes 🤫
@@raptorsofinsta looking forward to it! Do you need a new set of U bolts and hardware then? Trying to make sure I have everything on hand for when I do mine.
@@Saintslax29 when you order the icon leafs make sure you order their hardware set. It comes with new U bolts that are big enough for the new springs. You’ll also need bump extensions which I have on order but haven’t installed yet.
@@raptorsofinsta yeah, I guess I meant do you need a second set of U bolts for when they do the alignment
@@Saintslax29 oh gotcha. No, I don’t think so.
Ben sent me.
Ben is the man!
Unless I missed it, which setting did you go with?
I went with option 1, so we installed them the way they come shipped.
@@raptorsofinsta nice. I ordered them a couple days ago. I'm going with option 2, I tow a 7500lb boat in the summer. She needs help
@@MJCExperience They're going to make a huge difference with towing. Good call.
I’m leaning towards the icon rxt springs for my 17 raptor, after having them for a year would you still get them?
I’ve been really happy with the icon leaf springs! I’d recommend them for sure.
What year? My 2020 does not wheel hop.
2018. Give it a few months or take it offroad a few times. Your springs will go to crap real fast haha.
is your raptor lead foot?
Yes it is! With an Xpel stealth wrap.
Did you ever level up the front suspension?
Yes I’ve got Fox 3.0 Factory front and rear which lifted the front a little over stock height.
What’s your wheel and tire set up?
Tires are BFG KM3 35x12.50R17. Wheels are Method 309 Grid 17x8.5, 0 offset.
@@raptorsofinsta thank you
What did you do in order to mess up the factory leaf springs this bad?
Nothing besides some off roading here and there. The factory springs are just really bad. Upgrading them to Icons was a huge difference.
