I thought that this movie was a top seller because of how good it was. I was waiting for a sequel. I just learned it last year that this movie was flopped when it first aired. Megamind is one of the reasons why I liked villains more than heroes.

Also, if you listen to how he spoke to Megamind, he was trying to encourage his former bully victim to rise up, he realized how much of a jerk he was and wanted to help Megamind become a hero in an attempt to make up for the past school issue.

I guess it's trying to show you the effects of perspective. If the story followed Metro Man then you wouldn't understand the struggles of Megamind. You would see Metro Man as the complete, flawless good guy but because we see things from Megamind's perspective it's obvious that Metro Man isn't as golden as we'd like to believe.
The funny thing its I always found the mind awesome. To build things up from only using your intellect and constructing but having superpowers is novelty that can run short sometimes when I think about it.

Going by the parents reactions (and who he grows up to be) it looks like Metroman probably didn't have a very good home life either, even if his circumstances were better materially.

The reason megamind was an absolutely terrible villain is because he wasn’t supposed to be He just had a really unlucky childhood I can relate, if my childhood had been better I wouldn’t have a split personality and four phobias
They probably didn't have the time. Notice how only one escape space-pod was used? It means they weren't ready for it and didn't have an orderly evacuation plan in progress. Or maybe they tried but failed and didn't expect the technology to fail them.

The only thing odd I thought about in this movie was how the super powered family had a better spaceship than the race obviously supposed to have super intellect. Let alone the flight path they chose.
I think the issue was that their planet got sucked in the wormhole first, so it probably screwed up the coordination. So the smartrace baby carrier had to improvise a route.
I like his unexpected, but unique & clever mispronunciation of certain words. And the way he puts a positive spin on his misfortunate situation and his secret, yet genius, ideas is endearing.
Mega Mind could've turned his inventions into a capitalism driven machine. Using his influence and power he could've become a greater person than Metroman.
