Koken (an excellent and innovative Japanese Socketry Manufacturer) invented the wobble extension and they licensed the design out until their patent expired.

I have a 4' 1/2 wobble extension I use specifically for bell housing bolts on 4x4 pickups. Can get 5 of 6 on most of the Ford's from the same exact spot going over the passenger rear corner of the transfer case.

According to another video it was Ko-Kem of Japan who invented the wobble not Snap-On. Great video. Never knew what it was until I watched this. Have a Mercedes with a starter motor under the car and bolts beside the bell housing to remove. Been told to get one of these. Don't know what size though yet.

Sunex wobble extensions and sockets here, 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2". No issues to date. One set of GearWrench wobble sockets, no issues with those either. Use them quite a bit with the impact and a ratchet. The wobble extensions can be a real life saver.

I’m just a normal guy who likes to work on his vehicles whenever I need to. I’m trying to buy Snap On tools via eBay a little at a time because I want the best tools I can get. If there comes a time when the world goes to shit and I can’t get things warranted or what have you, I want to know that my tools will hold up and not break. That’s WHY I buy what I do. Just picked up a 3/8” drive 11” Snap On Locking Wobble extension on eBay today for $38. Hope to get the other two when I can find them as well. Can’t wait to see how it performs! Nice video as well!

My Dad could fix anything mechanical. He could fix things other people had given up on and his tools were mostly junk. Good tools are nice but it is the ability of the mechanic not the price of his tools.

The couple I do have never get used anymore because if I put any pressure on the ratchet or accidentally bump something while getting the socket on a fastener the damn thing would lock into the straight-fixed position! But 3 out of 4 that broke I was able to repurpose by welding the 3/8 end to the spare tire tool u know the rod that lowers the tire down for Chevy, Dodge, Ford. Cause at the time S-K had gone out of business 😩 and I couldn’t get the warranty.

I came back to this video just because me and my coworker ran into the same story. Had to remove exhaust to get the head off a new Yukon and same situation. Deep was too long, shallow would bottom out on stud, and a regular extension to get his impact wouldn’t clear the exhaust. Walked to my toolbox and grabbed my long 3/8 wobble, a 15mm mid length, and got it right out. Funny how things like that happen 👍

Great video, I love the wobble, the Canadian Tire stuff is the MasterCraft brand , lifetime warranty, over the counter exchange if wrench , sockets in stock. Their socket wrenches are like an inch to 1.5 shorter than other brands. Just way too short. Husky from home Depot same lifetime warranty exchange. They're ok, as long as you have a back up just in case the mastercraft breaks. Sears craftsman ok too, but they closed so many locations. I work on German cars and I go for American brand tools. But sometimes I have to go for other brands because they have specialty tools like clutch fan holder tool. Wobble is great, Canadian tire Mastercraft does not have this tool.

I love wobble extensions and as a result used them for everything. Unfortunately even though I’m just an an enthusiast, my most useful Craftsman extension broke within just a couple years. All the torque load cycles eventually caused the detent ball cutout to deform into an elliptical shape. This means the detent ball is permanently depressed. Not sure I can fix it unless maybe I try pounding on it lengthwise with a hammer. I can’t make up my mind if I should buy a whole new set or if they’re just too good to be true. Does anyone know? Maybe Craftsman’s design is poor or there’s a harder material available via another manufacturer

How would you rate or in other words what do you think about the craftsman wobble extensions?

What sort of applications are these good for? I don't think i've ran into a situation where i needed to come in at such a minor angle.

I have GP or Sunex impact wobbles (forgot which). So far with my very limited home use I haven’t broken one. Have any of you used the GP or Sunex impact wobbles a lot? How do they hold up?

  • @LordPadriac
    @LordPadriac Před 3 lety +1

They break because morons that want to use a wobbler for everything use them where better torque is required. Use the right tool for the right job. Wobblers should not be used for really stuck bolts where you need to apply a ton of torque and really lean into it to break it free. I only use the Harbor Freight stuff for hand tools like ratchets. It's all made in the same Chinese factory and I'm not about to pay twenty times what a thing is worth to prove how much of a man I am.
Use the regular extensions, in combination with a universal if you need the angle, and a breaker bar when you need a lot of torque to break a stuck bolt free and the wobbler and a regular ratchet to get it the rest of the way out or on bolts that aren't seized like you're supposed to and you'll be fine. Don't waste money on the over priced Snap-on and Matco crap just to have that brand name on there. Harbor Freight even offers the same hassle free lifetime warranty on hand tools. Just walk in hand them the broken shit if it does break and they give you a new. There's not even any paperwork.

Necessary evil. I like my Sunex impact u joints better, but sometimes it's the perfect angle & length. Only have Harbor Freight though. Am sure Snap-On's version would change my religion.

Anyone seen or own the klutch Universal Joint Impact Socket Set? Just looking for thoughts on it, especially the 59 piece. Not like I really need them all but I'm having to rebuild my tools from scratch

I've never liked wobble extensions. Yes they come in handy in some instances, but 95% of the time you can just put a swivel on it.

Head tech at basically every shop I’ve ever worked at preach that they round bolts and nuts... as such I’ve never ponied up the cash on the Matco truck (my snappy dealer is a dick, so he doesn’t get my cash). Looking for real world experience here... do they round fasteners or is that bs?
