I still can't believe that there was show back in 80s which had all female cast. Where women can talk about their sexuality so openly.
"old" women that too
And about gay rights, and Aids, and many other things that even now people clutch their pearls over.
It's why the shownstill hold up today. Even after the 40 year old references lol
Iâll say this show is the forerunner, that makes us feel like this show is in 2020âs not 1980âs...except their costumes...
People here acting like the 1980s are the middle ages. Just because you weren't born then doesn't mean things didn't happen or people didn't talk and have brains and souls
"I think it's the heat."
"I think it's the gin."
Drop dead savage Dorothy đ€Łđđđ€Łđ€Łđđ€Łđ

Dorothy to Blanche: How long did you wait after George died?
Sophia: Til after the paramedics came! đ
đ€Łđ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł

The writing on this show was truly brilliant. That line is still hilarious 30 years later.
@@jjpp2216 Yesssss!!!
MA!!! lol
The way she broke down TRYING ON SHOES in a sexual way......this woman is indeed GOLDEN.
And Santa and Humpty Dumpty...top tier writing
"COME ON OLD WOMAN! WE NEED SHOES now!!!"
Blanche: "As the Reverend was performing the funeral service, I knew for sure that he wanted me"
Dorothy's reaction was priceless. I just love Blanche!
That was hilarious đ đ đ
Am always surprised how the cup didn't break đ
I know! She snapped at her mom, and then 2 seconds later Blanche especially proved Ma right. đ
Dorothy's facial reactions in EVERY one of these............PRICELESS!!!

Ikr!

She was the master of that. Thatâs why they always sat her at the centre seat at the kitchen table (note that the others would vary their seating). She could play off the lines delivered by either of the other two.
đ€Łđ€Ł Funny as hell... love Dorothy
If Blanche was alive today, she could write wattpads đđđđđ
Bea did her best work with Rue. They feed off each other perfectly.
Yes, their chemistry was impeccable.. đđż
They also worked together on the TV show, Maude. From Ms. Harper Stacey.
They or Hollywood wants to do a reprise or remake of the'85-'92 version of this show only a Black version of it
ABSOLUTELY
Yes, they did.
And they wanted Betty White to play Blanche at first. They got the right one to play Blanche she nailed this role. This was her best acting on this show.
So agree with you!
Yeah, Betty and Rue decided to swap roles because they had already portrayed those roles before.
@@JayJackson1981 They didn't decide it. It was Jay Sandrich, the Pilot director. He did the casting. Rue went to read for "Rose", he saw she was a great actress but not for that role, he noticed the "Blanche" hidden in Rue, asked her to read the role, and decided then and there the switching of roles. Rue was thrilled because that's the part she wanted from the start. Betty, not so much, due that she was willing to do "Blanche", she didn't know who "Rose" was. She learned to love her..
Jay Sandrich had a great eye đđŒ..
Rose played the sexy sassy character on Mamas Family. I think she could have pulled it off but Rue did a fantastic job
Jay Sandrich and Miss Betty White as "Sue Ann Nivens" had already worked together extensively on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" so he had some idea of just how versatile an Actress that She was. Ironically, Miss Betty White was the Minnesota version of "Blanche Deveraux" in Her Character on MTM's Show.đ€đđđ€đâ·đđ„đâïžđđŽđșB.W.
âThe manâs a manâ Cracks me every time

I just love "Blanche" for that reason. Anything she says is all about memories of sex at one time or another.
''It was at that moment, I realised my bosoms had the power to make music'' LMAO.
Didn't Bette Midler win a special Grammy for that? đ
"I waved politely over Bobby Joe's shoulder with my foot." Omg, I'm dead! đ. Absolutely hilarious!
I love how blanche can be sexual and still be classy and a lady all at the same time. I love blanche. She was never vulgar or raunchy.
Correction, Blanche is always Raunchy but Classy.
Sofia: Beat it you 50 year old mattress đđđ

đ€Łđ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
My favorite Sophia line is when she tells Blanche..... " wake up and smell the coffee you fossil" .đđ€Łđ€Ł
Gotta love Sophia
You can tell that Rue almost lost it there lmfao
I love how even many years later this show is still so genuinely funny â„ïž
Same with The Nanny, fresh Prince, Everybody Hates Chris and Becker...you can't immitate quality, talent or originality.... Hmmmmm
If I could, I would watch 100 hours of The Golden Girls than 30 mins of the unfunny, politically motivated drivel that is on TV now.
I've been watching the show since I was 13 years old when it was first run on Saturday nights. Now then I'm approaching that certain age, I think I love it even more because I can so relate to a lot of what they talk about already LOL

Bea Arthur could transmit the equivalent of a ten thousand word monologue in 3 seconds with a roll of the eyes and a turn of the head.
She had the best reactions.
Yes!! As a divorce with my own Stan and mother I love watching her đ
What a legend...â€
My favorite Blanche line isnât in here, but when Dorothy tells her to relax and take a deep breath, and Blanche goes âI always take a deep breath before meeting a man. It thrusts my breasts forwardâ. What a legend.

My all time favorite line as well! đ
LMAO!! YES!!

Sophia also had some funny lines on the show. From Ms. Harper Stacey.
My favorite joke in the whole show was Sophia saying to Blanche, "You're only gonna sit in an inch of water?!" Just perfect brutality! đ
Yeah they seem to have some of the best writers in the business.
đđđđđ
The actress made this all seem so effortless. the voice, the mannerisms, the emotions...she made Blanche into such a sultry being

This show had one of the best and most realistic casts ever. No one could play Blanche but Rue McLanahan.
Blanche: My life is an open book.
Sophia: Your life is an open blouse.

4 of the best anyway..
Don't forget Lucille Ball, Nell Carter, Elizabeth Montgomery, Barbara Eden, Mary Tyler Moore, Carol Burnett, Candice Bergen, Roseanne Barr, Vicki Lawrence, Fran Drescher, Vivian Vance and Jackee!!!!
With the Golden Girls it was the chemistry of all the 4 actresses together, its very hard to have 4 lead actresses on screen all the time and each actress be equal and funny..

Actually, Betty was originally supposed to play Blanche, and Rue was supposed to play Rose. But they both liked each other's characters better. So they switched their characters and scripts. Just a fun fact đ
@@Olivia-sk8iv not exactly.
Yes, the producers and writer had Betty in mind for "Blanche" and Rue for "Rose". When Rue first read the script, she fell in love with "Blanche", but was told by her manager it was for Betty.. She went to audition for "Rose" anyway because she knew it was going to be a great show.. As she was reading "Rose" for Jay Sandrich, the pilot's director, he saw she was marvelous but not for "Rose", he saw the "Blanche" inside her, so asked her to read "Blanche", he liked it a lot, and knew Betty would be an excellent "Rose", so, then and there, he took the decision of switching the roles. It was a surprise for them, a thrilling one for Rue, not so much for Betty, although she got to love "Rose", she was willing to do "Blanche" from the start.. đđż
