With it now being spring and time to give the pond a once over i find that one of my UV bulbs had blown so what was ment to be a quick filter clean and genral service turned into a full day by the pond
Also as i am now getting closer day by day to the 2K mark I would just like to say a massive thank you for your support and help make this mile stone big respect and love to all... Keep smiling ☺

Aup gaz 👍 I used to change my uv bulb every year. Now I change every 6 months but I do leave it on all year now. I've started to care a bit more and guess what got more problems 😢 koi life 😅 🐟

i wont be changing my uv every year ill change it when i loose clarity, untill then ill keep the bulb i have. cant belive how much rubber seals was last time i got them they was 50p. Deffinatly weird seeing such a big fish just up periscoping out the water.
Hello again mate. I was told years ago that the uv will light but it loses it's uv functionality😊 I think Ricky at wholesale koi spoke about it on a chat show😊 I'm not sure 😮
I they definitely do reduce their quality of life but if it’s still enough to keep the pond clear until you lose clarity then replacing makes more sense to me don’t you think ?

After 12 months the bulb won't give out the same rate of UV... They may last longer but won't stop the water turning green. when I first started I used to only change when they blew up..since i was told that fact i change mine every 8-12 months and always keep spares and sleeves, just incase I crack when changing. I also do the change on a carp mat.
Well I’ve just proven that to be a load of BS mate it’s been running over 2 years and has only just blown and stopped keeping the water clear, don’t believe everything you read on google mate 👍🏻
Actually it came from someone with 30+ years experience, his own pond building company and he supplies Japanese koi imports. Since I've followed that advice. No need for cloverleaf -No issues with blanket weed / clarity until now when I left the bulb in longer, because I knew I was doing a full clean out. The bulb had gone slightly brown, which is what I was told to watch for, to know when to change. something to do with the gas inside that causes the UV effect to be weaker and not do its job properly. This will be the 2nd year I've followed the advice. i'll know more after that if it's BS or not. So far it seems to be correct. I've also gone from a 55w UV to 25w. I was sceptical at first but, it's actually working better than the old one. I used to suffer constantly from pea green water, blanket weed even with cloverleaf. Maybe the bulbs are more efficient than 20yrs ago, be interesting to see how we both get along.
@@Carl.B79 it came from someone who makes profit from you buying a replacment mate thats my point, the fact you down graded your UV size shows that even more so, UV does not kill blanket weed as it does pass through your UV it clings to the side of the pond, blanket weed grows due to a hight amount of three main causes: 1 - excessive sunlight, 2 - a high pH and 3 - excess nutrients. Nutrients in pond water, caused by the build-up of organic matter, that act as a food source for the blanket weeds grouth
Just be carefull when dosing bi carb, raise kh and ph very slowly over time as koi, like the rest of the water parameters do not like spikes, perhaps that's why the koi aren't happy 👍
it was added 2 weeks ago and Ive not added any since, I think its more to dfo with temps as yesterday it was snowing in my area and dropped very cold again last night, But I will bear that in mind, thank you
Completely agree lot's to keep us busy but to sit back and enjoy the fish and know we've done our best for them, can't beat it!! 👍🧓

Could the issue be gill irritation from chlorine/chloramines? Test your tap water for Ammonia to determine if chloramines have been added. Problem is chloramines don't gas off like chlorine does so remains in the water column until its physically removed.
We don’t have chloramines in our water supply

I know right that was good going and the pond seemed to stay clear right up until the last week or so, so am guessing it has not been blown very long
