    Have you ever wondered how to help your kiddo build up their head/neck strength?
    Maybe your kiddo is experiencing developmental delay in the area of head/neck control and you want an easy exercise that you can do together while also developing their upper arm muscles and oral motor skills.
    This specific technique/exercise can help with increasing head/neck control, oral motor exploration, arm strength, and motor planning to increase hand to mouth, mouth to hand, and bilateral mouth/hand coordination.
    This is perfect for kiddos who are typically developing in the newborn to 5 month range, kiddos with medical diagnoses of developmental delay, cerebral palsy, seizure disorder, and low tone.

    Hello, my son is a 1 year and 4 months and still doesn’t have head control, not crawling, not walking he sees a physiotherapist, OT and a play time specialist. Please if you can give me tips and tricks so he can be more independent for his age

      HI Blank9360, It's so great that you have your son in physiotherapy, OT, and with a play time specialist. Those providers will be the best experts to talk about additional exercises that are individualized for your son. I love how proactive you are as a parent. If your son is still working on head control and supportive sitting those are the two most important building blocks he'll need before moving on to crawling and walking. It sounds like you're on a tough journey with your boy and I'm sure it is absolutely heart breaking to see him struggle to move independently. Just know that what you are doing on youtube and getting him the support he needs with therapy is the absolute best you can do. If your kiddo is still working on head control some easy adjustments include working on tummy time with his head/shoulders/arms above his pelvis on an incline. If his upper trunk (upper half of his body) is above his hips, it will be easier for him to tolerate. I would encourage you to share any video with your therapists that you find to see if it would be appropriate for your son as well as ask them for additional ideas on how you can continue to help him at home if they haven't given you specific exercises already. I typically give my families three exercises to work on each week and then update them as we go. I hope this helps some but if you would like more indepth information we can always schedule a parent consultation here: drlaurenbaker.clientsecure.me/request/service

      Blank9360, watching your kiddo develop on a timeline that is not what you expected and/or is different than others can be such a different journey than you imagined. Keep loving on your boy and advocating for him with testing, therapy, and other services. You are doing a great job as a parent already being proactive. Sending you lots of love that your kiddo progresses with his movements so you can continue to celebrate small wins with him. Lauren

    Hello Mam my daughter is prematurely born in 7 months and now she one year old but still she is not able to hold her head properly what to do?

    • @DrLaurenBaker
      @DrLaurenBaker  Před 3 lety

      Ajay,
      Thank you so much for your comment. Premature babies have what we call an "adjusted" age due to their shortened time in the womb. Based on what you shared here, at 25 weeks gestation (how long the baby was in the womb), a baby would have an adjusted age of roughly 8-9 months. This calculator can be helpful to increase accuracy for your specific child: neonatal.rti.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=AdjustedAgeCalculator.main
      I would first recommend bringing up your concerns with your child's pediatrician as not having mastered head control by this time, given the information you've shared, requires individualized medical assessment. If you're able to get into a physiotherapist or physical therapist's office for an evaluation I would recommend that as well.
      If you live in a country where that is not possible, my general advice for any baby in this situation is to work on tummy time as much as you can, shooting for up to 60 minutes per day, encourage floor time as much as possible, and limit container use to maximum 2 hours per day (containers include any device that is holding a baby where they are not flat on the floor). In another comment I will add more information for you. Thanks again and good luck with your little one, Lauren

    How many times we should do this exercise daily ???

    • @DrLaurenBaker
      @DrLaurenBaker  Před 3 lety

      Hi Dhoka, I would always recommend working directly with a healthcare provider to tailor it specifically to your kiddo in terms of reps/amount. However, generally, I typically advise once a day of concentrated exercises (5-10 minutes) or mini bouts of exercises throughout the day if your child only tolerates 1-5 reps.
