- This is the 2nd of a series of videos explaining the Major issue with the Roland SPD SX that has only a 2GB SD card installed.
The series explains the issues with that and also the solution to upgrade to 16GB.

Last night while practicing I had a "Memory Error" on the SPD-SX, and I couldn't format the memory card... Not much info about it on the Internet... I was kind of worried as I have a gig tomorrow night. Until I find your video !!
I bought a 10€ 32Go microSD card and started the "surgery" ! The only tricky part was to separate the top part of the SPD from the bottom part ! It took a few minutes but I got it !!
Anyway, everything works fine, I'm relieved !!!

Thanks, worked like a charm! Got a samsung evo 32GB micro sd working ! A 13 euro upgrade. Upgraded the device with the latest Roland 1.8 firmware first!
I replaced with Samsung microSDHC EVO Plus 32GB card. I turn my SPD-SX on and there is nothing! I reopened to check my white ribbon bands were connected properly. They were, then checked the power strip leading to the device, and still nothing!! Do you have ANY SUGGESTIONS.
@@kevinkalka6321 My SPDSX recently developed a common fault I had not heard of. It wouldn't switch on. The fix is to beat a pad while you're pushing the power button. I had to do that for a couple of months (not continually :) and then it went back to normal. Maybe that problem developed in your machine when you took it apart.

hi man. just needed your tutorial because my sx wouldnt show up on my computer. so I just got the card our to do a backup and it worked perfectly. thanks so much! bless ya
Great videos, Thanks for sharing. Worked perfectly for me. I managed to exchange the SD card without disconnecting the white stripes. You can access the SD card from the back of the SDP-SX and have enough space even with the stripes still on. Thanks

really, really great tutorials. all parts are right on, thank you. Have you ever heard of a new SD card also fixing the intermittent and completely annoying loop/click desync issue?
Found a potential fix for that. If you set all your sounds on that particular kit to Mono rather than Poly, it’ll use less system resources. Would reckon that’s more of a ROM memory than a RAM memory thing

But still have one challenge with an spds sx that I’m fixing. When we strike the pads, some of them don’t respond. 2. While playing backing tracks, the pad will either skip or stop playing. Pls I need help
Thanks for this video, it was really useful, although I don't get why 32/64gb is "not recommended" any further info about that? Why it would be "not good"?
Anyway I just put a 16gb MicroSD card I had laying around.
I did not take pictures about the positioning of the ribbon cables and I had to come back to this video to get it right (not the right slots, but the right "ply"), so maybe better listen to the video he got the point!!!
I did not glue the MicroSD card (I'm on lockdown and I don't have the right glue for this matter, only superglue and a kind of slow dry silicone...) but the "locker" seems pretty strong anyway.

I just can't get the case off. I can just about see that there are plastic tabs that have now gone white from stress, from me pulling. I just can't seem to get it open. I'm trying to upgrade as the SPDSX keeps tripping up and/or stopping the backing track when using triggers (yes I'm on 1.0.8). I'm stuck!
I got it. The solution is in looking at the holes at the back. Intuitively you want to pull it towards you, but actually you have to push it away from you, so that it frees the holes for the jacks etc at the back. Basically use the back as a clue! I bent some of the tabs, but none of them snapped off (yet...). Thanks for the videos.

Guys, may I ask your help please. Unexpected rain dropped on my SPD SX. Did not notice at first and I made the mistake to turn it on. It started bugging hard. Did not manage to turn it off properly and I had to get the switch off. Do you know if it is a dead end for the pad ? Anyway to fix it ?

Hello! I checked the filesystem of the original SPD-SX Card and it was FAT32. Anyways when i plugged back on the device it said that memory needed to be formatted, so i dont think it's a big deal!
I changed mine to a 16GB but once I go to check the memory still shows the 4GB. Did I do something incorrectly??
Hello Carlos! I just updated the MicroSD card of mine and i had the same problem, the only thing you have to do is to update it to the last Firmware (1.8) and then it will show 16gb (At least it worked for me!) Let me know if it worked! Kind regards, Joel.

Do you have to format the memory card before you put it in the machine to make it work?
I did, as long as its clean with no other files it should be fine.
Hi, Leigh. Thanks a lot for these videos. I ´ve changed the memory card and all seems to work properly but after replacing the card, SPD SX doesn´t connect to the SPD SX Wave manager, I mean, the connection to the PC works, but the wave manager doesn´t recognize the samples that I load.
I have loaded several samples, but the wave manager doesn´t recognize them. Do you know what could be wrong? Thanks again
Hi. Finally I´ve discovered the problem. I had not updated the Roland to version 1.8. In previous versions, the system doesn´t recognize more than 4 GB. Once the system is updated, everything works perfectly. Thanks.
