Great video , as always
Thanks again! I'm glad you are enjoying the content... :)
I'm an ewelink user and have subscribed to the advanced plan enabling use of carplay for ewlink switches (connected to a vehicle hotspot) I use to operate exterior vehicle lights. My problem is when I'm in areas with no internet service, carplay will stop working since the ewlink device needs a connection to ewlink server hence needs to be online to enable carplay. I could of course use the phone app/bluetooth however its not practical while I'm driving through rough terrain, off road etc. typically areas with no internet service. What can I do?
Hi, I did some hunting in the forums and it would seem that since 3.5.10 local LAN control (devices connected to the same network, in your case your car hotstpot) can be controlled through the CarPlay app. Its inferred that this is automatic, but as you are not seeing this functionality then I would suggest reaching out to the eEwlink technical support to clarify this point.
You can log a ticket at this link help.ewelink.cc/hc/en-us/requests/new
@@smart_home_australia That is not true; carplay feature does not work in LAN only mode; the devices show as offline when network is not connected to the internet. A ticket I logged with ewelink has not resulted in a response despite several reminders. It appears they only permit this feature when connected to their servers due to collecting fees for the feature which I pay for; it clearly states it in a blog response. Carplay scenes although visible, do not operate respective devices when devices are showing offline due to no internet. This is not a long term solution for me when off internet signal.
@@Pinebaron2011 Thanks for responding. I've reached out to my contacts at eWelink link with your question and I'll let you know what they come back with. If you'd like to send me an email on my personal email with your ticket number I'll see if I can get them to respond direct to you.
@@Pinebaron2011 Hi, I got the official response from eWelink,
"Lights operating in LAN mode typically rely on local network connectivity rather than cloud services for control. In the context of eWeLink, LAN mode devices are managed directly through the local network, offering benefits like reduced latency and enhanced privacy. However, cloud-based features like manual scenes(which could be controlled on CarPlay) usually require devices to be connected to the internet through eWeLink's servers. Therefore, devices operating exclusively in LAN mode may not be compatible with cloud-based scenes or other internet-dependent functionalities unless they have dual-mode capability, allowing them to switch between LAN and cloud connections seamlessly. "
So unless your devices are "dual mode" then I think you are out of luck if you dont have internet access. Sorry.
@@smart_home_australia My specific need is an ability to use Carplay Scenes to control devices and the feature needs Internet connectivity. I may have to discard eWlink devices and replace them with Garmin Powerswitch or until something else comes along from a less greedy company. I would not mind paying more upfront for each device if they were fully enabled on LAN.
