I did not make up The Butterfly Project, I am simply sharing what I think might help people; all the credit goes out to the people who started this project
I have been a cutter for over 12 years now and have tried many different ways to sel help from professional to things like this. I am now going to try this. I drew 13 on my arm so far. I am going to try my hardest not to cut. Thank you for sharing this to the world!
I just took a shower and had a knife ready to slit my wrist the knife was too dull..luckily before i grabbed another knife i got back on the computer and i found this..this saved my life tonight and i drew my 1st butterfly and named it after my daughter. i really hope this gets out to more people i posted it on my FB wall. thank you so much.
i got a tattoo of two music clefs forming a heart on my left wrist, where most of my cutting took place. it represents how much music saved me, and that it freed me from the addiction. on august 24th, i'll be 8 months clean. this is such a beautiful project.

I've struggled with emotions, seeing the pain I cause my friends because I thought I was weak. I check this video out and it helped me see I am stronger then what I thought. I am trying to spread the word to my friends who also self-harm. My friends do care about me, even though there are times I don't think it, and I also care about them. I do my hardest to show it. I am thankful for this video and the power of facebook...(: be strong everyone...self-harm isn't the answer neither is suicide
I was a victim of self harm a long time ago. I got over it without the butterfly project but I wish I had known about it before. It would've made everything a lot easier.
I resently got a friend of mine to take up the project and she currently has several butterflies on her arms and legs in sharpie. I have a few too because she felt 'silly' doing it by herself. I hope she gets better like I did. This project is wonderful.
I used to cut. I Couldnt help it. it was an obsession. something i couldnt go a day without.
I almost died..

Now, i've got a butterfly tattoo on my wrist, to let myself know that i overcame my struggle.

you know i really thought this was a crappy idea but i tried it anyway and everytime i struggle with cutting i look down and it reminds me that there ARE people who care about me and that im not alone, and that everytime i cut im not just hurting myself im hurting them as well, so i must admit i think this idea is actually pretty cool, THANKS ALOT!
My Girlfriend just started doing this, I am the proudest boy in the world right now, as she named her first one after me. I love her so much and seeing her suffer through those times has been painful, but now I feel as if she's on the mend and that she can get through this. Incase she see's this I love you Aims, You are the strongest girl I have ever met!
My boyfriend did this for (: helped me out so much. I've gone 2 months without cutting and for me that's a big deal! Stay strong everybody!

A few days ago two girls went around the school getting people to support this project and alot of them put butterflies on their arm to either stop self harm or for support. They didn't know about the part of naming them so I told them that and I tried my best to help out.

As many as you want. I have over a dozen on my arms and people stare at me like I'm crazy. =P
I honestly wouldn't be here if it wasn't for this program. People call it stupid, but honestly I don't care. You can have as many as you want. That is what the Butterfly Project is for. If you already have marks there you can draw the butterfly over the scars/cuts/burns. In a couple of years I am getting a tattoo on my hip of a butterfly. Right now I am using temporary tattoos, Lol. I don't cut anymore. I take my feelings out on drawing and drawing butterflies all over my arm. My arm is covered in butterflies right now, but at least they aren't permanent...
Sweetie... Cuts, have lead people to death. I know a girl who almost died because she cut too deep. She cut into a vein and she is very lucky to be here. She had a very high chance of dying that dreadful night. Name the butterfly after someone else you love. Or just write down a word that inspires you.
I have joined the Butterfly Project and I have two butterflies on my left arm. I named one after my mum, Olivia, and the other after my best friend, Nicole.
This really touched me deeply :)
It worked for e, and i've been cutting since i was 11.
I'm now 17, and i overcame it about 2 months ago, when i normally couldnt go a day without it.
At times, i had butterflies all over me, with marker or a pen..
And sometimes i slipped up and did it anyways.
But after talking myself through it.. I quit.
It doesnt have to be butterflies either, it can be something else you like.
Anything helps. :3

I saw a butterfly on my sister and I started thinkin why did she draw a butterfly?so I looked it up and came across this video and it told me why so I drew a butterfly for a friend she's really special to me so now my arms are full of butterflys for all different people I know who...

i cutted since i was 4 years old and because of the butterfly project i managed to stop a few monthes ago. i am now almost 17.
we are trying to set up a club at bartlett high school to show people they are not alone ever and there are lots of people that do it too

i amdoing the butterfly and it helps cause you dont want to kill a butterfly and when you do ( iv killed three) you feel bad so you try to stop

What if you cut because you love someone who said they loved you, but faked it. I want to stop for them. But they are the reason I do it. It's addicting. It's the only thing that keeps some people from suicide...
