what if i run out of extra rope? can i just use another piece of rope to keep tightening it, should i undo the entire thing and buy a longer piece of rope or should i just replace the skin and use the same rope i have?

Climbing rope will work as long as the gage is 4.mm, it's solid core and non stretch poly.

No. You can't use any rope that has give in it. Climbing rope, paracord, etc. has some give.
