  • This is a quick review and tutorial for how to sound deaden your car for multiple reasons. I do it for car audio but you can do it to any vehicle to improve the experience of riding down the road. In this video I am using US Seal Waterproof Tape you can find it every Home Depot in the plumbing department for $16 a roll.

Some people are saying that this stuff will melt and cause a mess. It's not true. It's works just fine. It's not as good as the real deal when sound deadening but this DOES get the job done on a budget. The speaker sound quality and road noise will be greatly improved.
    It's a Fact.

Used the replacement brand for this from Home depot about a year ago on the rear deck that housed 2 6.5 speakers and Honestly it did tightened up the base. It went on easier than dynamat and was more flexible. No smell, has not melted and positive results. I used a bitumen based sound deadening material all over my doors, floor , roof etc then I used a material on top of that called Tecsound 100, which is used in buildings. It is 10 kilograms per square metre, its really heavy stuff designed to stop noise cold, then there was a trouble spot In the car which I wasn't happy with so I bought a giant sheet of lead flashing tape which weighed like 28kg's and used it under my back seats. Furthermore I have used the tecsound on my arches on the interior and exterior. Closed cell foam all over the car. Used pyramid shaped acoustic foam sheet glued to the underside of the parcel shelf to further reduce boot noise. My car is like a tomb now!! Next will be to modify the suspension top mounts so there's more of a buffer zone on them to reduce vibration from the road!

I respect your opinion but hear me out, I DID THIS AND HIGHLY REGRET IT. read my review if you plan to try this.
In short: I thought the same thing till this made a MESS in my vehicle. Use real auto sound deadening materials in an auto application only.
Explained... Although this seems to be the same stuff as a dynamat or other auto sound deadening product, it is surely not. It''s similar and will work but it has a DIFFERENT mixture of the "rubber TAR" backing designed to melt in the heat a little at a time resulting in a good seal on a home roof but a mess in an automobile.
Installed ON A ROOF it will melt, bleed through, drip and stain your car's interior, headliner, seats, carpet etc.. Installed IN A DOOR, it will melt, drip down and clog the important water drainage holes / vents / areas which were designed to allow water to drain from your car door.
I do highly recommend using sound deadening material and can testify it makes a huge difference in sound quality, I have even competed and won multiple IASCA sound quality competitions, BUT make sure to use a product designed for such use and avoid future issues.

@Roger Hayden , ive been in construction for many years also and have used flashing tape for its intended purposes and as a deadener. Asphalt/rubberized asphalt flashing tape is not forever, niether is butyl, but there is a difference. Rubberized asphalt flashing tape does "ooze". Especially when placed on metal. It works fine for its intended purpose, though.
Butyl is the newer improved version of asphalt based flashing tapes. As in asphalt tapes do not have as great of performance or life as many want to believe.
Since we dont know the thickness of Useal lets make a safe assumption of 50mil (a common thickness for sound deadener).
The 6"x25' roll is about $17 and covers 12.5sqft.
Amazon, silness deaedner, 50mil at 23sqft is about $30.
Silness is butyl and is pretty much the same price.
Why wouldnt you use the product that was developed to replace the asphalt one?

StinkyArmpit Bass still holding up? Thinking about doing this over the weekend.... throwing some in my doors/hatch/roof... would rather spend $120 and get most of it done... budget build, not competing...
