  • In this video I build a wooden / fiberglass canoe starting without any experience. The first part will cover in a timelapse from wood cuts to first fiberglass coat.

This canoe has been built following a project found on woodenboat.com (link at the end of the description); it is a one sheet boat, which means that it can be constructed using a single sheet of okoume wood measuring 125 x 250 cm. The construction technique used is named "stich and glue": after cutting the wood, a copper wire is used to create the hull shape, and then coated with epoxy and fiberglass.

When I do stitch and glue I empty the contents of a caulk tube then refill it with the glue. Applies more evenly and gets into the crevices. After I get the glue on I use a plastic spreader to finish up. Saves time on sanding and makes for a stronger and better appearance. Nice canoe by the way. Hope you get many years of enjoyment from it.

I understand the lower curvature of the lower side panel (follows the shape of the bottom). But how "did you get" the upper curvature. And is the lower curvature of the upper side panel just follow the upper curves of the lower panels ? My guess is no.., since the two panels are bent very differently.
