Tom Lamb, He’s a farmer. And a grain futures expert!!! Thanks for the explanation. Makes loads of sense. Total bummer with the OSR!! Hope you can recover it!!!!! Who’d have thought it would be dry after all the rain!!!! Very flustrating!!
Fascinating farming, great video. I didn't know that it could be too dry to harvest rape. We're battling the weather down here in Kent. The lawns, weeds and hedges are growing fast. The random rain is causing havoc with our landscaping schedule but this is England in the summer! Keep it coming Tom, have a good harvest. James 👍
I remember talking to my old estate manager about that very piece of perspex. They told the dealer to f off and made one. It worked just like the OEM one and was still on it when they sold it.😂
I am enjoying your videos Tom and I work full time for Vision Norfolk our local sight loss charity. I am cycling or using a bus until I get my licence back. Hopefully in August, six months after I had a mini stroke. He
Great video Tom and a good idea with the grain is it like grain futures except you actually have the grain and you are lucky having all those red kites flying around 👍👍
Hi Tom great video, same over hear never thought this year it would be to dry 😅 but we had to stop early and start next morning whist Jew was still down!
I’m surprised you haven’t a misting system fitted in your sheds Tom. Maybe that’s your next project 😂😂. Glad you’re getting some good weather as I’m sitting looking out at the rain.
There’s a pair of kite nesting about 15 miles away from me and it’s amazing to watch them hunt but seeing how many you have flying around? I’m well jell 😊
At that point, I would just try to build a mister system that can activate with a switch with reverse osmosis water. This way, A) Reduce water contaminants. B) Easier. C) Mist tends to absorb faster. The installations of a mister system is just PVC systems drilled with holes. Built similar to an breathing/sniffing smoke alarm. Dunno what it is called in English.
I am starting to wonder how many diverse skills a modern farmer needs? Let alone a you tubing farmer. I thought Furzey was multi taleted! From grains futures to plant servicing architecture to drone flying to botany to underground excavation to media editing. And some farming.
You be careful Tom looking at a premier Tractor like Deere lol. That bloody plastic is expensive, can't you buy a sheet and cut some out? You could even sell some back 😂 ❤
One I saw done to add moisture was Fyson elevator with OSR slowly tipped on to it with a sprayer nozzle sprayer water on to OSR as it passed slow job but successful
Great vid tom! In Canada, and probably all NA i think, rapeseed is called canola. We are about a month or so away from that harvest right now. Few ppl have started the fall wheat but its just getting started. I pulled all my harvest machinery out today, if the combine is ready to work i may try some of my own first of the week. Is that your canola, or someone you buy from?
Trying to workout if the lad with the pressure was serious or you just did it for a laugh. Going to need alot more water adding than that 300 lts per 30 ton lorry load just to raise if 1%. Now you been a cleaver practical guy like you are I am sure you are thinking of how that could be achieved. Very worthwhile if you can do it, selling water at the price of OSR
I always had a question that I wanted to ask a farmer how do you sell your grain do you sell it at Christmas when the grain prices are higher or and is it worth purchasing a barn or silo to store cheap grain in the summer and sell at winter idk if its worth it 😅 I just pondering
Tom, could I please ask have you ever thought about instead of using sheds build some grain silos? Looking at the size of your farm could you fit one or two large bin silos in. Thanks for the posting and I hope harvest goes well for you....
Why is it a problem to be too dry? Might start shelling out in the field if you leave it. And with wheat I suppose you’re just leaving money on the table if you sell it over dry. But they never reject it…
The seeds get too brittle and start shattering while harvasted, thus packing the mechanisms inside the machine. Broken seeds also lose a lot of value. Crushing plants also trouble processing it if it's too dry. They also want to buy seeds ready for processing, without any extra steps. They leave these steps to the farmers.
@@JrHartley-kt3wi Ok ya. Its annoying, you'd think they could add a bit of water to the mix as they are crushing rather than refusing the load... But you are getting paid well for any water you can add without spoilage...
Typical farmers -- always complaining about the weather! "It's too hot! 🥵" "It's too cold! 🥶" "It's too wet! " "It's too dry!" "It's too windy!" It sounds just like our place 🙃! Once again, JCB proving that 90% of the work is just gaining access to the component that has actually failed 🤬!
As for what I've been doing: just puttering around, really. Trying to catch up on all those little jobs that need doing, but are constantly put off because something more urgent crops up. This afternoon I think I'll hook the slasher on to the DB885 and go tidy up along the powerline access track. Get outside and enjoy the sun 🌞.

Farming isn’t easy
@@Tomlamb980 I guess it would be less fun if it was easy!!!
And even m,ore expense, lets hope you have a good harvest to pay for the repairs/maintainence. Fingers crossed for dry weather.

It’s a joke isn’t it
Useful insights. Thanks for sharing! And yes, those treads are mighty impressive. Can almost fit your whole car inside one 😜🍷
Very true!

As Olly wood confirm then quadrax are very good as a tractor pull😂😂😂
I can't imagine how frustrated you must be with the OSR... and the poorly JCB! keep up the good work Tom!
Another great update to life on the farm - OSR too dry, amazing after the weather over the last few months
Yes indeed!
The irony of having too dry crop is kinda comical in a way. Lucky us, I guess, we never had that problem and hope we will never have it.
Over here, OSR harvesting is often hot, we start early morning, stop when it heats up, then start again in the evening.
Hi Tom great video, same over hear never thought this year it would be to dry 😅 but we had to stop early and start next morning whist Jew was still down!
Great work Tom! Although watching made me feel a bit seedy. Seedy! Ha! I’ll see myself out…

It’s hot here now
@@Tomlamb980 you may keep power washing the OSR then Tom. 😂 I never knew that it can be too dry. You’re teaching us something new every time.
Nice to have a look around some different plant, Tom. 👍🏻
Thanks 👍
Hi Tom great video very interesting and informative..why do machine manufacturers make it so difficult to replace parts on them. .
Years ago over dried some barley in a mobile drier,so we put the hose pipe in drier job done
Another great video Tom. 🇮🇪🇮🇪
Thanks 👍

Who'd of thought to dry 😮
Me today I'm cleaning and servicing a unimog snowplough ready for the snow next week 😂
Are you expecting snow

never seen it but have heard of people spraying water on as tilling out trailer its a wierd season cheers lad
Hi Tom, I was wondering how long the farm has been in your family, and apart from agriculture what else do you do as part of your diversification. 👍
Gcs machinery you tube channel did a tour around my farm a couple of weeks ago
@tom lamb, a simple auger flight with a conveyer would mix this with ease

Where/why would you use one of those massive quadtracs over a wheeled tractor?
I've got that tiger tank t shirt😀 still damp in Wales
Wow another Tom Vid fantastic 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
To dry in the UK never thought I would hear those words
Never seen that before as a non farmer. New learning………
One I saw done to add moisture was Fyson elevator with OSR slowly tipped on to it with a sprayer nozzle sprayer water on to OSR as it passed slow job but successful
That’s one way to do it
Love the tiger t-shirt!
Do you have a few cold snacks 🍻 when you get done at night 🌙 😋????☀️😎💪

Mist hose in the roof would be handy

£160 plus vat for a circular bit of perspex...that's outrageous.
Too dry Tom? Christ where I am it’s raining atleast 4 hours a day every day I don’t know how any of the lads can harvest at all this year
Loads going here
12:01 great content a
Bit of sun cream Tom😊
Needed
Tom, would a sprinkler set up help in the barn to spray water as it's tipped and then shoved up?
It’s not very often you have to do this
Tom, could I please ask have you ever thought about instead of using sheds build some grain silos? Looking at the size of your farm could you fit one or two large bin silos in. Thanks for the posting and I hope harvest goes well for you....
We had some many many years ago and sheds are so much easier and can park machinery in them when they are empty
Yeah we’ve done it before several do or put a small sprayer over top 🤣
We do it as the trailer is tipping, tip and let it run out of the tailgate gently and spray it as it’s running out.
Nice

£160??? that's obscene. you could order that custom cut from polycarbonate for less than £50 inc vat
I know they did it for a lot less in the end
Now we're farming
