Fun fact: I was the guy who bought this Subaru in Oregon and drove it back to Wisconsin. I did the snorkel and dual range trans swap(edit: hey you even mentioned the previous owner doing the swap! That’s a me!). Also did the roof rack and the roof visor is an OBS Silverado visor that I cut 6” out of each side(between the mounting flanges). So 12” narrower 😂. I basically eyeballed it and riveted the cut out pieces underneath. Chase must have bondo’ed and painted it since then. Further edit: the lift kit is 1988 accord front springs installed in the rear, stock rear struts(you can use 3rd gen 4runner front struts for heavy duty upgrade) and 1992 ford tempo front springs cut 1 coil off to fit easier in the stock struts.
i bought one off my friend for 250 with 40 thousand miles ,carbureted , wagon it is amazing off road it had normal road tires and 3 of them were flat still havent got it stuck yet very very impressed at how it handles itself offroad
Its really just the toasted bushings that cause it to grind into 5th. If you double clutch its fine. And all the other gears if you hear a noise, its actually the button in the shift knob making a clicking like sound. Its my car! I just use my middle school youthbe still.
My parents bought one when I was a little kid and it was their first new car purchase since I was born. The day they pulled out of the dealer lot, they got T boned and the car was close to being totaled.
Ahhh 😂 my carr How did he get get to like revs? After 3500 power falls Bigger tires will do that Propper size aired to 32 will be faster Ebrake Front wheels*
My Dad had an estate/wagon version in the UK when I was a child... it was called a Subaru DL and HL in the UK... it needed an engine rebuild at 150k miles but lived on in a farm for over 10years... most reliable car I've ever known and as my Dad like to go fishing the 4WD got him out of trouble a few times
Impressive to see one of these still moving under its own power. Early Subarus are a rare sight because they weren't very reliable or rust-proof. I like the mods. This is a car you can beat up off-road and not feel bad about it. A 4x4 sedan or wagon was a weird thing in the 90s, even more so if it was dual range. This car's only real competitor and predecessor was the AMC Eagle.
Ok so rust definitely kills the old loyale’s but reliability is incredible. Many many of these ea82’s are still clocking over 200-300k miles. They’re slow, and they leak oil, but they never die. This exact car being reviewed went off road basically stock aside from 1” taller tires and I went through water over the headlights for a brief second. It still runs great 😂
@@bldontmatter5319you are literally dead wrong. The ea82 is NOT known for head gaskets. Do some research! The ej25 from 1997-2008 was known for it due to the type of material used and being a single layer gasket. The ea82 makes so little power and has lower compression, meaning it doesn’t blow anything ever. It just slowly leaks oil forever.
My friend's parents had a 1990 Loyale basic model like this one. It was green though, and of course didn't have a custom muffler or wood wheel/shift knob.
Hello, I am from New Zealand and I have a1992 Subaru Omega Wagon . It is the same as the Loyal in most ways except my one is carburetted. It has the same 4x4 system but not been raised. It is original as far as i know, Parts are hard to find in NZ, I am looking for a left front park light ,if you know of anything i would be really grateful

You know a transmission is bad when a guy who's driven every manual out there is grinding

That matched wooden shifter and steering wheel set is perfection! 👌Not enough brand new cars still come with full wood steering wheels.
I love absolutely everything about this build.

I've had a few of those GL's, Loyale's, and even a GL-10 Turbo wagon. They were great cars.

What a cool car, I can't remember wanting one so bad!
Subaru Loyale? I thought this was a Kia Telluride!
Really??
Would have been cool if you could have done a little off-roading with it
It’s been off roading. I gotta get together with chase to do some wheeling in my 22re 4runner!

@@j_mars_carsthe major issue is the head gaskets blowing, which subies struggled with until the 2010s if I recall

@justinmarhold6744 my headgaskets leak but externally. 305k miles
I own a 1987 gl 10 turbo wagon I love it currently rebuilding the motor at the moment
My favorite car of his fleet
I own 3 of these and i plan to own more, i love these(mine are GL carb) plus high roof
surprised you never tested off road performance , they really shine
This video makes me want to play Gran Turismo 2 again!

We found a guy making those fake bigfoot/saskwatch foot tracks.
I own a lifted 85 wagon and would love to know which wheel arch extension did the owner use. It looks awesome!

Hey there, wondering what fender flares you have put on your loyal?
Beautiful
Fantastic
Sweet looking subi 👍👍
Can I find one to buy,,I am addicted to Subaru's,,how much?I am in Kenya
Crosstrek brake calipers simple bolt on? Please inform me.
Cool wagon. ❤
Whats the ugly pipe on the passenger side called?
Love it!
you realise that the speedo is calibrated to the factory wheel size? so you probably were going over the speed limit
It's probably not smart to put a Kia badge on it living in Wisconsin. Kia thefts are up 3000% there. Lol
Cool. 😎
Really cool
10:19 but why the kia logo?
The owner works at Kia dealership as a technician
