I became a very recent convert, after dismissing On1 for the longest time. I must say that now that I have seen how powerful On1 is, it will become my go-to platform for editing my pictures. Thank You, Jim, for the brilliant videos you have released so far. Hope to see many more, of course
Thank you so much for watching and yes I will continue to produce videos about On1.
Very good explanation and examples
thank you!
Your dedication to quality shows.
thank you so much!
Downloaded the free trial yesterday, purchased the standard package today! After watching your and Anthony Morganti's videos I found the app to replace my Capture one Express for Sony that was abruptly dropped. Thank you for your thoughtful and very informative videos.
thank you for watching!
Great videos of On1 and really helpful!!
THANKS A LOT
thank you for watching!
Well in local adjustments - masking tab will also allow you to select different parts of the photo for your local adjustments as well as the effect tab.
Oh yes for sure any mask is editable at any time.
Thanks for an absolutely enlightening video. Much appreciated. I will subscribe to your channel
thanks so much for watching!
Thank you Jim for a good video, I’m happy I stumbled across your channel! A ON1 casual user I would say myself for some time . Masking and control , editing of masks is something that mystifies me. The AI masking is pretty good but I find the portrait AI needs some help some times as an example . I’m hoping you will make a series of videos on the usage of the powerful masking tools in ON1 soon !
Thank you again for the good and enjoyable intro video!
The more I play in On1, the better I like it. I still use Luminar quite a lot (because I'm comfortable in it and know what it can do), but On1 has become my first stop for working with RAW photos. I'm looking forward to more tutorials from you about this program.
thanks Theo, glad you are enjoying it and yes it's a great program (and I will continue to cover it for sure)
Another great presentation, Jim. Many thanks. Do you know of a way to make the perfect mask less jumpy? I can hardly control it while I brush.
Hmm that sounds a bit odd, and I don't recall seeing that happen to me. Perhaps check with their support?
Will do. Thanks, Jim.@@JimNix
@@johna.benigno4172 you're welcome
Danke Jim. Grüße aus Deutschland
thank you so much!
Mange tak 🙂 It was very helpfull for a beginner like me.
thanks for watching and glad it was helpful!
Great explanation thank you. You showed how to change the position of each mask. Why does one want to do this?
Thanks and sometimes I find that the Brilliance AI mask is not exactly what I want, so I adjust it. It's just to make sure that my edits apply exactly where I want them to apply.
Jim - another great presentation.. One thing that I do not like with On1 is the way it displays the mask on black and white. I can't really tell how well it has defined the edges. If I remember correctly, Luminar displays the mask in red as an overlay over the image so you can tell how well the edges were defined. Does On1 have anything similar?
I was also confused by the Building Mask you created in this video. Why did the mask vary based on the windows, umbrellas etc?
In the future I would like to see you do a presentation on editing masks. If my memory is right, ON! 2023 had some powerful tools for editing details in masks but I never was able to figure out how to use it.
Hi Steve and you can select Mask>View Mode to see it in red I believe. Regarding the variance in the mask I created, I used the Perfect Brush which continually samples colors under the brush. It's great for edges etc so I used it there because I figured it would do a good job. Yes there are some great tools and I will do some vids on them but it will likely need to be several vids done over time. Thanks!
Great video. I usually never manually modify the local adjustment created by Brilliance AI just in case I want to come back and play with the main Brilliance AI slider. When doing edits on top, I copy and paste the mask created by Brilliance AI into a new local adjustment. Now, watching your video, I'm wondering if my approach isn't overkill. What is your opinion about manually modifying the local adjustment created by Brilliance AI vs create a new one? Thank you so much for sharing.
Thanks so much for watching. What do you mean by "doing edits on top"? I don't see any reason not to just modify the Brilliance AI local adjustment, especially if it doesn't fit what you need exactly.
Hi Jim; Great video... curious about something though. Do you do these edits in ON1 directly out of Finder, or are you calling ON1 from Mylio? The reason I ask, is because you are in the full ON1 Photo RAW 2024, not a plugin. Wondering if you have a workflow for this.
Thanks Marc and yes lately I have been using it standalone. I have been a bit disorganized lately and haven't gotten all my images into Mylio so I've been using apps directly. But I still plan to use Mylio. Thanks.
@@JimNix Thanks Jim! So you must have, or plan to get, the MAX edition which is what I was wondering about.
@@marcrjacobs oh yes, sorry I have the Max Edition
I don't understand anything about this program. I simply try to remove an out of focus branch of a tree, and it doesn't work. I can paint in red and green, but that is it. How to remove? I have no idea.
In Lightroom (version 5), you paint over something to replace with nearby sky, and gone. But not in On1 where I don't find any tool to get rid of that one branch. No matter how many videos I watch. Probably I won't buy it and stick to try to take good pictures in jpeg while I'll use Elements to remove what I don't want. These programs become too complicated for people who didn't study programming.
It sounds like you may be using AI Quick Mask instead of the eraser. Your best bet is to check out their user guide, linked below. Check the Table of Contents and find the section about erasing. It's quite easy in On1. www.on1.com/videos/on1-photo-raw-2024-user-guide/
