I met Johnny Depp once. It wasn't exactly random, but I had not expected to have a conversation with him. he seemed very kind and genuine, maybe even a bit introverted. we are roughly the same age. he was asking a lot of questions about me, my life what I was doing. he seemed genuinely interested. I was struggling to pay bills, going to school, bartending, traveling around the country unnoticed. He had just filmed a movie with Marlon Brando, had fame, money, and could not go anywhere without being asked for autographs or photos taken of him. like I said, I only met him. I would not presume to know him after our 45 minute conversation. but I did sense a sadness to him. of course , everyone has those feelings at one time or another. I remember thinking later that I felt a little bad for him, though he was certainly not looking for any sympathy from me. I can not imagine what it would be like not to be able to live a normal life. Walking my dog. filling up my gas tank. shopping for groceries. he has to have his break up on public tv. this is not a murder trial.Fame is not a switch that you can just turn off when you want. it is a life sentence.

By either showing they are incompetent (the accountant) or show they are biased ("he's your boss and you do what he wants") and their testimony is not be trusted, like the psychologist and the bodyguard. In this case they keep firing questions twisted in different ways about the situation in the hopes he slips up amidst the barrage and makes contradictory answers: "you grabbed him and he pulled free" as opposed to him letting Johnny go, but if he says yes accidentally than that is a change in the story the lawyer steered him in to.

The bodyguard was Scottish and I'm Irish. The way he answered the questions was exact and perfectly truthful. For example the question about "he's your boss so you had to let him go" was answered no because just because someone is your boss does not mean you HAVE TO be nice or do anything. Your question was answered specifically.
I understand why he said no directly to some of your last silly questions. He didn't force his way out of his grip. JD said he wanted a few more minutes and was pulling a bit so he let him go. You're expected to/basically required to ask leading questions on cross because the witness is hostile to you. On direct they're assumed to be friendly so you need to only prompt them to tell the story.

Most people when they go to trial are prepped extensively by attorneys for what to say, wear, act, and emote. I'm guessing that her lawyer said that she needs to have really muted reactions, and just look serious / concerned, and attentive. If she were reacting in a bigger way, it could go poorly for her defense - so I think this is just her listening to whatever the lawyers drilled before trial. Big nonos for her right now are - smiling, laughter, incredulity, eye rolling, anything like that I bet would not endear her to the jury so she's probably keeping a lid on things for strategic purposes.
You're right, though, the effect is kind of off putting, because I think people can tell she is straining a bit to hold that seriousness or unreactivity

From what I understand, that is actually standard practice. Lawyers can only ask questions when examining a witness, this means if they want to tell a story to the jury they have to tell that story in questions. So they try to elicit a yes or no answer from their witness by turning a their statement about what happened, into a yes or no questions. That being said, this guy is a total jack off x )
