James I have had lots of theses engines .These 855 are the most dependable and easiest motors to fix on the side of the road . Do not ask me how i know . started Trucking in the early 70s and owned many big cams . What i would like to point out to you is one of the reasons these engines failed. I could not keep the top end set on one of the 400 big cams would set it up would run clean for a bit then smoke again bent push tubes and changed injectors and had pump gone over twice also checked cam timing . After knocking my head on the wall i started going through the trouble shooting with a friend of mine and what we came up with is the front balancer or damper . 100 bucks at that time Wow Fixed IT After that every bearing change the big cams also got a balancer or damper which ever one you want to call it . Enjoy your show it makes me want to rebuild another old K W or Freight liner In my 70s now and Wife told me NO MORE TRUCKS she never complained about me and TRUCKING in the 50 plus years Butt when she SPOKE THIS TIME I LISTENED LOL 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃

Ya the surge worked its way out. This pt pump isn’t correct for this engine and it’s been shelved for quite a while. I’ll be looking to rebuild a pump for it

A leak test is more valuable , determining where the leaks are originating . Mic the big ends rods for roundness , ud be suprized how many aren’t round ,plastic gauge Dosnt work as well . . Light inertia wheel ,with clutch and pressure plate installed ,will run smooth. Spec he oil pump or replace it . Only suggestions from 60yrs of this !

Hey next time your at the scrap yard get some truck frame cut 2 peices 2n1/2 or so punch 4 holes and bolt them 2 the rear motor mount pads on the flywheel housing

Hi James sounds like she’s a runner! Definitely want to use a gasket on that cover, who knows how hard that’ll be to get to with the way that engine goes into that truck. Sideways if I remember right. They sure made those Fords hard to do some stuff on. Looked like that bolt came right out. I noticed that seems to surge at idle maybe needs adjustments. It’s coming along tho either way. Can’t wait to see it back in, hopefully the transmission is good. Stay safe

I think so too. It’s kinda hard to beat a K100. But I do love the freightliner the way it leans back at the mid point of the front end

It can have a broken piston cooler nozzle, that will lower the oil pressure.

Don't they say the piston cooling nozzles are plastic and break off which can cause low oil psi. U might change those.
