It was a ridiculous idea from the start. Travel to the edge of the earth to see one of the planetâs rarest events- a total solar eclipse in the Arctic. Faced with the likely reality of bad weather obscuring the sun and having to battle frigid, arctic temperatures and winds, the odds did not favor success. Despite this the Salomon Freeski TV team and set out on an expedition to realize photographer, Reuben Krabbeâs grand vision to capture a single unique image- one of skiing during a solar eclipse. Persistence, preparation and a positive attitude was a guarantee of nothing as March 20th, 2015, dawned. The fate of the expeditionâs goal would rest entirely in the hands of the weather gods.

Love how unbelievably stoked the guys are when the eclipse finally happens. After the hellish journey it all pays off!
As we were studying eclipses (and climate change, Pangea reference as well) I showed this to my students as inspiration and to bring a real life example of passion, perseverance and inspiration into my classroom (a couple of fast forward, mute :) Connecting knowledge with real world cool application, throw in the great music selection and just, THANKS!!!!
Speaking as an amateur photographer, the mere logistics of getting a shot like that boggle the mind. A herculean effort by the entire crew to get a once-in-a-lifetime shot. I humbly tip my hat to everyone involved.
the cinematography in this film is astonishing - to be able to capture a moment like that eclipse in such a beautiful way is life goals for any filmmaker

(i really liked the whole thing. i learned soemthing here. the bigger the stake. it's a stronger ending with a bang. And, in this case, it was eclipse. and it was epic) (They should have this kind of ski series on netflix.)
