  • So originally, I was planning on filming the Niles 1003 in HD, but had my ride back out at the last second, later I found out that Bill (Amtrak3501) was at the 1003 and kind of upset I couldn't meet him. But anyway, here is a 4004 in Harwood Heights, IL. I have filmed this siren before but decided to redo it in HD. Enjoy!

      Reading and listening to that, it sounds like one of the sirens in the siren system of the wps-4004 receiving bad DTMF codes.

    When the siren head is facing away from the camcorder the voice is really quiet, I was expecting it to be louder for some reason, probably because in so many other siren test videos I've seen there's little volume difference when the siren faces away from the camera compared to when it's pointing at the camera. Does the siren send a command back to the control station to tell the controller that it's finished playing the message or rotating?

    @TspesVladD Před 9 lety +6

    Nice video! That's a good 4004. There are some sirens heard in the beginning prior to the voice activating. Also, it sounds like there is an ACA Allertor or a dual-toned penetrator sounding and winding down while the 4004 is sounding. Do you hear that too?

      @ChicagoSirens  Před 9 lety +2

      +John Porter That's the nearby Chicago 2001. It has dying batteries so it's low toned. It could also be Elmwood Parks Allertor, but I'm pretty sure it's the 2001.

  • @TheRealArtimusKnight
    @TheRealArtimusKnight Před 5 lety +4

    Are these automated or manually operated sirens? What I mean is are they turned on and automated for dialup, rotation and siren, or is there a crew operating each siren?

    • @publicweather9633
      @publicweather9633 Před 5 lety +1

      All outdoor warning siren systems in one system are typically activated from a central location, all at once. In systems I've seen, they're activated by a person, but a Whelen system like the one you see here, is sort of a combination of automatic and manual. In this case, a person designated to run the system pushes a button, called a "hot-key", on a console called an encoder. The encoder will automatically put out the DTMF command strings at the programmed time intervals and automatically reset the system and itself. So in short, in the case of this Whelen system, a person has to activate it but it does it's thing and resets itself.
