    1 hour live stream test: czcams.com/users/liveUtSvkF64d6w
    The ring contains 64 dominos. A ramp runs along the inside of the ring, opposite the falling dominos, to lift them back up. A Mindstorms EV3 is used to monitor and control the speed of the ramp so that it matches the falling dominos.

      By my count he could do a rainbow of 14 colors without it looking weird. The other colors are too light or too dark. The problem is a lot of the colors I used probably don't come in the bricks required.
      I used Red, Orange, Bright Light Orange, Yellow, Neon Yellow, Lime, Bright Green, Green, Dark Turquoise, Medium Azure, Dark Azure, Blue, Dark Purple, Magenta.

      It's possible if you use small pieces and have one or few dominos be made of two colors. Something what pixel artists do.

      The UI element you refer to is known as a spinner, throbber, or indefinite progress indicator. Their purpose is to indicate your machine is not frozen, although the result is not ready. Same thing with disk or network activity lights. The other side of this would be a "watchdog timer" (or impatient user), which aborts a process (timing out) if it's not showing enough signs of activity.

    Considering the ramp runs on train tracks I'm wondering if other shapes besides a circle are possible, but that'd involve a pretty thorough redesign of the system with driving motors on the ramp-train itself controlled remotely by the mindstorms unit.

    • @0LoneTech
      @0LoneTech Před 9 měsíci +10

      Yes, it's possible. Also, the Powered Up hubs used in current Lego train sets are programmable and communicate via radio, so you don't need specifically Mindstorms. The train motor doesn't have the rotation sensor to know its speed precisely, but this design uses feedback from the flag, so that's not critical.
      Power Functions trains can also be remote controlled, but with less precision, so you might need frequent checkpoints to keep them from running into the falling wave.

    As I can see bricks consist of many pieces. You could make a fake gradient by mixing some of the colors of bricks in rainbow
    F.ex. First red brick is fully red, next one has one orange part, next one has 2 orange parts, ... next only 2 parts red, 1 part red, fully orange.
    And then continue until full set is colored in such gradient!
    In any way, thank you for those experiments! Especially 2 simultanious waves. Such satisfaction😊

    would be interesting if you made the whole build itself rotate at the same speed as the arm lifts the dominoes, so the point of falling/lifting would "stay in place" from the perspective of the camera, then maybe the version with rainbow colors would also look more satisfying as they would "flow" into one another in a way... not sure if it would work as easily as I imagine, but definitely could look cool
