"It's like punk... but it's more technical"
That's probably the best way someone could describe post-hardcore.
Loved the reaction. A lot of people don’t care for Jordan’s vocals but his words are poetry. Sadly this was a true story of a friend of a friend losing their kid in Grand Rapids, it’s the first of three straight heart wrenching stories on the album Wildlife that really makes you think about things. They’ve got a wide range of stuff, would love a New storms for older lovers reaction off their first full length album.
Two members of the band actually worked in a store on the street where the shooting happened. Jordan said about how it reminded him of the brutality of life.
never seen the channel before but gotta respect a man who lights up at THE EXACT RIGHT TIME
This whole album is incredible really
Edit: also this is a true story, I want to say it was in Grand Rapids. Played out exactly as the song said.
Like "35"
Chills every time I hear it. La Dispute is vastly underrated.
You upload this band, I will watch it.
This whole album. 🔥
This song is based off a real shooting:
"A drive by shooting in Grand Rapids. A 20 y/o named Kyle Keenan shot a 16 y/o named David Witherspoon. Kyle was trying to shoot someone from a rival gang (one of David's friends.) when they got off the bus. David was walking with his friends then shots were fired and the one bullet that hit someone hit David, who had nothing to do with the gangs. Kyle fled the scene and went to a hotel with his friend, and was safe until someone recognized him. they called the police and they arrived at the hotel, arrested an accomplice trying to get away from the hotel, and went after Kyle. Kyle then locked himself in the room and called his family, asking if he could still get into heaven if he killed himself, and he ended up shooting himself."
You Ascendant by them is insane and lyrically one of my favorite songs ever
Oh man you’re so lucky to get to discover La Dispute this late! Pro tip: FIRST listen to the full album before jumping into a song; their albums are pretty anthological/full-pieces so it’s best to listen to the whole story altogether.
Also, regarding the ending: you had the intended response. La Dispute uses sound and story as one stream; in order for the song to hit its final crescendo, the story would also need to end. And the narrator explicitly leaves “before the end” occurs, hence the abrupt, hurried end to the song.
Love the reaction - subbed
My daughter introduced me to LA Dispute's music in 2010 it was SUCH SMALL HANDS & then song after song I was just amazed so unique ,poetic lyrics with a delivery badass & thought provoking & don't get me started on the instrumental aspects🤯 .they are truly 💯% UNIQUE ,I've found people either love or hate them,I obviously LOVE them,EACH song so deep & I too love the change ups, 1 verse is posted in my social media bios bcuz it hits home for me...& I keep falling for the future after tripping on the past,And I am always tearing sutures out to make the anguish last (The last lost Continent)...like DAMN. I listen to mostly Alt Rock, punk, post punk, grunge nu metal metalcore, I hate genre's/categories for music the days but La Dispute is 1 of a kind, ahead of their time & love that about them,I bet u got lost for hours track after track & your reaction & description was so honest & refreshing I just adore that, thank you ,this is n
you gotta listen to the combo of nobody not even the rain and such small hands if you haven't already
two songs by them that perfectly blend into one
You should check out the album “is survived by” by touché amoré
Dude I had the same reaction! All their songs are like that. True stories also. New Storms is another fav
It's so cool to see how receptive you were to the band with this song, their whole discography is amazing
if you want a couple other songs of theirs to check out i'd definitely recommend the songs I see Everything and The Last Lost Continent but like another said the whole album King Park is from is great and you probably wouldn't regret it if you checked it out
This song brings me back down to earth and makes me realize how lucky i am.
Great song with a big message.
la dispute are amazing storytellers they paint a canvas and take you to that place and moment
This entire album is fucking heart wrenching. “I see everything” ripped my heart and soul from my body
I See Everything absolutely fucking broke me first time I heard it, I burst into floods of tears when it got to January 19th... iykyk
The end of king park gives me goosebumps everytime, and I can't listen to I see everything without running the risk of crying.
You should check out silent planet if you haven’t already, anything from panic room, nervosa, northern fires, the new eternity. All so great
+1 for silent planet, the goats for real. Panic room or native blood would be great tracks to check out
i'd definitely also recommend said the king to the river
really the whole album "somewhere at the bottom of the river between vega and altair" is a masterpiece
I See Everything next!
I'd love you to check out a band called 'Gnome' and their song wenceslas please.
Hey I know I'm quite late to the party but if you ever happen to see this comment, well... If you like that kind of storytelling, you should definitely try "White Oak Doors" by Defeater, obviously with the lyrics, in a more melodic hardcore vibe. The tension building within this track is special.
Love me some Midwest emo lol
