Hey thanks for posting this tut very helpful. Just a few notes to add for others. I used your technique utilizing the socket as the initial driver and split the bushing. Got around this using the following formula. Take a 14mm socket and drop the 13mm nut that is on the solenoid inside, this fits perfectly against the bushing which now will be far enough out of the socket for the initial drift. Wrap a little tape around the edge of the socket so the bushing can't fall into the flywheel casing. Tap that into place and then reverse the socket to finish tapping it in place. Also on my engine which is a 74 1600, the tap needed for the job is 7/16ths. Cheers!
I got my engine out already and I can see a lot of grind stuff stuck near the bushing side. Since my engine is already out, I assume I can tap and hammer it from the engine side towards the front, right? Im scared to crack or damage the bellhousing or tranny case
Nice, I'm changing bushing after work today, thanks!

THANK YOU for the clever fix!
Got the pilot bearing out using a metric tap.
What size tap did you use? I need to do the same to my Bus.

What size was the tap, I’m having trouble finding the right size
I used a 1/4 inch pipe tap. Pipe tap has the tapered fit to lock right on to that thing. I have the pipe tap set from HF. thanks for watching.
Yeah they don’t come “easy”
I used a 13mm and it just tapped the bush. Bush is like well stuck in cant budge it 😡
