2 Steam Trains, Thomas The Tank Engine Stack Talk & Amtrak Knocking Down The Signal At 100mph

- Real Coal Burning Steam Locomotive Thomas The Tank Engine Pulling 8 Large Railcars! Strasburg Railroad Steam Engine #89 At Railroad Crossings In Strasburg Pennsylvania. Fast Amtrak Knocks Down The Signal and gives train horn salute to the railfans. Listen to the stack talk on Thomas as he approaches the railroad crossing at the park. We also see a spring switch ( SS ) and learn how they work. Spring switches automatically switch back to the mainline as the train passes from the siding to the main. This saves time and work. Norfolk Southern Railroad actually has spring switches on their main lines. I have seen them in southern Indiana. There is a spring switch on NS near Georgetown, Indiana on the line that goes into Louisville and down to Danville, Kentucky.
Look how fast Amtrak is booking in this video! I got them at Paradise, Pennsylvania at the interchange with Strasburg Railroad. We got an awesome train horn salute and then notice the signal drop from green to red as Amtrak passes it. This is called "knocking down the signal" in railroad jargon. Right after Amtrak passed it started raining. I wanted to film Thomas run around his train and then couple back on for the trip back to Strasburg. It was raining so hard that my camera got wet and I was having difficulty operating the camera. Wet camera and wet fingers don't go together very well.

When my daughter was 7, we took her to North Carolina to ride and experience the Thomas the Tank Engine experience. We got to ride in the cupola of a caboose on that train. My daughter is 21 now and goes to UGA for her college years. Thanks for bringing back some memories for us JT!

I actually left a couple days early due to the rain. I got some good stuff on the way back trying to avoid the heavy rain. It was really bad last year

They do have a little yard in Paradise which the public can not see. They have a diesel engine pick-up cars for Strasburg city at the yard.

The weather did not cooperate with you at Paradise, Pennsylvania to allow you to show us how Thomas the Tank Engine couples back on the passenger cars to bring the train back to Strasburg, Pennsylvania. That Amtrak passenger train was speeding to its next stop on the electrified portion of the Amtrak line.

It is a nice ride. It goes to the Amtrak line and back. I did film an NS train switching at the interchange one time which was rare. But yes, I recommend the ride

Very nice. I've been on the Strasburg Railroad numerous times (my maternal grandmother lived in Lancaster County), and credit that railroad, along with a certain blue tank engine, with instilling a deep passion for trains and railroads within me.

FYI, the Strassburg RR latest stats says they handled 500 freight car loads last year with an interchange w/Norfolk Southern along the Amtrak line in Paradise (Leaman). Pretty cool.
Yes, I actually filmed Norfolk Southern switching cars with them. Strasburg added a small yard also

Back in the 90's in New York, The PBS TV station, there was a show called Shining Time Station. There was a live action segment along with Thomas stories. The first "Mr. Conductor was Ringo Starr. Then he was replaced by George Carlin.

That's a great place go to! We rode the trains there quite a number of times here and there. When my son was much younger we would go to Cherry HIll location for the corn maze and other activities there, for my son to enjoy. When he was very young we rode the train pulled by Thomas The Tank Engine.

Jaw Tooth. Always a good video. Thanks for sharing. When I was a kid in the 50' and 60's on the farm, we had a Farmall (A), (H) and (M). Our great nephew rebuilt the (H) as a 4H project. The one you had there looked like either an (H) or (M). Take care
Very cool! I was hoping that someone would know something about that tractor. When I was little I always wanted to live on a farm. some of my cousins lived on farms and I would visit in the summer. Today I actually own one but I am not a farmer, I don't even have a tractor. I have the only farm in my area without a tractor. Lol. I lease out ground to the farmers. I love watching tractors go by my house.

@@bobcatforever3485 I recently added 8 acres to my farm. It just got in my name last week. I got a one acre parcel just down from my farm and I got 7 more acres the other direction. The 7 acres was advertised as 6 and when they surveyed it I got a free acre. At least 5 acres of that tract are farmable and it just got planted on Friday. It hadn't been farmed in about 4 years and the guys who do my land were happy to add a little more. I will put it in a video here soon.
@@JawTooth Thanks that sounds great. My dad's farm (in NE OH) was 120 acers with about 80 acers tillable. I now own 49 acers of that which my nephew still farms. I currently use it to do CZcams shooting videos. Not nearly as exciting as your train videos. Keep the good work.

Lovely video deapite the cloudy weather. Most heritage railways in the UK have stopped running their Thomas trains as they can no longer afford to pay the copyright fees.

It's that time of year again and even the ads for Illinois Railroad Museum featuring Thomas the Tank Engine on two weekends are appearing on You Tube. Far and away it is their 2 biggest weekends it also can be expensive especially regarding the licensing agreements for
operations and the souvenirs that are sold. Even in the gloom and rain steam does photograph better than diesels and hopefully all the youngsters and those young at heart had a good time
I want to catch Thomas in Pennsylvania again. Is it a real steam engine in Illinois? I might check into that one also. Thanks for watching Paul!
@@JawTooth yes the Thomas the Tank engine at Illinois Railway Museum is an actual steam locomotive and is transferred from location to its next appearance. Also since you are getting compensation from the YT Channel you may want to check with IRM regarding commercial shooting.. if the train leaves the property and goes out on their main line it can be shot from.the public Highway. Just so you don't have any unpleasant surprises

0:58 those are probably by far one of the rarest crossing signals in the US the Raco hydraulic gate Mech type signal they rear because of their unusual hydraulic system which is why they’re very impossible to maintain listen carefully and you can hear the hydraulic mechanism lifting the gates back up
Took the family there many times. The Stras RR owns a Thomas but only brings it out for licensed promotions. They store it in the engine house. Just look in the window and you'll see it 👍

I love the whistles on steam trains but that's it. Why are they running Thomas backwards or if you will, longhood forward? Thanks for your support Mark! I really appreciate it. Thomas is going back and forth on the Strasburg line but there is no way to turn the train around. So he pulls the train one way and then when he gets to the end of the line he has to push the train back. Thanks for watching and thanks for your support!

You can see before the crossing where they draft the fire dirty for photographers then after the crossing is burns mostly clear and clean like a proper draft.
