  • PLACES I VISITED IN PARIS: bakeries- stohrer, french bastards, boulangerie utopia, chambelland cafe, tout au tour du pain, galeries lafayette (specifically the food hall which is the opposite street to the main store.) Le bon Marche (again, the food hall opposite the main store), Musee dorsay, and I didnt actually end up logging the other days I went because I wanted to be present.

    Hello, I'm just back from Paris
    Among other places where I've been to, I want to mention Yan Couvrer cafè, Pierre Hermè cafè, Michalak cafè and Ritz Le comptoir. All very very high standard but the last two do better pastries than viennoiserie.
    I was amazed by the croissant by Couvrer, and especially Hermè where I had my most lightweight croissant ever, regular size though. RItz makes a uniquely shaped croissant but it is not my tea (the first time I went I didn't recognise the croissants at the counter).
    I'd reccommend also Maison Carton, Cyril Lignac and Boris Lumè.

    I never understood why the produce is often packaged when I watch UK vloggers. I'm just not a grab a package kind of shopper. The only place I shop where produce is packaged that way is Trader Joes and I find it annoying and I still do my best to look inside the packages to get the best produce.
    But I guess when I was growing up, my mom would go through the packages of berries to create her own container of the best berries. But I don't do that. I just lift the containers to look in them to choose the best container as already packaged.

      The most important thing is saying Bonjour going into any shop/boulangerie - it’s a formal greeting over there and seen as respectful. You can then ask if they speak English etc and when leaving say ‘bonne journée’ - which is good day. Trust me, these little phrases will help you immensely.

    • @solstise
      @solstise Před 2 lety +1

      For easy interactions, as stated above always start by saying "Bonjour", and you can (especially in bakeries and restaurants) just point at the things you want and say "Je voudrais prendre ceci, s'il vous plaît"(="I would like to take this, please") or "(Number of items -helps to show a finger's count too-) + (Item), s'il vous plaît" if you feel like pronouncing the names! A simple "Merci, au revoir" or "Bonne journée" when your transaction is finished will make you the perfect customer, don't fret too much about saying long phrases on the spot!

    Grace, hope this doesn't come off rude, but why can't you pronounce basic French words, as someone who has finished baking school? A lot of the methods, pastries, ingredients, etc you need to learn are French, so I'm wondering how it's possible? Great video as always :)

    Grace when you say the service wasn't great in a bakery/resteruant etc. please remember the people working there are probably on the minimum wage working long hours!! so please understand that they may be tired/ not in a great mood etc. so don't publicly slate them on the internet ! minimum wage jobs can be hard mentally and physically.

      @@Melissa-fz9tk no need for her to go back there or suggest others to go there's she just doesn't need to slate underpaid, overworked minimum wage workers for not being super friendly and upbeat probably on their 8 hour of being on their feet working for f all pay

      (Having worked in retail and hospitality) there is a difference between when a person seems tired/off and when they're just rude. There's a limit 😂 regardless of how tired I was in retail, I was never flat out rude to people. It is a job, you do need to be professional. It obviously goes both ways, the customer shouldn't be rude or unreasonable but imo you can say if someone didn't treat you nicely when you've paid for a service.

    • @maneskinnnnn7190
      @maneskinnnnn7190 Před 2 lety

      @@hanzib31 grace never said they were flat out rude though. tiredness is easily confused with unfriendlyness/rudeness, being on your feet for 13 hours a day for a minimum wage can lead to tiredness and inability to be super chirpy and friendly, so I don't think grace should be publicly shaming them and potentially cause them to lose their jobs. IMO its a bit of an upper class thing to complain about the ''service'' of underpaid and overworked workers being 'not great'. she should work a full time service job to earn barely enough to pay her bills and I guarantee she wouldn't be judging them so harshly and be a bit more empathetic
