    The Adidas Stan Smith tennis shoes are often compared to Common Projects and with good reason. The Stan Smiths were the original white leather tennis shoes. They made their debut in the early 60s under a different tennis players name, Robert Haillet. So i bought a pair to cut in half to see how they were built and how they compare to the premium counterparts.

    Please do the Stan Smith Recon. They’re the “premium” version of Stan Smith and claimed to have all leather build. I really doubt that they have better value though, since they’re like $120 which is 50% more than the standard ones.

      I have a pair and I can assure you they are a 100% more premium! It’s absolutely 100% leather, everything you see and touch is leather. It’s no veg tan of course but super soft and good quality shoe leather! Also the Box you get with them is like a Gucci Box or so, super high quality and you really just want to put them on your shelve!
      I’ve had them for about 2,5 years already! They didn’t wear out at all and if you clean them once every while you will have them for years! And ive not always cared about them while wearing too much! I would buy them again immediately especially when they are on sale like I got mine for 110€ (otherwise 180€)
      If you like the really classic Stan smith shape and don’t want to spend like 400 bucks on some Italian shoes, go for them they are great!

    I think I've had three pairs of these in my life, going back to the eighties -- always the ones with the green heel tabs. There are two solid classic adidas designs in tennis shoes. The Stan Smiths and the Rod Lavers. As much as I understand the white sneaker trend (they look great), the green accents on the Smiths and Lavers are the distinctive markers. Seeing this shoe without the green was weird. Anyhoo, I'm glad you carved these up. Always wondered what they were like inside. The way that smiths wear in and develop stretch and gray patina has always been charming for me. Love this shoe, love the channel. Keep doing what you're doing!

    I still have a 2 pairs of Stan Smiths from the 80's. The heels crack first then the side toe blows out if you wear them all the time. If you use them for tennis on asphalt, then the soles at the toes wear down long before the upper of the shoe breaks apart. They are a reasonably priced sneaker that is comfortable & like most things doesn't last very long. Thanks for chopping it in half.

    I can't speak to the more expensive shoes, because I've never worn them, but my last pair of Stans lasted three years of daily use, and I'm a 270 lb man who walks as a primary means of transportation. I also never had any problem with high and low spots in the heel, but that is where it eventually wore through into the cells inside. Over all though, for being a third to a fifth the price of the others, and the originator of the style, the Stan Smith is going to remain my go to sneaker I think.

      @@chawin007 that sounds good, I always found that Gore-Tex should never be put in footwear as when they enevitably get a tear in the lining, the boots/shoes get wet and take FOREVER to dry out. Your feet cook in the summer too. I would take the "Surround" technology with a pinch of salt too. I love Gore-Tex and have spent thousands on their groundbreaking new tech ie Shakedry but although better than the competitors, it doesn't live up to the advertising blurb and in my opinion should never be in footwear.

    I recently bought the vegan Stan Smith, fx5502. Everything looks nice and clean. However, when I checked the left shoe tag inside the tounge, it's made in Indonesia. While the right shoe is made in India. I contacted Adidas in my country (Philippines) and they said it's just tagging and inventory. They asked me about the quality, and I said the left and right shoe looks perfectly fine. Lastly, the left shoe has some minor dents and Adidas told me that it's just normal. I still have 30 days to decide if I will send back the shoe for a 100% refund.

      @@LSHD_ Stan Smiths are cheaply made, nowadays they're not even made out real leather, they use synthetic leather for the newer models and are overpriced for what you're getting. Reebok Club C, Nike Air Force 1, Van's Old Skool, Puma Suede give you more value for what you're paying in my opinion.
      The old Stan Smiths were great, today you're paying for brand name recognition to basically wear plastic shoes.

    • @LSHD_
      @LSHD_ Před rokem

      @@swordsaver that may be. But consumers aren’t interested in “value for money” in the terms you are describing. Their “value for money” is about the initial price point.
      Also Stan Smiths aren’t necessarily “over priced”. A pair here was purchased for under £45 with Adidas discount made it less. I highly doubt the others you’ve mentioned are “affordable quality”. Even then, there is the choice of consumers choice of design. Not all 35+ can rock a Nike Air Force, Vans, reeboks. Unless you’re of a particular demographic.

      @@LSHD_ You do realize that Stan Smiths aren't exactly cheap in every location? They can cost upwards to $130 dollars Canadian where I live. The ones I mentioned are actually cheaper and more affordable than the Stan Smiths by a large margin except for Air Force 1.
